When I was young, I went to a boarding（寄宿）school in Edinburgh. It was far from home because I1on an island in the north of Scotland.

    It was a music school, and I studied the violin. At the end of the term, we all packed our bags and our 2  to go home for the holidays. Most kids went by train or bus. Some were 3  by their parents. But I had to go home by ferry—14 hours overnight on the open sea.

    One summer, after packing my suitcase and violin, I said4to my friends. I took the train to the ferry terminal（渡船码头）and then got on the ferry. But when the ferry started moving, I realized a(n)5thing! I left my violin on the train!

    Oh no! What should I do? What would my dad say? He'd be really6! I got so scared（害怕）that I didn't sleep all night.

    The next morning, I7the ferry to meet my dad. After I told him everything, he laughed. I looked at him and couldn't believe it.8was he laughing?

    I always had a label（标签）in my violin case with my address and a telephone number. My dad told me, "A cleaner found your violin on the train and took it to the police. They  9 me and put it on a plane. It arrived an hour ago." 10, my violin was safe.  I was so happy!

    Once a little boy found a caterpillar（蝴蝶幼虫）.One day the caterpillar climbed up a stick and started to create a cocoon（茧）. His mother told him the caterpillar was going to go through a(n) 1 and become a butterfly.

    The little boy watched every day, waiting for the coming out of the butterfly. One day it happened, a small hole 2 in the cocoon and the butterfly started to struggle（挣扎）to come out. At first the boy was 3, but soon he became worried. The butterfly was struggling so hard. But it looked like it was making no 4. Hoping to see it out, the boy decided to help. He cut the cocoon with scissors to make the hole 5 and the butterfly quickly flew out!

    As you go through school life, keep in mind that struggling is an important part of any experience for growth. It is the struggle that cause us to develop our ability to fly.

    In a1, a couple had to move out of their big house because of bankruptcy(破产). The husband worked day and night but with no care of2, So she thought," He doesn't love me any more, he just thinks about his work."

One day, she wanted to take a shower, but her husband3her at the door." Let me take it first OK?" "4let me first?" she asked." I'm5, dear You take it later, OK? "She was very sad.

    On a rainy day, she found nothing to do and6 his computer.7a few minutes, her eyes were full of tears… it was his8:

"Today, I was quite sad, she asked me9I was always taking the shower first, and I said I was tired. She was unhappy. I wasn't as10as before! We moved to the small house and it was very cold. But I11that if one person took the shower first, the bathroom could get a12warmer. So I13 rushed to the bathroom first. When she took the shower, the bathroom14get warmer, at least 1℃ or 2℃. Now I can't give her more. but at least I can give151℃ love."

Did you know that the Beijing Winter Olympic Village had a rooftop (屋顶) farm? It covered 4,620 square meters. To relax, athletes and coaches could try growing vegetables there.

It shows just how much Chinese people {#blank#}1{#/blank#} growing vegetables. China has a lot of available land for planting things. For {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, Chinese people made a living through farming. The Book of Songs《诗经》, written 2,500 years ago, records many {#blank#}3{#/blank#} of vegetables.

Nowadays, even though some Chinese people no longer have a lot of land, they still grow vegetables {#blank#}4{#/blank#} they can. Xue Ling, 35, is one of them. Since 2010, she has been planting vegetables on the balcony (阳台) of {#blank#}5{#/blank#} apartment in Jinan, Shandong province. "It's the only way to keep my food, at least the vegetables, clean and {#blank#}6{#/blank#}," she said. Caroline Ma from Hong Kong grows vegetables {#blank#}7{#/blank#} a hobby. In 2020, Ma started farming on her rooftop and {#blank#}8{#/blank#} planting seeds that she collected during her travels. For Ma, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} is a meditative (冥想的) experience. "I am in my own little world and I can forget about my problems," she said.

It seems that planting vegetables brings {#blank#}10{#/blank#} than just food for Chinese people.

Zhou Jinrui and Harry are two middle school students in Hangzhou. They didn't have much money with them. But they have dreamed to visit Beijing for a long time. So they went to Beijing from Hangzhou by bike last summer holiday. They spent nearly one month on the bike travelling. The journey（旅程）was hard, but they felt happy. 

They went through many cities and villages during the travelling. They ate the food they took or had cheap meals. When they were tired at night, they took out their map to find small and cheap hotels or the farmers' houses to stay in. They also took some medicine with them. When they had a cold, they didn't need to go to hospital. When it was rainy, they stopped for a while and went on with their travelling. 

At the end of August, they got to Beijing successfully. They visited a lot of places of interest in Beijing, such as the Great Wall, the Summer Palace and Tian'anmen Square. 

They had a fun time in Beijing for ten days. At last, they had to return to Hangzhou by train because the new term began in September.
