Bruno was a boy of eight. His father worked in a cinema and his mother worked in a shop. He lived not far from his school. He always walked there and walked home. On his way to school, he had to pass a playground. It was very wet after it rained. One day, when he got home, his clothes were all wet. His mother became angry and said, “Don't play in the water on your way home from school!”

    On the next day, Bruno came home with wet and dirty clothes. His mother became even angrier. “I'll tell your father if you come back wet again,” said his mother. “He'll punish(惩罚) you, you know.”

    The third day the little boy was dry when he came home.

    “You're a good boy today”, his mother said happily. “You didn't play in the water.”

    “No,”the boy said unhappily. “There were too many older boys in the water when I got there this afternoon. There wasn't any room for me at all!”

    Tom was a fat boy when he was ten. He liked watching TV very much. He watched TV at least 5 hours every day. Wherever(无论哪里) he went, he would be late.

    One day, he found a pair of special glasses in his post-box(邮箱). He also found a message saying, “With these you can see time.”

    The boy decided to have a try. He put the glasses on, looked at his brother, a tall and thin boy, and saw a big box of flowers on top of his head. And it wasn't just his brother. When he looked at his parents, he also saw the flowers. The three boxes were very large and the flowers were very beautiful. Then, he looked at himself from the mirror. He saw the flowers, too. But his flowers went to the mouth of the television. Its mouth was big. His flowers became fewer and fewer.

    At last, he learned that watching TV was a waste of time. He could learn nothing from it. He decided he would never again let the television eat his time.

    The Whites are French. Now they are in Nanjing. This is their first visit to China. They are going to stay in China for two weeks. They want to visit some big cities and villages. They want to learn some Chinese.

    Mr. White is a doctor. Mrs. White is a teacher. She is visiting a middle school near Nanjing. Their son, Jim, is a middle school student. He meets some Chinese students, and he likes to speak French with them.

    They take a lot of photos in China. When they are back in France, they are going to show the photos to Mrs White's students. They want the students in France to know more about China.

One evening this May, on my way home my old car broke down (出故障). It was 25 miles from my home. I wanted to get a ride (搭便车), but there was no car. It was also hard to take a taxi. I decided to take a bus home. I went to a bus stop nearby.

After a while, a bus came, but it did not go to my town. The bus driver was a young woman. She was kind and she told me which bus I should take. I waited there for about thirty minutes, but no bus came. At last a car came to me and a woman came out of the car. She was just the bus driver.

"When I reached the bus station, I got to know that the bus to your town couldn't come, so I returned here. I just can't leave you here," she said. "Get in my car and I will take you back to your home." "It is a long way." I said. "Come on, sir," she said. "Let's go."

On the way she told me a story. A few days ago, there wasn't gas (汽油) in her car. An old man drove her up to a gas station and then back to her car.

When we got to my home, I wanted to give her some money to thank her, but she didn't accept it. "I only want to help others and do something nice for somebody. Pass it along," she said.

I had an accident with my plane in the Desert of Sahara (撒哈拉沙漠) 6 years ago. One morning, I heard a 1 . It said, "Could you please draw me a sheep?"

I looked 2  all around me and saw a very very small person. "Who are you?" I asked. However, he seemed not to 3  my question. 

"Could you please draw me a sheep?" he asked again. I was not good at drawing,4  I didn't want to say no. Then I drew a picture for him—a picture of a boa constrictor (大蟒蛇) eating a(n)5 . 

"No! I don't want an elephant inside a boa constrictor. It is very 6  and I'm afraid of it! I need a sheep!"

Can you 7  how surprised (惊讶的) I was at his words? Because people around me thought the 8  was a hat when I first drew it at 6! So I drew the 9  picture—a sheep. He looked at it carefully and said, "No. This sheep doesn't 10  so healthy. Please draw me another one."

So I drew the third picture. "This is not what I wanted 11 . This is a goat (山羊), not a sheep."

Then I did the fourth drawing. "This one is too 12 . I want a younger sheep. I hope it can live for long."
