    Mr. White works in an office. He liked reading in bed when he was at school. It was bad for his eyes and now he is near-sighted. But he wouldn't want anybody else to know about it and he never wears a pair of glasses. It often brings him some trouble.

    One winter morning he was sent to a village school on business. He got off a bus at a stop in a small town. Then he had to walk there. The road to the village wasn't smooth. There were stones here and there. He fell over several times and it made his clothes very dirty. At last he got to the village. Suddenly it began to blow strongly and it got much colder. His hat was blown off while he was looking for the school. He had to run after it but he couldn't catch it. He was wondering why his hat ran into a house as if it had legs. And then he ran into the house, too.

    A big woman appeared and stopped him by shouting angrily, "What are you running after my hen for?"

    Once there was an apple tree which a little boy always played around. When the little boy grew up, he no longer played around the tree.

    One day the tree said, “Come and play with me.” The boy answered, “I need money.” “Sorry, you can sell the apples for some money.” The boy did that and left happily.

    After a few years, the boy came back. The tree said, “Come and play with me.” The boy said, “I don't have time. I need a house.” “You can cut off my branches (树枝) and trunk (树干) for a house,” answered the tree. The boy did so.

    Twenty years later, the boy came back again. “My boy, the only thing left is my dying roots (根),” said the tree. “I don't need much now, just a place to rest. I am too tired,” answered the boy. The tree then smiled with tears.

    This is a story of everyone. The tree is our parent. No matter what we need, parents will always be there and give everything they have to make us happy.

    Jackson was driving back home along a road one evening. He just lost his job. It was winter and it was very cold, just like his feelings.

    An old lady with her car was standing on one side of the road. The lady looked very worried. She needed help. No one stopped to help her. Jackson stopped in front of her and got out of his car. Even when he put a smile on his face, the old lady still looked worried. Was he going to hurt her? He didn't look safe, and he looked poor and hungry.

    Jackson knew how she felt. He said." I'm here to help you, madam. Why don't you wait in my car? By the way, my name is Jackson."

    The lady thought for a while and then went into his car. There was something wrong with her car. Jackson went under her car to repair it. After a long time, he finished it. He got dirty and his hands hurt. Then the lady told him that her name was Annie. She asked Jackson how much she should pay for his help.

    Jackson never thought about getting money. This was not a job to him. This was helping someone in need. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she should give that person help.

    There is a new cartoon movie called Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The story happens in a small American town. People there don't have enough food. They only have fish to eat. Luckily, an inventor comes to help people. Who is he? Read what he says: "Hi！I'm Flint. I'm an inventor. I invented a new machine to make food for our town. It changes water into food. It can make meatballs and hamburgers rain down. It can make whatever people want!"

    Flint has a monkey friend. He is very helpful. Read his self－introduction: "Hi, my name is Steve. I'm a monkey. I can talk with an animal translator. Flint invented it. I'm Flint's best friend. When he needs me, I'm a good helper. "

    What's more interesting is that there is a special weather reporter. She tells people when and where the food will fall down. Read what she says: "Hi, my name is Sam. I am a weather reporter. People love Flint's invention. They have a lot to eat. But it's raining bigger and bigger food pieces. The food can smash(砸烂) houses! Flint has to stop it."

    A young boy was playing with a ball in the street. He threw(扔)it too hard and it broke(打破)the window of a house and fell(掉)inside. A woman came to the window and shouted(大喊) at the boy. The boy was afraid and ran away. But he still wanted his ball back. A few minutes(分钟)later. The boy came back and knocked(敲)at the door and said, "My father is going to come and repair(修理)your window soon."

    After a while, a man came to the door with tools(工具)in his hand, so the woman let the boy take his ball away.

    When the man finish repairing the window, he said to the woman, "Please pay ten dollars."

    "But aren't you the father of the boy?" the woman asked, looking surprised(惊奇). "No," he answered, looking more surprised, "Aren't you his mother?"
