I noticed an old couple as they walked into the second-hand store. Just before that I had dropped off a bag of clothes and a few other things I no longer needed.

    The couple moved 1 around me in search of things they had on a list.

    “Can I help you 2 something?” I asked curiously.

    They stopped, looked at me and said, “We're looking for 3 things that look new.”

    “Every year in the past, we tried to 4 the year with new things. It was a goal (目标) to have new things around us so that we had a new 5, new hopes and dreams for the new year,” said the old man. “But nowadays we also believe that even though something is old, it 6 be new to someone who has never seen it before.”

    “So, at the end of each year we search for things that are 7 to no one but new to us,” the old woman added.

    “What have you found so far?” I asked.

    The man showed two things: a small frame made of sticks and one baby boot.

    “We still need one more thing,” he said.

    “What did you find?” the old man shouted, too.

    The old woman walked slowly towards us 9 something in her hand. “Look! It's a flower vase. Well, it looks 10, but it's new to us!”

    They then headed for the checkout without saying another word.

    Everything that you see for the first time is new.

    The first day of university our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a 1_ hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled（有皱纹的）, little old lady with a smile. She 2_ a minute and said, “Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?” I laughed and responded, “Of course you may!” and she gave me a big one.

    We became immediate friends. Every day for the next three months, we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I always loved listening to this ‘time machine'3 she shared her wisdom and experience with me. Over the course of this year Rose became a campus role model and she 4_ made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she loved the attention from the other students.

    At the end of the term we invited Rose to speak at our football club. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the platform. As she began to deliver he prepared speech, she dropped her cards on the floor. A little upset she simply said, “I'm sorry I'm so nervous. I 5 beer for Lent（大裔节）and this wine is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order …” As we laughed, she cleared her throat and began, “We do not stop playing because we are old; wo grow old because we stop playing.     One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. However, these words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.

    Telling the truth is a very good habit. Here is a story of a man who did lots of bad things, but his promise to tell the truth 1 him.

    One morning the man came to the prophet(先知) Muhammad and said, "Oh prophet of Allah, I have many bad 2. Which one should I 3 first?"

    The prophet said," 4 telling lies first and always tell the truth." The man promised to do so.

    He went home and thought about the prophet's 5all day. But at night he planned to go out to steal something. Before leaving home, he said to 6, "If tomorrow the prophet asks me7 I have been, shall I say that I went out to steal? No, I can't say that. But 8 can I tell a lie. If I tell the truth, everyone will call me a thief." So the man decided 9 that night.

    Next day, when the man was about to drink10, he thought, "What shall I say to the prophet 11he asks me what I did during the day? I 12 not tell a lie, and if I tell the truth, people will hate me because a Muslim is not allowed to drink wine." So he gave up the idea of drinking wine. 13, whenever the man thought of doing something bad, he 14  remembered his promise to tell the truth. Step by step, he didn't do anything 15. He became a good Muslim and a very good person.

    Lucy likes shopping ,but she is careless (粗心的). She often leaves some of 1 things in shops.

    One day, Lucy's mother wants to make 2 for supper. "What kind of dumplings do you want to eat, Lucy? What about carrots or cabbages?" she asks.
