Dear helpful Hannah,

I've got a problem with my husband, Sam. He bought a smart phone a couple of months ago and he took it on our recent ski vacation to Colorado, it was a great trip except for one problem. He has a constant urge{#blank#}1{#/blank#} for next messages; he checks his phone every five minutes! He's so addicted to it that he just can't stand the idea {#blank#}2{#/blank#} there may be an important text. He can't help checking even at inappropriate times like when we are eating in a restaurant and I am talking to him! He behaves{#blank#}3{#/blank#} any small amount of boredom can make him feel the need to check his phone even when he know he shouldn't. The temptation to see {#blank#}4{#/blank#} is connecting him is just too great. When I ask him to put down the phone and stop {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (ignore) me, he say, “In a minute.” but still checks to see if{#blank#}6{#/blank#} has posted something new on the Internet. Our life {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (interrupted). If we go somewhere and I ask him to have the phone at home, he suffers from withdrawal symptom. May this dependency on his smart phone has become more than an everyday problem.

I recently read an article about “nomophobia,”{#blank#}8{#/blank#} is a real illness people can't suffer from the fear of being without your phone! I am worried that Sam maybe suffering from this illness because he feels anxious if he doesn't have his phone with him, even for a short time.

  Who would have thought that little devices like these could have brought so much trouble!                                                                                                                                     

Sick and Tired Sadie

    Mr.Smith used to be in prison for three{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(year),which may make you think he is not a good man.But{#blank#}2{#/blank#}fact, he is kind-hearted as well as honest.The reason why he was put into prison was not that he{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(he) broke the law, but that his six-year-old son blew up the bridge near his home,imitating（模仿）what he had seen on TV.Although this little boy{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(break) the law,he was so young that he couldn't be put in prison.According to the local law,the boy's parents could not avoid{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(punish).

    As{#blank#}6{#/blank#}result, Mr. Smith received the punishment. He was arrested and finally was taken to the police station. Most of the people in the town showed pity on him,but it was{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(complete) useless.After all,everybody is to obey the law{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(make) by the government.Unluckily,what made us{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(amaze) was that Mrs.Smith was out of work before long.However, they have lived a happy life ever since.Misfortunes（不幸）tell us{#blank#}10{#/blank#}fortune is.

    December 16, 2013 was my birthday. It was the day {#blank#}1{#/blank#} my best friend left me. I remember it as if it were yesterday. It was also our Christmas concert. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(offer) a job in Colorado, my friend's father had to leave our city. And his family had to go with {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(he). Mr. Escalante, our old headmaster, brought her whole family up on the stage, and they made a big {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(announce) about how they {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(leave). After the concert ended, I was in a total mess. I felt as if I had made something torn out of my body that could never be {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(full) replaced. My best friend's name was Hannah Zona.

    Ever since I was a little girl, my family was always with the Zonas. We would go to the fair, did anything you could think of. {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(live) so close {#blank#}8{#/blank#} each other, we could always go to each other's houses after school. {#blank#}9{#/blank#}she is about 7 years older than me, we act like we are sisters. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(word) can't describe how much I miss her. When she comes back to California, it's like we were never apart. Hannah Zona is the best friend you could ask for. No one could ever replace her and the love I have for her.

    In only fifty years, English has developed into the language most {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (wide) spoken and used in the world.  Foreign staff in China are not requested {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (learn) Chinese. Chinese businessmen, taxi drivers and students can talk with them {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (use) English. You can listen to English songs {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the radio or use English to communicate with people around the world through the Internet. With so many people communicating in English every day, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} will become more and more important to have a good knowledge of English.

    I won't call myself the most accomplished person when it comes to {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (hold) chopsticks. In fact, I'm pretty sure that my technique looks clumsy at times. I tend to hold {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (I) in the middle, more beginner than expert.

    Still, since I eat almost every meal with the eating utensil(器皿)of choice in China it's not uncommon for a new friend or acquaintance to come to a simple {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (conclude) after observing me that my Chinese husband, Jun, must {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (show) me how to use them.

    They are wrong. I've used chopsticks ever since I was a teenager, a time when my sister and mother were both fond of Chinese cuisine and introduced me {#blank#}5{#/blank#} many new dishes, along with the {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (prefer) utensils in China. We always kept bamboo chopsticks along with our {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (knife), forks and spoons, ready for whenever we happened to have Chinese food for dinner. It was my closest family {#blank#}8{#/blank#} observed my first mistakes I made in using chopsticks.

    Plus, I lived over two years in China before Jun and I started dating and I {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (expect) to use chopsticks in almost every restaurant, stand and bar. Trust me, when you're hungry you figure out pretty fast what it takes to down(咽下) {#blank#}10{#/blank#} meal with these utensils.
