Steve Jobs was famous for starting Apple Computers. In a speech to graduating students at Stanford University, Jobs told students about some of life-changing experiences. Jobs believed these experiences helped him achieve success.

Job's biological mother was a college student. As a young mother, she felt unable to bring Jobs up so she put him up for adoption. Job's adopted parents were simple working-class people. When Jobs was 17, his parents used their saving to send him to college.

After six months of college, Jobs decided it was not for him. Around that time, he had read a quotation that went something like,“If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right.”The quotation made him think about his life and his future. He started to question if he should stay in college. Was he doing what he really wanted to do? Eventually, he decided he had to change something; he decided to drop out of college.

Jobs was lucky because he knew what he loved to do. He started Apple Computers in his parents' garage with a friend when he was 20. In just ten years, Apple grew into a $2 billion company. However in 1985, Jobs was fired from the company.

Jobs was shocked. He lost everything at once. He quickly realized that he still loved what he did, and over the next five years, he started two highly successful companies. next and Pixar. Jobs also met his future wife, Laurence. Jobs was happily married with a family, working for Apple again and living every day as if it were his last.

    Jack was seven years old. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} One day, their mother took them to their aunt's house to play when she wanted to go to the big city to buy some gifts. It was the holiday season.

    The children had a good time at their aunt's. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Then, at half past four their aunt took Jack into the kitchen (厨房). She gave him a delicious cake and a knife and said to him, " {#blank#}3{#/blank#}and give one of the pieces（块）to your sister, but remember to do it like a gentleman(绅士)."

    "Like a gentleman?" Jack asked. " {#blank#}4{#/blank#}"

    "They always give the bigger piece to the other person." said his aunt at once.

    "Oh," said Jack. He thought about this for a few seconds(秒). Then he took the cake to his sister and said to her, " {#blank#}5{#/blank#}".

    To me, music is food and water. I can't live without it. I know this is not true for everybody. Usually lots of people go to concerts or listen to music records. Maybe some of you don't do these and you get along quite well, but music is everywhere in our life. For example when you watch movies or TV plays, will you find them interesting if there is no music? I'm sure you will find them boring. And when you are waiting for the train or the plane, you would like some music because it makes the time seem shorter.

    Some people like to sit by the sea and listen to the sound of the sea. Some enjoy listening to the singing of birds. Those sounds are some kind of music. So music has meaning for everyone in some way or others. Of course, it has special meaning for people like me. We spend our lives playing or writing music.

    Someone said, "Through music a child goes into a world of beauty, learns to take care of others and makes his mind and body strong."音乐真的在我们的生活中扮演重要的角色。

    Are you learning a foreign language? Do you know what a successful Language learner should do?

    First of all, successful language learners are independent(独立的) learners. They do not depend on books or teachers. They find out their own ways to learn the language. Instead of waiting for the teacher to explain, they try to find methods and rules for themselves. They also look for clues (线索)and get their own ideas by guessing(猜测). When they guess wrong, they try again. They try to learn from their mistakes. It is more important for them to learn to think than to know the meaning of every word.

    Successful language learning is active learning, so successful learners do not wait for a chance to use the language. They usually look for such a chance. They find native speakers and ask them for help when they make mistakes. They will try everything to communicate. They are not afraid to what they hear or to say strange things.

    Finally, successful language learners are learners with a purpose(目的).

    They want to learn the language because they are interested in native speakers' lives. It is necessary for them to learn the language in order to communicate with foreigners and learn about their lives. Their cultures and so on.

    My wife and I spent two weeks in London last year. We went there in autumn. We think it is the best season to visit England. The weather is usually good and there aren't too many travellers in October.

    We stayed in a small hotel in the West End. It was convenient as we did most of our sightseeing on foot. Taxis were too expensive, we couldn't understand the bus routes, and my wife didn't like travelling on the underground. She said it made her feel sick.

    We went to look at the places which all visitors visit. We saw Buckingham Palace. We went shopping in Oxford Street and spent too much money. What we liked most, of course, was going to the theatre. We didn't have the chance to see such wonderful plays at home. A lot of people say English food is very bad. We didn't think so. It's true that most of the restaurants are French or Italian or Chinese, but we had some very good meals.

    In fact, we enjoyed our holiday so much that we have already booked(预订) again for this year. We're going to take an umbrella. I'm sure we'll need it sometimes.
