Hi! Welcome to my webpage. My name's Tom Wood and I'm an English teacher. I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (design) this webpage last week so that my students can learn more about me.     I was born in London, England, but I've lived and worked in China for the past 15 years and I really like living here.

    I can speak Putonghua and even a little bit of Cantonese{#blank#}4{#/blank#} is my wife's dialect (方言). I practice{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(speak) Chinese every day and I am improving{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(fortunate), there are one or two million people in my town who are ready to help me with my Chinese! I particularly enjoy talking to my neighbors.

    My favourite sport is football. I play football once a week with some of the other teachers at the school. We're going to organize a(n){#blank#}7{#/blank#} (compete) with teams of teachers from other schools this summer.

    Woodblock painting（木版画）are often hung at homes during the Chinese Lunar New Year.

    For many Chinese, the bright-colored paintings are quite time-limited. As soon as the festival comes to an end, these print works are at once thrown away. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, these short-lives New Year paintings require a year of hard work by the artists, many of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} have devoted their entire life to this traditional folk art.

    Yang Luoshu, a 92-year-old man from Weifang City, Shandong Province, is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} those who have had a great love of the art. Yang has worked as {#blank#}4{#/blank#} craftsman for 77 years, and has kept improving his carving skills with every piece of work.

    Yangjiabu New Year woodblock paintings, which Yang has fallen in love with, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(appear) in the Ming Dynasty. As a national cultural heritage, it is now one of China's three {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(representative) of traditional folk paintings for the New Year, together with Tianjin's Yangliuqing and Suzhou's Taohuawu.

    {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(run) a centuries-old folk art family workshop named Tongshunde, Yang has carved all kinds of images, including flowers, birds, mountains, rivers and traditional Chinese gods. But he realizes that something must be changed {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(make) sure handmade New Year paintings live on. “We are now thinking about development, allowing the paintings to be more {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(create).” he said. For him, the next thing to do is to find qualified successors to ensure that the skills {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(pass) to younger generations.

    Believe it or not, have you ever noticed that you feel happier and more relaxed after you eat bread, pasta or fruit? Do you find that you are more energetic and awake after eating yogurt or beans? These things are not accidents. Food affect {#blank#}1{#/blank#} we feel more than we think. Scientists researching {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (it) effect on our moods are beginning to understand that we can influence our feelings with what we eat.

Like Hollywood space movies where Americans are pictured as the only ones capable{#blank#}7{#/blank#}saving human being, here Chinese astronauts are the adventurers among the global space community{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(determine) to complete the task.

    Regardless of the outcome for the history of mankind, Chinese astronauts have decided to choose hope. Hope is as precious{#blank#}9{#/blank#}diamond, which is the only way home. As the saying goes in the movie, among tens of thousands of matters, safety is the first one.{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (regular)operations will make your loved ones shed tears.

    Mochi (年糕) is a traditional food popular in Chinese and Japanese cooking, made from {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (special) treated rice. It is often presented in the form of a round cake, and is traditionally exchanged at the New Year.

Mochi is made by {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (put) sticky rice into water overnight, cooking it and pounding it into a sticky paste. The paste is made into shapes ranging from simple to complex rounds, some of {#blank#}3{#/blank#} are stuffed with sweet fillings. Mochi is often decorated with {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (flower) or fruits, especially when it is exchanged as {#blank#}5{#/blank#} gift at celebrations like birthdays and the New Year.

    Traditionally, wooden mortars (臼) and pestles (杵) {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (use) to pound mochi rice. Fresh mochi is usually cooked and served warm {#blank#}7{#/blank#} a variety of sauces. Steaming and boiling are both popular preparations in Japan, along with cooking. Fresh mochi is soft but it{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (hard) quickly. Prepacked mochi blocks, flattened and cut into square pieces or shaped into rounds, are available at grocery stores. Mochi can go bad easily, so it's {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (good) to cook soon than to keep it in your fridge.

    Hard mochi pieces can be cooked, deep-fried, boiled, and more. Cooked mochi is very sticky, so be careful not {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (choke) on it.
