You may know a lot about smartphones. But what about smart cities?

Imagine living your life like this: When you wake up in the morning, you say "Open the window" to the computer and it opens the window. The sunshine is shining and the birds are singing. Then you finish breakfast and sit in front of your desk and begin to have classes through the Internet. With the help of building a smart city, this may become true one day.

A smart city uses digital technologies(数字科技）such as the Internet to improve city planning, save resources(资源) and make our lives easier. For example, people live in smart cities, where there is Internet almost everywhere. They can do many things at home, such as booking train tickets, paying water bills and shopping online. What a convenient life it is!

Now China is making some cities smarter. For example, Guiyang is going to build free Wi-Fi in the whole city. Tianjin plans to start a smart city program to solve traffic problems. Guangzhou is creating a smart city, so everyone in the city should play a role in creating a smart city.

Hello, I'm Li Hua, born in 2000. I have seen the rapid 1 in my city myself. When I was born, I lived in a two-floor 2 . Now my family moves to another tall building with big rooms. In 2004, my father bought 3 the first mobile phone. He could call his friends or 4 messages to them. But since 2006, he has 5 5 other phones. The new technology has made the cellphones a necessary part in our lives. They are 6 to use now. When I was young, we must buy objects with 7 . But now a smartphone helps us pay for goods in the markets. For the 20 years, the number of the cars has increased 8 . We can see more and more ordinary people 9 cars or planning to buy cars. So there are fewer and fewer bikes on the road. With the development of China, people's living conditions are 10 better and better. 

Do you know Tuvalu? It is one of the smallest countries in the world. It is difficult to find fresh water(淡水) in the country, so people can't grow plants or vegetables there. They need to pay much money for fresh vegetables from other countries.

However, the sea around Tuvalu is cleaner than any other part of the world, because there are not any large factories(工厂) in the country. This beautiful country with clean sea makes lots of people from other countries travel there.

Tuvalu will face another problem, because the sea level(海平面) may soon become higher than the land of Tuvalu. If that happens, Tuvalu will show up only on old maps in the future. Most of the people in Tuvalu worry about this, but they can't do anything to stop this from happening, and many people are leaving Tuvalu for other countries.

What's more, there is only one senior high school in Tuvalu. It is truly difficult for students to learn useful things in the school. After people move away from Tuvalu, they can't find good jobs because they can only grow fruit, catch fish and clean houses. For people still living in Tuvalu, maybe they can look on the good side(往好的方面看) and try to do something to stop the sea level growing.

In many places on Earth the weather changes during the year. These changes are called seasons. 

Spring Spring starts when the day and night are of the same length. The weather gets warmer and sunnier. Trees and plants start to grow. Many animals have their babies in spring. 

Summer Summer begins on the longest day of the year. In the north this is on 21 June. Summer is usually the warmest and sunniest time of the year. Fruit grows on trees and plants. Young animals grow bigger and stronger. 

Autumn Autumn starts when the day and night are of the same length again. During autumn, the leaves change colour and fall from the trees. Some animals collect food before winter comes. 

Winter Winter begins on the shortest day of the year. In the north this is on 21 December. The weather is co lder and in some places there is lots of snow. Plants and trees stop growing. Some animals, like snakes and bears, find places to hide and sleep. This is called hibernation.

●In tropical (热带的) places near the Earth's equator (赤道) there are two seasons: a"wet" season and a"dry" season. 

For tens of years, a phone booth (电话亭) stood in the Mojave Desert, about 75 miles southwest of Las Vegas, America. People called it the Mojave Phone Booth. It seemed unusual for a phone booth to stand in the desert (沙漠). The phone booth was said for local miners (矿工) and their families around 1950. 

Later one day, Godfrey Daniels, a man from Arizona, America, heard about the phone booth. He had the phone number and decided to call it just to see if anyone would answer. Nobody answered at first. He called the number whenever he was free. After several tries, someone actually answered the phone. Godfrey spoke with a woman. She was a miner working there. 

Godfrey put the phone's number on the Internet, and many people began calling it. Godfrey even travelled to visit the phone booth. And he was not the only person to do that. Many people went to the Mojave Desert just to see the phone booth. They often camped out, waiting to answer the special phone. Calls came in from many different states and even different countries. Answering the phone and talking to strangers became an enjoyable activity for them. They shared their own stories and even made friends with each other. 

In 2000, the phone booth was removed ( 被拆除) because visitors were causing too much stress (压力) on the environment. Although the phone booth is no longer in the desert, many people still remember it and talk about it.
