Classical Chinese gardens are purposely designed so that no matter where you stand, you can never see the whole thing at once. The mystery and the discovery have helped the classical gardens of China, especially those in Suzhou, remain popular attractions after all these years. 

Put simply, the aim of a classical Chinese garden is to deepen one's admiration of nature. Besides just relaxing in nature, the classical Chinese gardens have another purpose—to inspire artistic expression like poetry, literature or painting. Nearly all Chinese gardens feature the things in the list below. 

Water

Water is a necessary thing that no Chinese garden can go without. The water in a garden typically symbolizes a lake or even the ocean. Water can even symbolize communication, movement and dreams. 

Rocks

Large rocks typically symbolize mountains. Many of the rocks in the Suzhou gardens come from Lake Tai, having been shaped by the flow of water over thousands of years. Smaller rocks are often on show in the fancy halls at a garden's entrance. This shows the appreciation the garden owners had of these rocks. 

Plants

You can't have a garden without plants. Different plants and flowers are used for either symbolic or aesthetic (美学的) purpose—or both. Bamboo, for example, represents strength. Flowers, meanwhile, add color to a garden, with each carrying a symbolic meaning of its own. 

Gates & Windows

Gates of different shapes divide different parts of a garden. The most common type of gate, the moon gate, is simply a circle. Windows are placed throughout the garden to allow the passage of light. You can also catch a glimpse of interesting trees or rocks on the other side from the window. 

Pavilions (亭)

In Chinese gardens, pavilions are usually placed in some of the best viewing places. Sometimes a pavilion is placed where one can see the reflection (倒影) of the moon at night, or in the best place to listen to the sound of rain on the leaves above. In the past, pavilions were also used as places for garden owners to reflect, paint and write poems. 

How much do you know about "Taobao"? Do you often buy goods（商品） online? During every big festival hundreds of millions of dollars is spent online. "Who needs a shopping mall if you have Taobao? I am a Taobaoer," says Wang Fang, 28, a writer in Beijing. Taobao, China's largest online shopping site（地点）, has become an important part of Wang Fang's life. She spends half of her salary （工资） on Taobao. A growing number of Chinese Internet users like Wang have found the pleasure of online shopping. Most online shoppers are students and young workers. People can find almost everything they need online, from clothes to books, from candy to DVD players. And clothing and household（家用的） things are the most popular goods bought online. 

The biggest attraction（吸引力） for buyers is the low prices of online goods. Buyers can also check the information easily. They can compare the prices of the same kind of goods from different sellers, and choose the cheapest one. When someone asks her about the safety（安全） of online shopping, Wang Fang said, It's very safe and easy. If you can't get the goods from the sellers or are not satisfied（满意的） with them, the shop owners will not get the money. You can also get a refund（退款） if you give the goods back.

②For example, how about "yarn bombing"? What's that? Maybe you have heard of knitting(编织) to make sweaters, scarves, gloves and other things. With yarn bombing, people knit different kinds of things, like sweaters for trees or hats for the stones in the park. It's the latest form of artwork. In some cities, people are even paying knitters to decorate public places with their art. Some call it "Knitting Graffiti(涂鸦), " but unlike other forms of graffiti, it is easy to take away, and it doesn't destroy anything. 

③Do you like those TV shows in which the police use science to solve crimes? If you do, you can take up "forensic science" as a hobby. That's the science used to find crimes. You can get a set of at-home fingerprint tools and find out who is taking cookies from the cookie box or perhaps who is reading your secret diary. 

④Finally, here's a hobby for those who want to have fun and make a little money. It's called "upcycling". You've heard of recycling —you put things like glass, paper and plastic in special boxes so the materials can be used again. Upcyclers take old things and make them into new things. Sometimes they can even sell the things they make. For example, you can take an old book bag, clean it up and decorate it. It will look like a cool new bag. There's even a magazine called Upcycle that is full of ideas. All you need for this is an old thing and a good imagination. 

⑤So look around for a new and interesting hobby. Then when someone asks you the question "What's your hobby?" you can give them an answer that they've never heard before. 

 You don't need money for this vending machine(自动售货机), and it also won't give you any food like chocolates, chips or cola. What you' ll get from the vending machine is a book. First graders at A. M. Kulp Primary School were the first to try out the new machine. It was installed(安装) at the school during the third week of February 2024.

 Alyssa Nedorezov— the librarian, the person who works in the library, has been dreaming of this for about a year. She always wants to help students read. She says when students read both in and out school, it will greatly help with the students' reading and make it easier for them to keep a reading habit. Students like getting anything from a vending machine. Alyssa Nedorezov thinks it is fun for kids to get books there. So they will be really interested in reading and fall in love with it.

 Here's how it works. When students do something good, their teachers give them something called" cat paw". Then they can change their cat paws into the vending machine tokens(代币). The token works in the vending machine, and students can choose any book to take home to read for some time or keep forever.
