When you need a job very much, you may end up taking one for which you are over qualified. Although you were initially grateful just to have the work, you now feel bored and depressed. Is there any way to change that?

Start by changing your opinion, says Caitlin Kelly, the author of Malled, a book based on her experience as a sales clerk after losing her job in journalism. "Don't focus on what you're not getting but what you are getting," she says. "Be patient and work attentively with a wide range of people. It doesn't matter what the job is –there are always things you can learn and skills you can develop."

Hilary Pearl, the founder of a coaching firm, says, "Tell yourself the current situation isn't the end of your career. Don't overdramatize(过分夸大)the negative aspects but try to view the situation more philosophically: life has a series of stages, and this is one of them. Don't forget to study even in the worst stage."

Consider that because you're overqualified, you may be able to learn or do things on the job that might not have been possible in a more demanding position, says Sarah Hathorn, the chief executive of Illustra Consulting. "You could spend your extra time in learning different aspects of the business and teaching others in the organization," she says.

Is it possible to make your work more challenging, even if your job responsibilities aren't likely to change?

Of course, you may seek tasks and responsibilities that force you to learn something new or to work harder. "You may be operating on autopilot(习惯性地)right now, but chances are that people above you are stressed," Sarah Hathorn says." Take things off your boss's plate and let him know which projects or tasks you want to learn more about."

Always express your request positively, saying that you love new challenges, rather than complaining that you're bored and underused, says Ethun, the president of the Park Avenue Group. In your down time, educate yourself about the company and its industry. "Read corporate information, analyst reports and related news articles," she says. "If your boss accepts your suggestions, it will make you a more valuable employee."

(1)、According to Caitlin Kelly, ______.
A、one should be willing to do some small things B、being a salesman is not as important as being a journalist C、performing your regular duties well is important D、doing a simple job well will bring you a sense of success

A、work is just a stage of our whole life B、the present job doesn't matter to us in a long run C、one should be satisfied with his present situation D、one should look forward instead of complaining about the present situation
(3)、The underlined words "take things off your boss's plate" mean______.
A、draw your boss's attention B、share your boss's burdens C、give your boss useful advice D、ask your boss for a better position
(4)、What is the common view about careers of the people mentioned in this passage?
A、One should start his career from doing a simple job. B、One should improve himself and help others as well. C、One should keep learning new things to improve himself. D、One should pay much attention to the relationship with the boss.

A Blessed Teacher

I remembered Ricky came back to see me ten years after he was in my class. He told me how I had inadvertently(不经意地) changed his life.

Ricky often gazed out the window during one of my ninth-grade history classes early in my teaching career. He was quiet, and his good grades and mild manner were why I did not move him away from the seat by the window.

One day, I leaned over his shoulder and quietly asked, “What are you looking at? You gaze out of this window during every class.”

He said, “I am looking at the band.”

According to Ricky, I said, “If you like the band so much that you have to look at them during this class every day, I want you to go down to Mr. Overby (the band teacher) and tell him that I sent you. Tell him that you want to be in the band. Now turn around and finish working before the bell rings.”

The next day Ricky went to Mr. Overby and told him I had sent him and he wanted to be in the band. He added that he did not know how to play any instrument.

When Ricky visited me ten years later, he thanked me for telling him to go to Mr. Over by because he fell in love with music and discovered his musical talent that had not been tapped. His musical talent resulted in him getting a scholarship to college and earning a degree that now allowed him to provide for his family. Most of all, music had brought great pleasure and satisfaction to his life.

After Ricky thanked me, I pointed out that he did all of the hard work it took to become the wonderfully talented person that he was. I did not make him walk downstairs to join the band, practice his instrument, and get the good grades that led to his college scholarship.

Ricky responded that I could have yelled at him for looking out the window. Instead, I gave him an alternative that changed his whole life.

After he left, I thought about his words. I realized that I was teaching children with every word I said, every action I took, and with every decision I made. Ricky's story raised my teaching bar. Most of all, I have never forgotten the lesson Ricky taught me, a blessed teacher.

