    Beijing Opera roles require performers to paint {#blank#}1{#/blank#}( they) faces in patterns and colours to suggest different character types and{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(quality).

    In Beijing Opera, facial painting can be quite complex(复杂的). However, in the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(begin), only three colours{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(use)-red, white and black. Now, many other colours, such {#blank#}5{#/blank#}yellow, purple, blue and green, are used for facial painting.

    Red is a colour for{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(brave) and loyalty. Guan Yu, a general from the Three Kingdoms Period(AD 220-280) is a good example of this kind of character. He is famous {#blank#}7{#/blank#}being very loyal to his emperor, Liu bei.

    White means all{#blank#}8{#/blank#}is bad in human nature. One of the typical white-faced characters is Cao Cao, a{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (power) and cruel prime minister from the Three Kingdoms Period.

    Black face paint is {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(usual) used for someone who is fierce and violent. One typical example is General Zhang Fei from the classic novel, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

    All these different colours are used in Beijing Opera facial painting to show a clear picture of each character.

    Debbie, who lives in Hong Kong, was on holiday in Beijing with her best friend Lily. Lily is a beautiful girl who is studying science at university. She also models{#blank#}1{#/blank#}her spare time. Debbie is studying history and wants to be writer. Debbie was{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(especial) excited as she{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(study)hutongs earlier in the year{#blank#}9{#/blank#}was the Forbidden City that was next on{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(they) agenda and the girls loved every minute of the tour around the beautiful grounds. Because they were leaving the next day, when they finished the tour, they went shopping and splashed out on an expensive meal.

    In today's world many people seem to be {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (hunger) for money. Money does have its most useful effects on the poor. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} even if a person has already got plenty of money, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (happy) can't be bought by money.

    If money were beginning, all millionaires {#blank#}4{#/blank#} have real love, true friendship, good health and a long life. However, this is not always correct.

    Since {#blank#}5{#/blank#} beginning of time no three words have ever invited more {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (pleased) than "I love you". But can love be bought? I'm afraid not Love {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (mean) to give, not to take. To every person, health and a long life are bought with money? The answer is "No".

    Of all the longest {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (life) people in the world, few of them are millionaires. True friendship can't be bought, either in a world, where money is {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (dream) too much, it can cause brothers to quarrel, marriage to end, lovers to hate, and {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (strange) to fight. No matter how much money you have, it is still not enough to make a happy person if you have no one to laugh with, no one to cry for.

    When I first began my teaching career 20 years ago, a friend of my father said to me, "We were expecting great things from you. You could {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(be) a political leader or {#blank#}2{#/blank#} police chief, but instead you just became a teacher." I told him if I {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (inspire) one of the children that year to be a leader, and one every year for the rest of my career, I would be very proud of my contribution to our community.

    Imagine you plant a small and weak tree in your yard. Then you move away. One day you are back. But it looks different now, strong tall, with many{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(branch) and beautiful leaves. You stand in its broad shade, remembering the little tree {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(plant) years ago. That is teaching.

Testerld Nora Langdon spent many days a week at the Royal Oak Gym, training for lifting contests. She has become a(n) {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (outstand) idol to people of all ages.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#} the age of 65, Langdon was determined to live {#blank#}3{#/blank#} healthier lifestyle. In 2007, she weighed over 210 pounds and often struggled to catch her breath while {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (go) up the stairs. She knew she had to change.

Langdon has set 19 world {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (record) and quickly became one of Michigan's best in her age range. Although Langdon has achieved a lot, she shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
