A Duckling is very sad because he is the ugliest among his brothers and sisters. To his{#blank#}1{#/blank#}when he grows up, he finds{#blank#}2{#/blank#}a handsome young swan! The Ugly Duckling is one of the most popular fairy tales in the world {#blank#}3{#/blank#}by Danish writer Hans Christian Anderson.

    In fact, Andersen was an ugly duckling. In 1805, he was born in a poor family in Denmark.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} a young boy, Andersen was tall, ugly and had a very big nose. His friend always made fun of his big nose. Later, because of his father's{#blank#}5{#/blank#} little Andersen had to make a {#blank#}6{#/blank#}by himself. He once  {#blank#}7{#/blank#}as a tailor and make money in a theater.

    The {#blank#}8{#/blank#}in life help him create his fairy tales. In the Little Mermaid, he talks about the sacrifice(牺牲) , in Emperor's New Clothes, he makes jokes of  the authority(当权者). Today, Anderson is famous around the world. His fairy tales have been{#blank#}9{#/blank#}into over 100 languages. The Hans Christian Anderson Award(奖) is named after him. It is the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}award to give a writer of children's books.

    I had been in London for two years. During the time I was {#blank#}1{#/blank#} there, my strong wish was to go back home instead of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} in the city I didn't know well.

So when the day came for my {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. I had a strange feeling and my mind was full of beautiful things in London—-the tall trees around my {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, the clean streets, the school library, the old church near the school and so on. I was for the first time not sure {#blank#}5{#/blank#} I really wish to go. I was becoming good at spoken English and interested in the different way of living in London.

    Most important of all. I did not want to leave my {#blank#}6{#/blank#} who were near and dear to me during the two long years. I felt like running into the head teacher's office and telling him that I really didn't want to go home. But on the second thought I stopped myself {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the plan. My parents are quite old and I might have no time to see them again if I gave up this plan. At the airport, most of my teachers and friends came to see me off and quite a few gave me {#blank#}8{#/blank#}. Many group photos were taken and before long the final moment came. Everyone shook hands with me and said goodbye to me. Their eyes were filled with {#blank#}9{#/blank#}and I knew they were {#blank#}10{#/blank#} at the moment.
