Jack's love for birds started when he made his first birdfeeder about six years ago. He filled the feeder with seeds (种子), put it in his backyard and then 1 started coming. He got really 2 in birds as more came. Then he joined a local society. As he realized that more and more birds were dying very 3, he wanted to try his best to help them.

    Besides what he has done, he has his own group called Protecting Out Birds. He does 4about birds, run a website to teach people about birds and how to help them, and 5 boxes for birds. Not long ago, he found that the bluebirds were nesting（做窝）in the dead trees which were often cut down, 6 he began to make bluebird boxes for the birds in order to save them. Now he wants to use these boxes to 7 the dead trees. He hangs these boxes up in trees and takes 8 down every week to see if the birds are nesting in them. Cai Zongqi is a teacher from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Having lived in the United States for nearly 40 years, he has spent around 30 years sharing his understanding of Chinese literature (文学) 1 his students.

In 2007, his book How to Read Chinese Poetrycame out. 2 book includes 143 famous Chinese poems. Cai said he couldn't find good teaching materials to perfectly explain 3 Chinese poems meant. With the help of the book, American students can understand Chinese poetry 4 than before.

On a Friday night, a poor young violinist was playing his violin at the entrance of the subway station. He played such great music that people slowed down to l{#blank#}1{#/blank#} and put some money into his hat. 

The next day, the violinist came to the entrance again. He put down his hat as usual. Beside the hat was a piece of paper with some w{#blank#}2{#/blank#} on it. It said, "A George Sang has put an important thing into my hat by mistake. Welcome to claim (认领) it. " Soon the people were all attracted by the words and wondered w{#blank#}3{#/blank#} it could be. After a while a man rushed through the crowd, took the violinist's shoulders and said, "I knew you would certainly come here. " The violinist asked, "Did you l{#blank#}4{#/blank#} anything?" "Lottery (彩票). " The violinist took out a lottery ticket with Sang's name on it. Sang took it and danced happily. 

Sang was an office worker. He bought the lottery and w{#blank#}5{#/blank#} a prize of ＄500, 000. But when he gave ＄50 to the violinist for his wonderful music, the lottery ticket was thrown in, too. The violinist was a college student. That morning, he was going to fly to Vienna for high-education. However, when he f{#blank#}6{#/blank#} the ticket, he put off the flight and went back to the entrance. 

Later someone asked the violinist why he didn't take the lottery ticket to pay for his high education. He said, "Although I don't have much money, I live h{#blank#}7{#/blank#}. If I lose honesty, I won't be happy forever. "

 On Oct 11, robot history was made when Ai- Da, a human- like robot artist talked at a meeting in the UK. The topic for the meeting was"A Creative Future".

 Ai- Da paints using cameras in her eyes and robotic arms. She" thinks" and answers questions using AI algorithms (算法). She has painted the UK queen and had her work presented in galleries(画廊).

 Describing herself, Ai- Da told people at the meeting that"I am a robot and I depend on computer programs and algorithms" and" although not alive,I can still create art". Amusingly, at the meeting, Ai- Da" slept"— it shut down and had to be restarted. But her ability to answer questions in real time shows the huge developments of AI. These are developments that will continue.

 One person who seems interested in this is Elon Musk. He is planning on creating his own AI robots for his company, Tesla. Musk presented Tesla's human- like robot, named Optimus, at Tesla's AI Day on Sept 30. Tesla showed videos of their robot doing simple tasks like carrying boxes and watering plants, said CNN.

 With robots becoming more and more part of our daily lives, we may have to learn to live with them. But will people be happy to have these robotic friends or will they feel threatened(威胁的) by them? As Ai- Da said," Technology can be both a threat and an opportunity."

My daughter and I were driving from Los Angeles to Dallas.We were running low on gas（汽油）somewhere in New Mexico and hoped to meet a gas station soon.

But that didn't happen and we realized we were not going to make it to the next town.So my daughter made up a sign that said， "Low on gas.Can you help me？" and held it outside her window，hoping a driver in the next lane（车道）would notice it and stop.

There weren't too many cars passing by us at that time.It was a desolate stretch of the road and about3：30 p.m.on a weekday.A truck was driving along in the neighboring lane ahead of us.We caught up with it in the hope that the driver would notice the sign.An elderly gentleman was driving it and after an expression of confusion（困惑） on his face，he seemed to have noticed the sign and slowed down to pull over.We pulled over right behind him.

He was friendly and was willing to help us.At first he thought we didn't have enough money to buy gas，so he offered to buy us gas at the next town Roswell that was about 10 miles' away!

When we explained our trouble，he said he was a factory worker and was returning home from work.His factory was about 10 minutes away and they had gas there，so if we could give him 20 minutes，get a can of gas and fill up our car for us.We could not believe our good luck!

We were filled with thanks for the kindness of strangers such as this person when we waited for him to return.Sure enough，he was back with the can.He refused to take payment for the gas.Tears came down，as did our warm thanks.
