    You may love to see tigers at the zoo. But what if you had to stay with one on a boat on the open sea for over 200 days? Life of Pi《少年派的奇幻漂流》, the movie from American Chinese director(导演), Li An, tells an amazing story.

    Pi is a boy. He lives happily with his family in a beautiful Indian town. His father has a zoo, so Pi knows a lot about animals.

    But one day, his father decides to move to Canada. He will sell all his animals there. The family begin to sail on the Pacific with all the zoo animals. But a big storm(暴风雨) hits their ship at night. Finally, Pi finds the only Survivors(幸存者) are himself and a large tiger called Parker on an 8-meter boat.

    To keep himself alive, Pi has to keep feeding the tiger so that he does not get eaten. He tries to get on well with the tiger during a 227-day sail on the sea.

    The movie is from a Canadian writer Yann Martel's book of the same name. The book has sold 7 million copies world-wide. It discusses not only hope but also relationship(关系) between humans and nature.

    It took Li An four years to make the movie. He also used 3D for his first time. He hopes the movie will “make the people think”. Life of Pi opened in Chinese theaters on November 22, 2012.

Julie: Look! The elephants are eating grass. They are so big.

Susan: They are big and friendly to people.

Julie: There are giraffes over there.

Susan: What are they doing?

Julie: They are playing with the elephants.

Susan: Do you like giraffes?

Julie: Yes, I do. They are very cute.

Susan: Are the koalas there sleeping?

Julie: Yes, they are. They usually sleep during the day.

Susan: Is the lion eating there?

Julie: No, it isn't. It's relaxing. It relaxes for 20 hours every day.

    Henry is an English boy. He is 14 years old. He visited Beijing with his family last summer. Then he became interested in(对……感兴趣) Chinese culture. He wanted to learn Chinese, so he asked his aunt to teach him. His aunt is from China. He also wanted to learn to play the erhu. But he didn't know where to buy one in England. So he asked his pen pal(笔友) Li Gang for help. Li Gang is a Chinese boy. He lives in Shanghai. He bought a erhu and mailed(邮寄) it to Henry. Now Henry is waiting for his package(包裹). He can't wait to receive it.

    One of the easiest ways to keep healthy is to do jogging. Jogging is the name for very gentle (平和的) running-it is just a little faster than walking.

    First jog slowly 20 meters, and then walk 20 meters. Little by little if you are not feeling very tired, you may jog more and walk less. Finally, jog the whole way. It will be easy for you to start jogging for 15 minutes twice a week. Then slowly increase this to 20 ~ 30 minutes every day. The longer you join in jogging, the more you will enjoy it and the healthier you will become. Some people like jogging alone and others enjoy doing it with friends. Jogging in groups makes people keener (更热心的) because you just can't stay in bed while there is a group of friends waiting outside.

Abingdon School Open Day

    The Open Day this year will be on Saturday, 1 October 2011. The Open Day is for all the family, with activities and displays(展示) about all aspects(方面) of the school. All the teachers, students and parents will attend. The day starts at 9:30 a. m. and finishes at 2:30 p.m.  You are welcome to arrive at any time during the lessons in the morning and afternoon. Please read the outline of Open Day events.

    If you can't come to the Open Day, that's all right. There are many other chances(机会) to visit Abingdon School

    St Helen School and St Katharine School Open Day will be on the same date, so you can also visit those two.

    Parking at the school on the Open Day may be limited(有限的), so you can also park your cars in Lotus Supermarket's car park.  It's just a three-minute walk away.
