    Many cities around the world today are heavily polluted. Products (产品) arc not produced in a "green" way and people haven't realized the importance of buying and using environmentally-friendly products. These lead to the pollution problem. One result is that millions of tons of waste like glass, paper and plastics is produced (生产). The waste problem is difficult to deal with.
    However, today, more and more people are choosing “green” and expecting that the products they buy should be safe for the environment. Before they buy a product, they ask questions like these: “Will this soap be bad for the environment”"Can this metal container be reused or can it only be used once?”
    Over 20,000 people took part in a web survey (调查) on buying environmentally-friendly products. Among them, 8129 people say that they now consider the environmental safety of a product before they buy it. That is to say, companies must change the way they make and sell their products to make sure that the products are “green”.
    A few years ago, it was impossible to find green products in supermarkets, but now there are hundreds. Some supermarket products carry labels to show that they are green. Some companies have made the clean and safe products their main selling point in advertisements.
The growing need for a safer and cleaner environment is making companies rethink how they do business. The public will no longer accept the old idea of “buy it, use it, throw it away, and forget it”. As a result, the companies have to take action.

It seems to be strange to you there is a blind spot(点) on the eyes. Here is an interesting experiment that can make something disappear, when one eye is open.
　Make a card about the size of a postcard and write two English letters L and R on it, L on the left and R on the right. First, hold the card about 80 cm away and you see both the letters. Then close your right eye and look at the letter R only with your left eye. And now, as you move the card slowly towards you, you'll find the letter L disappearing. But if you move the card nearer to your face, the letter will be seen again. Now do the same experiment with your left eye closed, you'll find the letter R disappearing.
Why does the letter disappear? It is because there is a blind spot on the eye. When the image of the letter falls on the blind spot, it won't be seen. That is why either of the letters disappears.

    Have you ever rubbed your hands together when they get cold? Why do we do that? We do that for friction. Friction happens when two things that aren't very smooth (光滑的) rub together to make heat energy. The faster you rub two things together, the more friction you can make. Let' s discover friction!

Put rubbish in your wheelie bin（有轮大垃圾筒）.

You must put your rubbish in your wheelie bin to keep your environment clean. Don't pile your rubbish up（堆放） in your house or garden-use a wheelie bin or one of our larger bins.

Our competition winners

As part of our "Don't Drop It; Stop It!" campaign, community groups from the north, south, east and west of the city-500 volunteers-entered our competition to clean up their area. The goal was to make the city cleaner for those who live, work, shop or play there.

The four winners were: High Trees Parent Group, South Bradford Community Project, The Bridge Community Association and Forest Youth Group.
