Hollywood is a shiny, bright place. It is the movie capital of the world. And it is also one of the tourist destinations (目的地) in America. In 1911 the small, peaceful village of Hollywood in California was voted to become part of Los Angeles (洛杉矶). Today, over 100 years later, this village has grown into the home of one of the most well-known industries in the world — the American film industry.

    With this growth came many well-known symbols. There is the famous Hollywood sign which stands above the hills of the town. The first sign was built in 1923. Then there is the Hollywood Hall of Fame (名人堂), where great actresses, actors and directors leave their footprints or handprints. Norma Talmadge was the first actress to do this in 1927. But the most famous of all is the Oscar Academy Awards. Every spring, a large number of actresses, actors and directors wait excitedly and nervously to find out if they have won an "Oscar". This year was the 85th Oscar Academy Awards. It was held on February 25 in Los Angeles. Ang Lee, a Chinese director, won the Award for Best Director again. It was the second time he had won the Award.

    Nowadays it is the home of films, and thousands of hopeful young actresses, actors, writers and directors still come to "the Dream Factory" every year. But not all Hollywood dreams have been happy ones — as one actress, who later died tragically (悲惨地), said, "Hollywood is a place where they will pay you 500 dollars for a kiss, and 50 cents for your soul (灵魂)."

    195 countries reached an agreement(协议) on Dec. 12, 2015 after two weeks' talks in Paris. They talked about climate(气候) change. It is the first time in history that most of the world's countries, rich or poor, promised to take action to deal with climate problems.

    The Paris Agreement(巴黎协定) sets up a goal of cutting down the earth temperature to less than 2℃. If the warming gets above 2℃， there will be serious problems on the earth like natural disasters.

The agreement also asks countries to volunteer to do things. For developed countries, they will do even more. They have a plan to offer over 100 billion dollars to help poorer countries to develop clean energy like water and wind power.

    However, the Paris Agreement won't solve earth warming by itself. The future also depends on how well each country will carry out their promises.

    My hobby is playing chess — one of the greatest games in the world. My mum taught me how to play when I was seven years old. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} But then, on my eighth birthday, I won for the first time. I nearly always beat her now.

    To learn the rules doesn't take long. One day is enough. But if you want to be good, you have to practice for years. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} — just a chess set and someone to play with. Chess sets can be very cheap, or quite expensive. Some people collect chess sets as a hobby, but I enjoy playing.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} We meet on Wednesday every week to practice. I am the best player in the club, and the captain（队长）of the school chess team. This year we won the All England Schools Championship (冠军赛).

    I'm saving up my money to buy a chess computer. They are very expensive, but also very good for practice. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} I'm sure I will be a world chess champion some day.

A. When you're with friends on bikes, it's much safer to ride behind, not next to each other. Where one road meets another, you should take even more care. Slow down and check both roads.

B. If you have an accident or fall off your bike, a helmet will protect your head. It must be the right size.

C. Many children have accidents when they listen to the music while riding. It's important to hear everyone else on the road.

D. Before you even set out, it is important to ensure that your bike is roadworthy（适于行驶的）and safe. Do all the parts work properly?Is there enough air in your tyres（轮胎）?

E. Cycling at night can be really dangerous. Go slower than you would in the daytime.

F. Red traffic lights aren't only for cars and buses. They're for you too if you're on a bike.

    Many parents fear to travel with kids. If you have the same fear, it's time to remove it. Here are some reasons why it's important to travel with kids.

    When I say that, I'm talking not only about the history lessons. I'm also talking about the math lying behind the questions to be answered, such as "How long will it take us to get there? What is the currency (货币) exchange rate to the US dollar? Children can also learn some geography facts."

    Who doesn't need a break from school? I know my kids do because we are strict during the school week: No TV, no computers, only homework and after-school activities. So, naturally, they want a break from the busy life. And, more than likely, there is plenty of fun waiting for you. Don't forget that you don't have to travel far for kids to have a good time!

    Robots were something in science novels and movies. Now there are many robots working in factories. In fact, most working robots are not like humans at all, some are more like strange machines. They do most of dirty or dangerous jobs over and over again. Robots never get bored or tired but humans will if they do the same jobs. Scientists believe there will be more new robots everywhere, but it may take hundreds of years. They will have different shapes. They will look like humans or animals. In India, scientists made robots that look like snakes. They can help find people inside fallen buildings.
