A young man and an old man were waiting for a bus. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} sat next to each other. “What's that in your bag?” asked the young man, pointing to a big bag beside the old man. “Gold. There was nothing but gold,” answered the old man. The young man could not believe his own ears and was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} great surprise. Then he began to think about {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to get the money. The old man was very tired and it seemed that he could hardly keep his eyes open. After a while the old man {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (lie) down on the chair and fell asleep.

    The young man took {#blank#}5{#/blank#} big bag gently and quietly. But when he was just about to run away, he found a corner of his fur coat was under the old man's body. Several times he tried to pull it out,{#blank#}6{#/blank#} in vain. At last he took off his coat,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (think) that the gold in the bag must cost far more than his fur coat.

    Worried but {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (delight), the young man ran out of the station as quickly as his legs could carry him, until he reached a place {#blank#}9{#/blank#} he thought the old man couldn't find him. He stopped and quickly opened the bag but he just found a great many of small stones in it. Then he ran back to the station {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (hurry) only to find that the old man was gone.

    I have even wondered if money buys happiness. It seems that money will allow me to buy the things {#blank#}1{#/blank#}make me happy. But one day I sat down and made a list of the things I wanted{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(do) in my life. I realized I'd never put much thought into it. I'd written down these things —like taking a photo on the mountain and staying at a hotel in Dubai, but I didn't really plan to do it, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (simple) because I didn't have the time.

    My life consisted {#blank#}4{#/blank#} heading to the office, running on the road, working some more …It didn't matter if my salary doubled; the life would stay {#blank#}5{#/blank#}same. Sure I'd probably drive a {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (nice) car, move into a bigger place, and have a bigger TV than my friends, but that wasn't helping me realize any of my goals. Six months after{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (create) that list, my belief has changed. I'd keep working on my list, for {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (experience) were much more important than any of the material items. It's not hard to create opportunity for {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (you). All it {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (take) is a little creative thinking.

    When Mr. Wang, a Chinese calligraphy(书法)master and painter, invited me to his studio, I got extremely{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (delight) . What a treat!

    His apartment doubles as his studio, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he creates calligraphy works and paintings as well. The living room has a long desk with a collection of{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (brush) of varying sizes, two big ink pots and a pair of paper weights.

    Mr. Wang showed his latest work, a scroll(卷轴)of the Great Wall at Badaling {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (wind) its way along the steep hills, which {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (recognize) as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations in 1987. The beauty of the seven-meter-long scroll painting was beyond {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (describe).

    He told me someone had offered a large amount of money for the painting, but he refused {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(part) with it as he wanted to donate to the National Museum.

After that, Mr. Wang invited me to practice calligraphy, and it was the first time that I had {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(true) experienced the beauty of the line. It was then{#blank#}9{#/blank#} I noticed Mr. Wang appeared to have a healthy body. I wondered if practicing calligraphy kept him so fit. Whether that is true, one thing is certain; as Mr. Wang put{#blank#}10{#/blank#}, "Only do one thing and do it well—that's the secret to success"
