When I was 18,my family left China. And a year later, we made our way to New York. Unluckily, my father (失败)to find a job, so I had to help support my family. I looked through the want ads every morning and later had an (面试)for a job at Waterbury Hospital Health Centre. There I was told my work would (包括)sweeping floors. I smiled and remembered my father's advice.
"Take pride in what you do,”my lather said, "whether you're a (老板)or are sweeping floors.”
So even if my job was the lowest, I was (激动的)to do it. Each morning, I (想象)all the patients not being able to eat if I wasn't there to clean the plates and bowls. Once (早饭)was made, I cleaned toilets, swept floors and did some other dirty work. I wanted people to say "That young man sure does a nice job", (尽管)I was dead tired.
Through (十一)jobs I've ever held, my father's (明智的)words have stayed with me. I've swept floors, and I've been the manager. I think Dad would be proud.
Last year, I did not like my English class. Every class was like a bad dream. The teacher spoke very quickly and I couldn't understand her most of the time. I was afraid to ask questions because I didn't know how to read the words correctly. I just hid behind my textbook and never said anything in class.
Then one day I watched an English movie—Toy Story. I fell in love with this exciting and funny movie. So I began to watch other English movies, too. Although(尽管) I understood I could get the meaning by listening for just the key words. I found out that listening to something interesting is the secret to the language learning. I also learned some useful sentences like "It's a piece of cake"or "It serves you right. I did not understand these at first. But because I wanted to understand the story, I looked them up in a dictionary(字典).
Now I really enjoy my English class. Do you want to learn English like this?