No fashion event attracts the world quite like the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. In November 2017, more than 55 models descended upon Shanghai for the lingerie(内衣)maker's first show in Asia. Victoria's Secret cast eight Chinese models for the show, including Liu Wen, double the number that walked in 2016.

Liu Wen, a Chinese fashion model, started her modeline career in 2005 after competing in the reality TV show New Silk Road World Model Contest. Although she did not win the competition, Liu soon began working full-time as a model, eventually becoming a national success story after working with fashion magazines like Vogue and Harper's Bazaar that are popular in China, In 2007, she was signed to the Marilyn agency, and has since walked for Burberry. Givenchy, Chanel, Tom Ford, Proenza Schooler and Tommy Hilfiger.

Liu walked a record 74 shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris for the autumn/ winter 2009 season, followed by 70 for spring/summer 2010, making her the second most-booked catwalk model that year. She has also achieved 15 international Vogue covers to date.

In 2009, Liu became the first woman of Chinese origin to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Liu also participated in the 2010—2012 shows. She returned to the Victoria's Secret runway again in 2016.

In the past, Liu has said that after modeling she might enjoy working as a stylist or, were the opportunity to arise, as an actress-she feels that modeling and acting have much in common, but for now she enjoys modeling and working in the fashion industry. She has stated that she knows that, as a career choice, working as a fashion designer or stylist would be “very hard work”, but she is now more seriously considering becoming a stylist because she would like “to share her fashion style -tomboyish, vintage, and comfortable-with the world”.

No one knows how much money Dr. Lyle Tullis gave away to students. I was his colleague for nearly a decade and I never stopped being amazed at his generosity. Our college has a program of providing cross-cultural experiences for students. Lots of students take advantage of summer experiences oversea. I discovered that no group left for overseas without some of its members receiving financial help from Dr. Tullis.

It wasn't that he made a lot of money. For one thing, he taught in a church-run school. There, his salary (薪水) was half of what those people earned in a tax-supported school.

Other colleagues occasionally complained about the low pay. Not Lyle Tullis. Occasionally some professors would leave our campus for a better-paid position. They told me they did so because, with better pay, they could provide for their families.

The size of Lyle Tullis' paycheck never seemed to be the most important thing to him. I realized that one day when I was thanking him for helping a student, his eyes shone as he said to me, "I've got so much money that I don't know what to do with it. So, I just give it away."

Most people wouldn't have thought that way. Dr. Tullis drove one of the oldest cars on campus. It was even older than almost any of the students' cars. His home, while comfortable, was not fancy at all. But Lyle Tullis lived with the feeling that he had so much money that he needed to give it away.

He was one of the favorite on campus. Cynics (愤世嫉俗) might say he bought fame. But they would misunderstand. Lyle wanted to devote his life, all of it, to helping others.

Must-see in Guangxi

A Hotel in Nature

Chaoranpai International Hotel is only 2 kilometers away from the Lijiang River Source Grand Canyon. By taking both the ecological design and standards of 5-star hotels into account, this hotel has integrated modern services with nature, especially bamboo. The hotel also offers entertainments such as go-carting, cosplay of counter strike (反恐精英), and Chinese-style tea houses. Besides, the mountain itself is like a natural oxygen bar.

Hemlock Spruce—a Living Fossil from the Ice Age

Hemlock spruces (铁杉树) are found at altitudes (海拔) between 1, 600 and 1, 800 meters, with one area recognized as China's only hemlock spruce forest, having as many as 130 of them. Hemlock spruce, along with dawn redwood and ginkgo (银杏), is "a living fossil". Immune (免疫) to all cold-weather risks, it stays green throughout the year.

A Heaven of Animals and Plants

Mao'er Mountain is rich in rare animals and plants. Inhabited (栖息) by 2, 484 species of plants and 345 species of vertebrates, this place can serve as a natural gene bank. And surprisingly, a rare alpine wetland featuring evergreen broad-leaved trees has found a way of surviving in the dwarf forest at a high altitude.

The "Millennium Kiss" Wonder

It's a miracle that two trees have existed together and grown for around a thousand years. It's even more breathtaking to see the two trees gradually getting close to each other and having a little "kiss". What a lovely sight it is in the natural beauty of Mao'er Mountain!
