Peter was the best table tennis player in his school and hardly ever lost a match. He hated losing anything. When he (win), he would feel really good. If he lost, he would feel terrible. It seemed to Peter that losing was the (bad) thing in the world.

A new kid, Albert, came to Peter's school. He was good at table tennis, too. Soon there would be a match Peter and Albert. Peter worked hard to get ready for the match, but Albert didn't seem (think) much of it. When the match began, Albert was a real player. There was always a smile on his face, while Peter looked serious all the time. Peter thought it was so important to win the match he even wanted to cheat(作弊), but he lost in the end.

"You played very well, Peter. I think we can play again sometime," said Albert. But Peter didn't feel happy and couldn't fall (sleep) that night.

One day, Peter saw Albert playing basketball. he lost again and again, the happy smile never left his face. Peter found Albert was great at table tennis, but bad at basketball. However, he enjoyed of them.

Whether he won or lost the game, Albert enjoyed it. Peter came to realize that enjoying a game was much more important than winning or (lose) it. He felt (happy) than ever before.

语法填空。

The story was a true one and still moved me deeply. Twenty years ago, I got to know a poor lady{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(name) Rose. She had no kids and lived alone. When I went to visit her, I always took Rose some coffee and food. One day she said she would like{#blank#}2{#/blank#}( invite) me to have lunch.

We walked from my work place{#blank#}3{#/blank#} a little restaurant. On the way, I {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (begin) to worry: I knew that she had no money, but if I offered to pay for the lunch, I was afraid I would hurt her.

There {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (be) many people in the restaurant, and all of them were happy. Rose told me{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(sit) and drink coffee by the window. Then she went to work in the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, she came out and sat with me. She just paid{#blank#}7{#/blank#}the meal and we started to enjoy the delicious food together. She told me that the restaurant let people{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(work) for a meal if they had no money, or would give them a free meal if they were not able to work .{#blank#}9{#/blank#}my surprise, she also said that the workers who were working there were all volunteers.

I still remember the beautiful afternoon I shared with Rose. I think life cannot be easy for us, but we can still do something for our friends and neighbors. The world will be{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(nice) than before if everybody would like to share happiness with others. It will never be dark if there is a light in everyone's heart.

阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或括号内单词的正确形式,并把答案填写在答题卷的相应位置。

"How are you?" It's a question that seems simple, but {#blank#}1{#/blank#}can really make people feel very strange.

Last month, Alina Simone wrote in the New York Times about the {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(difficult) that Russians have with this question. The same question, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Russian language and culture, is always answered in a negative(负面的) way. In Russia, when asked "How are you?", people usually complain(抱怨) about health, weather or things that {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(happen) recently. So when they're asked, they don't know what to do.

In English speaking countries, "How are you?" has one standard answer: "Fine, and you?" That's because it is {#blank#}5{#/blank#}about getting information but a greeting. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}an English speaking friend really wants to know what's going on in your life, he/she is more likely to ask:"what have you been up to?" or "what's new?"

But I understand why people are so {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(surprise) about it. When we learn second languages, we have to learn rules for using words as much as words themselves. {#blank#}8{#/blank#}can you learn those rules? {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(watch) English-language TV shows is a good place to start. If you can, try to make an English-speaking friend or pen pal and talk to him/her {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(direct).

    So how are you?
