Once there was a parrot on sale in a pet store. It was a beautiful red and blue bird.  It sat on a perch in the middle of the store so that everyone could see it when they came in. The owner was very proud of it and asked a high price for it.

    One day a man went into the store. "That's a beautiful bird," he said to the pet store owner. "But why is it so expensive? Is it an unusual bird?"

    "No, it's not very unusual. It's expensive because it can talk," the pet store owner said.

    "I see. How can I make it talk?" the man asked.

    The pet store owner asked him, "Do you see those strings tied to each of the bird's legs?"

    "Yes," the man answered.

    "Well, you pull those strings," the pet store owner told him."That will make the parrot talk."

    The man asked, "Do you mind if I try?"

    "Not at all," the pet store owner said.

    The man walked up to the parrot and pulled the string on its left leg. The parrot said, "Good morning."

    The man pulled the string on the parrot's right leg. This time the parrot said, "How are you today?"

    "That's not very interesting," said the man."Any parrot could do that." Then he laughed, "But what would happen if I pulled both strings at the same time?"

    "I'll fall off my perch, you fool!"the parrot said.

My name is Jason.Last Saturday,I volunteered to clean up the park nearby with my friends.As I was cleaning around a bush(灌木),I found a yellow 1 in it.I picked up the wallet and opened it.There were twenty dollars in it.

I was still holding the wallet in one hand and the 2 in the other hand when a friend called me for help.Without 3 , I dropped(丢下)the wallet and put the money into my pocket(口袋).I kept on cleaning with my friends 4 my heart was no longer in work. I kept wondering what to do with the money.After the cleaning,one of my friends suggested that we eat ice-creams.I 5 everyone an ice-cream.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}, one day, things changed a lot. I listened to my Chinese teacher Ms. Song very carefully {#blank#}4{#/blank#} usual. Suddenly, she asked the whole class {#blank#}5{#/blank#} question which was quite easy. Ms. Song looked around, and then her eyes were on me. She asked me {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(answer) it. I stood up slowly and was {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(able) to say a word. "Come on! Believe in {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(you). You are the best!" said Ms. Song. I looked at Ms. Song in the eyes, and I could feel her encouragements. I {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(take) courage(勇气) from it and answered the question correctly. Ms. Song gave me a big smile and so did my {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(classmate). From then on, I started to answer the teachers' questions in class. 

Since then, whenever I meet challenges, I always say to myself, "You're the best. "

My grandmother left me almost 18 years ago but I still miss her every day. She was such an important part of my life. My mum, dad, brothers and I lived in her old house for most of my childhood. When I close my eyes and open my heart. I can still see her in her flower print, cotton dress. I can hear her high voice saying "hello" as I opened the door after school, while her arms opened to give me a big hug and a kiss. I can even remember the smell of hers. When she hugged me, I could feel the love and joy coming from her heart. 

I thought I knew everything about my grandma, but amazingly, I am still learning more about her even today. Just yesterday an old family friend stopped to talk to me at the post office. She told me what happened once she visited my grandma when I was still a little boy. They were sitting around the dining room table talking and our friend noticed the lovely earrings my grandma was wearing. She told my grandma how much she liked them and asked if my grandma could leave them to her in her will(遗嘱). Without a second thought, my sweet grandma took them off and gave them to her. 

I decided then that I want to regard my grandma as my role model. Be nice and care more about people and less about things. 

Young Jim was glad when the ship finally arrived. He said 1 to his shipmates, carrying a heavy bag on his shoulder.

With him was Ben. Jim 2 the old sailor (水手) on Treasure Island—he was a nice person, but had become a bit strange after being on the desert island for three 3 !

"What are you going to do now, Ben? " he asked.

"A thousand pounds worth of treasure is 4 for me! I will live a happy life!" He waved goodbye as he 5 .

The minute Jim got home, his mother rushed outside. "Oh, my darling boy! It's so good to see you —I thought you had been lost at sea!" she cried 6 .

More than 8 weeks later, while Jim was helping his mom with dinner, Ben appeared in front of him.

"Bad luck, Jim! The 9 weighed me down, and there were so many things to spend it on. In fifteen days, I had lost every coin!" Ben said.

This was a sad turn of events! Jim asked Ben if he had any family he could 10 with.

He sighed. "I've been on that island for years, so I've forgotten so many things. I wouldn't know where to find them! I couldn't 11 tell you when my birthday might be!"

Jim felt sorry for him! He went into the kitchen and came out with a 12 .
