It was Mother's Day. John was so busy with his work that he couldn't go back home. When he walked by a flower shop in the evening, an idea came to his mind. “I'll send Mum some roses (玫瑰).”
   While John was picking his flowers, a young man went inside. “How many roses can I get for only five dollars, Madam?” he asked. The shop assistant told him that roses were as expensive as forty dollars a dozen (一打). Maybe he would be happy with carnations(康乃馨). She told him they were a lot cheaper than roses.
   “No, I have to have red roses," he said, "My mum was badly ill last year and I didn't get to spend much time with her. Now I want to get something special, it has to be roses, as the rose is her favorite.”
   After hearing this, John said he would pay the rest of the money for the young man. Moved by both of them, the shop assistant said, “Well, lovely young men, thirty dollars a dozen, only for you two." Taking the roses, the young man almost jumped into the air. He thanked John, and ran out of the shop. It was well worth twenty-five dollars John paid to see the exciting moment. Then John paid for his dozen of roses and told the shop assistant to send them to his mother.
   As he walked out, he felt nice. Suddenly he saw the young man crossing the street and going into a park. But soon he realized it was not a park but a cemetery (墓地). Crying, the young man carefully laid the roses, "Mum, oh, Mum, why didn't I tell you how much I loved you? God, please help me find my mum and tell her I love her.”
   Seeing this, John turned and quickly walked back to the shop. He would take the flowers home himself.

    Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and their children were going to begin their holiday one day, and they had to be at the airport at eleven forty in the morning. "It'll take us half an hour to get there in the car," Mr. Wilson said, "so we must leave before eleven o'clock. Don't be late."

    At ten minutes to eleven, they were busy doing things, except Mrs. Wilson didn't, she was sitting quietly on a chair in the garden and enjoying the sun.

    Her husband and children were very surprised. Why wasn't she busy, too. Mrs. Wilson answered, "Well, before I went to bed last night, I moved all our clocks and watches ahead twenty minutes. So now we can go to the airport quietly, Don't worry, then."

    On a Wednesday night, a young man was playing the guitar at the underground station. Some people stopped and put some money into his hat.

    The next day, the young man came to the underground station again. There was a large piece of paper next to his hat. It said，"Last night, a kind man named Chris put something important into my hat. Please come to get it back soon."

    About half an hour later, an old man came and the young man said，"Yes, I knew you would come back."

    "What did you lose？"asked the young man. "$800，000，"answered the old man.

    Then the young man took out a check(支票)and gave it back to the old man. The old man was so happy and thanked the young guitar player.

    I have a funny friend called Michael. He is about 1. 78mctres tall. He has poor eyesight（视力）because of too much computer work at night. He wears a pair of small, round glasses and they make him look smart.

    Michael likes to tell funny jokes and they always make us laugh. He is humorous. So when I feel bored on unhappy, I always go to him.

    He likes to wear a red T-shirt and jeans. He has short curly brown hair. Michael's legs are very long. When he passes the desk, he often knocks over our school things. He's so funny!

    He is friendly to everyone and likes helping others. He always helps me with my English. With his help, I do well in English. I'm more interested in English.

    Clark and Dale were staying in the same room in hospital. Clark was so sick that he could not even move his body. He had to spend all his time lying on his back. Dale could sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon. His bed was next to the room's only window.

    Over time, Clark and Dale became good friends. Every afternoon, Dale would look out of the room's only window, describing the scenery outside for his friend. He told Clark about the flowers in a park outside the window, the people walking by, the green trees beside the roads—anything that might interest a man.

    On morning, when a nurse came only to check the two men, she found that Dale had died in his sleep. As soon as the room seemed tidy again. Clark asked if he could move to the bed next to the window so that he could look out of the window himself. The nurse agreed. Slowly, he could take his first look at the world outside. To his surprise, he could see nothing but a blank wall of another building.

    The nurse explained that Dale had been blind. He had never seen anything outside the window at all—but he described beautiful scenes to help his friend better.

    One day a dog saw a lion running to him, The dog quickly stood near some bones(骨头)on the ground. Then the dog began to "eat" the bones with his back to the lion. Just as the lion was about to jump, the dog said, "That was one delicious lion! I want to know if there are any more around here."

    Hearing this, the young lion felt scared and ran away.

    A squirrel(松鼠) saw this. He told the lion about the dog's trick(恶作剧). The young lion was angry. "Jump on my back and see what's going to happen to that dog!" the young lion shouted.

    The dog saw the lion coming with the squirrel. But he didn't run, he pretended he didn't see them. When they got close, the dog said, "Where's my squirrel? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another lion.
