Jellyfish and Crocodiles（水母和鳄鱼）

Hi, my name's Ben. My family, that's Mum, Dad and me, live in Broome in Western Australia. Western Australia is about 80 times larger than Italy, but only 1.5 million people live there. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} It has a population of about 12,000. It's right on the coast and is known for its famous Cable Beach, which is 20km long.

    We live in the town in a house with a large garden. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} We drive to Cable Beach and look for a quiet place to swim or to fish. We don't go swimming from October to March because there may be box jellyfish in the water. The box jellyfish is one of the most dangerous jellyfish. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} If you are attacked by one, the best thing to do is to pour vinegar（醋）over the area of your body where you are hurt. That's why we always take a bottle of vinegar with us.

     {#blank#}4{#/blank#} A year ago I went camping in the bush with my friend Bill and his dad. We wanted to do some fishing and set up camp about 20 metres from a river. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Bill's father told us to get up and we quickly got out of the tent and ran to the car, which was only 10 metres away.

    Bill's dad started the car and turned on the head. In the light, we could see a big crocodile pulling the tent into the river!

This {#blank#}1{#/blank#} my good friend. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} English girl(女孩）. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} name is Emma. She is thirteen {#blank#}5{#/blank#} old.     Confidence is very important in daily life. It is {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(use) to develop a healthy attitude(态度). If people are more confident, they are {#blank#}2{#/blank#} happier. And they can have more chances to be {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (success). Here are some suggestions to be more confident.

    ★ Speak loud. When you are not confident, you can't do well in {#blank#}4{#/blank#} you want to do. Try to speak loud enough so that people can hear you {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (clear). The high voice can help you become more confident.

    ★ Play sports. Physical exercise makes you tired but strong. A strong body helps you be full {#blank#}6{#/blank#} confidence.

    ★ Encourage yourself. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (write) down a list of things you did during the day to see how many things you have done well. Give yourself praise(表扬) for the good things you have done.

    ★ Pick up a hobby. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} you like singing, sing as much as you {#blank#}9{#/blank#}. In some ways, a hobby can make you excellent. And it will make you {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (happy) and confident.

    Let me {#blank#}1{#/blank#} you something about my little dog, Snoopy(史努比). Snoopy is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} American dog. He looks very cute. He has two small eyes（眼睛）, two big ears(耳朵), four short {#blank#}3{#/blank#} and a small tail（尾巴）. Now he can play many games. If I say “Go to sleep!” he goes to his bed {#blank#}4{#/blank#} lies（躺）down. If I say “{#blank#}5{#/blank#} basketball!” he goes to catch a ball and puts it into a basket. If I say “Please dance {#blank#}6{#/blank#} us!” then he dances to the music. “Can he {#blank#}7{#/blank#} a song(歌曲)?” a friend asks me. “Sure, he can, but he doesn't sing {#blank#}8{#/blank#} English or Chinese. When he sings, nobody can understand him.”

    Mr Jenkins has several big shops in the city. He's very rich but he does his best{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(pay) the persons who work in his shops less. And they all hate him.

    Several months ago a young woman borrowed thirty thousand dollars from him. But she couldn't return the money to him in time. He went to her and made her {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(give) her ring to him which cost more than fifty thousand dollars. He put it into his wallet and went home happily. But when he got to the bus stop, the bus{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(leave). He hurried to get on and left his wallet outside. He didn't find it until he got home. He hurried{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(make) promise, “If someone finds my wallet and returns it to me, I{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(give) half the money to him.”

    An old woman who{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(wait) for another bus that day found the wallet. She sent it back to Mr Jenkins. But he changed his mind.

    “There are two rings in my wallet,” said Mr Jenkins, “

    I won't give half the money in my wallet to you until you return the other ring to me.”

    “I {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(see) only a ring in the wallet,” the old woman said and took the man to a judge and told him what {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(happen) to them. The judge said to Mr Jenkins, “I'm sure you have lost a wallet in which there are two rings and some money. But there is only one ring in this wallet. I{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(not think) it's yours. Wait for some days. Perhaps someone will be able to return your wallet to you.”

    Then the judge turned to the old woman and said, “Take the wallet home. If the loser doesn't go to get it back in three days, it{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(belong) to you.”
