Here are some tips on listening. We hope it can help you in one way or another.
●Relax yourself.
Before you start to listen to something, You need to relax.

●Listen carefully to the first sentence.
{#blank#}2{#/blank#} For example, if eyou hear“Many shops in many parts of China have decided to take away all kinds of Japanese goods off their shelves, but some people say it's not a good idea. Our reporter says…”,you know you will hear a piece of news, not a children's story or a science report.
●Think when you're listening.
{#blank#}3{#/blank#} For example, you can think of the following questions: What happened? When , where and how? What was the result and what does the speaker want to tell us? In this way, you may undersrand the passage better.
●Listen for important facts.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#} For example, if the passage is a science report, you should try to remember its findings , and how the scientists got their results.
●Don't think about one or two words for too long.
You may hear some words that you don't know. But don't spend too much time on them.
{#blank#}5{#/blank#} But you can remember some words or sentences that you think are important, and you can use them when you're answering the questions.

    In many western schools, sports day is a big event. Children take part in competitive (竞争性的)sports and try to break school records and take the first place.

    Sports days, or sports meetings, are usually held in the warmer seasons, either at the beginning or the end of the school year. They are also called field days. Primary school sports days are fun. They usually have activities such as the egg and the spoon race and the sack race. Other events include the skipping race (跳绳) and the three-legged race. In middle and high schools, sports days include many of the common track and field events (田径项目).  They are more serious and competitive than primary school ones.

    Students' parents and other relatives also come to the  school on sports days. They watch children play. Many schools in the West have "mothers and fathers" races for parents to take part in!

    Although sports days are exciting, they also have some problems. According to some reports in the USA, sports days have become too competitive to be good for students. Some parents put too much pressure on the children. Some schools don't have "mothers and fathers" races any more as there is much fighting and cheating.

    A traveler in South Africa once set out on a long journey. When crossing a wide plain(平原), far from home, he saw a lion at a distance.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}, and followed him slowly.

    When the traveler walked fast, the lion walked fast! When he stopped, the lion stopped! {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, and then attack(攻击)him.

    He was not able to run away from the lion because the lion ran faster than him. So he thought of a plan to fool it.

    He came to a large rock. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, where the lion could not see him. Then taking a stick which he could found there, he put his coat and his hat on it, in order to make them look like a man. He then placed the stick with the coat and the hat standing in the ground above the rock. He then left quietly.

    The lion stopped and watched the coat and the hat, at a distance. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

    But the traveler was already far away. Before long, he reached his own home.
