Last year at the weekly classes of Eastside Academic Studies, I met some people with the whole responsibility for teaching and working. They cared deeply for the 1 of their students. One of them was the English teacher, Mrs. Roos, who taught me AP Language and Composition.

I used to hate being called upon in class mainly because I didn't like attention drawn to myself.And1otherwise assigned(指定)a seat by the teacher,I always2to sit at the back of the classroom.

All this3after I joined a sports team.It began when a teacher suggested I try out for the basketball team.At first I thought it was a crazy4because I didn't have a good sense of balance, nor did I have the5to keep pace with the others on the team and they would tease me.But for the teacher who kept insisting on my "6for it",I wouldn't have decided to give a try.

Getting up the courage to go to the tryouts(选拔)was only the7of it!When I first started8the practice sessions,I didn't even know the rules of the game,much9what I was doing.Sometimes I'd get10and take a shot at the wrong direction which made me feel really stupid.11,I wasn't the only one "new" at the game,so I decided to12on learning the game,do my best at each practice session, and not be too hard on myself for the things I didn't 13"just yet".

I practiced and practiced.Soon I knew the14and the "moves".Being part of a team was fun and motivating. Very soon the competitive15in me was winning over my lack of confidence. With time,I learned how to play and made friends in the16—friends who respected my efforts to work hard and be a team player.I never had so much fun!

With my17self-confidence comes more praise from teachers and classmates.I have gone from "18" in the back of the classroom and not wanting to call attention to myself,19raising my hand—even when I sometimes wasn't and not 100 percent20I had the right answer. Now I have more self-confidence in myself.

Chad didn't start to4until he was 5, according to his mother, Pam Wood. Although her son was5a disadvantage, she was determined not to treat him6. “I've expected him to do everything every other kid does, and I saw no7why he couldn't,” she told ABC News. “And if he8the first time, we just tried again.”

Chad, 17, worked hard throughout school,9no special treatment but sitting at the front of the class and using a special audio system so he could hear the teacher. All his hard work10. He received full school fare to Vanderbilt University. “Deafness had taught me a lesson to never11,” he said in the speech. “Not when the experts tell you it cannot be done. Not when you have12so far behind that escaping seems the only way 13. Not when achieving your dreams seems an entire14.”

Chad spoke for about four minutes, after which he received a standing applause from the class and15messages from family, friends and strangers. “They've been sending me messages on Facebook, email, they've been talking to me in person telling me how it had a16on their lives and how they're really17by it,” Chad told ABC News. “It feels18.     One of the most inspiring quotes(名言) I ever heard was by Brian Tracy. He said: "The1between successful people and unsuccessful people is that successful people2many more times than unsuccessful people."

I deeply understood the 3 of the quote soon after my fist book was published.

I was living in Atlanta at the time and 4 my fist signing sale for my new book at the phoenix and Dragon, the largest bookstore in the city. Although a nice sign was placed outside the room 5images of both me and my book, The 9 Insights of the Wealthy Soul, not a single customer entered the room. 6each minute passed, I became increasingly7.

At 6:25 pm, just before the store's8, I began to get myself ready to leave. At that moment, just when I couldn't fell any 9, a middle-aged couple walked into the room. I managed to 10 my emotions and introduced myself and my book.

The couple turned the pages each other, and the husband 11 to his wife. She then told me," I think we'll get the book."

Despite the impulse (冲动)to jump 12, and hold their hands to thank them for being my13readers, I realized the woman was trying to say something else.

"The 14 we're buying it is that our son died two years ago," she said. "Maybe your book will help us 15 it."

At that moment, I knew if never sold a copy of the book, my four years of  16 had been meaningless.

Although I would have many more challenging years 17 my book became a bestseller, this couple's story was all the18I needed at that point to keep me 19.

Thanks to them, I would realize that the greatest of lives are made all in the same way: One challenge ... one challenge ... one difficulty ... one step ... and one small20 at a time.
