World famous physicist(物理学家) Stephen Hawking died peacefully at his home in Cambridge on March 14th, 2018.

    Hawking was born in Oxford, England on January 8th, 1942. He went to school in a small city near London. As he himself admitted, he wasn't very serious about studying. He did very little work, he was never top of his class. However, he still achieved good marks. After leaving school, Hawking first went to Oxford University to study physics. Then he went to Cambridge University to study cosmology(宇宙学).

    At the age of 21, Hawking noticed something wrong with him. He had a bad illness that stopped him from moving and talking. He couldn't communicate except by blinking(眨眼). He sat on a wheelchair with a computer by his side. To communicate with others, he moved two fingers to control the computer's mouse. He chose his words from the screen, which were then spoken by a voice synthesizer(音响合成器). "I've had the disease for most of my life," Hawking once said, "Yet it has not stopped me from being successful at my work."

    Although Hawking was a disabled man, he made great achievements. He received many awards and prizes for his work, including the Albert Einstein Award—the highest achievement in physics.

    Hawking worked at Cambridge University as a professor. His story shows that nobody, however bad their situation is, should lose hope. "Life is not fair." he once said, "You just have to do the best you can in your own situation."

We all know it's important to encourage children's interests. But Maryland mom Charmaine Britt took support to a whole new level when she gave her daughter Breana Britt the green light to start her own baking business five years ago—- when "Bree" was just 12 years old. "She kept asking me, so I finally said, 'Well, you can start it online with you baking and me doing deliveries(运送)and we'll see how it goes,'" Charmaine, 38, said.

    Things went well. The now 17-year-old Bree's Sweet Treats had grown from a little online cupcake-and-cookie business became a full-service bakery plus café that delivers to the entire Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. "She makes great baked goods so I just thought it could be a good way to help her become financially responsible," says Charmaine. "I never thought it would become this."

    Bree, on the other hand, said she never had any doubts. "I love doing this," says the junior. "And I just think, if I'm doing something I love, I may as well make money." Bree makes about $1,500 a month.

    "When we opened the store I took some time and thought: Is this what I want?" Bree says. "And it was." She admits there have been rough patches (困难时期). There have been times where we get frustrated（受挫）. Am I willing to give up a bit of time with friends for this?" She says. "But I never regretted having this business. It's been a part of me for so long."

    Charmaine is already thrilled with what her daughter has accomplished. "over the years I've seen her become a leader and I'm so impressed with her dedication (奉献), especially for someone her age." says the mom.

    Once there was a boy who was afraid of the dark. He thought that when it was dark his bedroom was full of monsters. But there came a time when he was too old to be allowed to keep sleeping with the light on.

    The first night he was so frightened that he couldn't fall asleep because he kept thinking about the monsters in his room. So he got up and went over to his wardrobe to get a torch. But when he opened the wardrobe door he came face to face with a monster, and he let out the loudest scream(尖叫)in the world.

    However, the monster didn't jump out to eat him as the boy had always imagined. To the boy's surprise, the monster took a few steps backward, grabbed(抓挠)its hair and started crying！The monster cried for so long that the boy's shock and fear slowly went away. He calmed the monster down as much as he could, and started talking to him, asking him why he was crying and what he was doing there.

    The monster told him he lived in the wardrobe, but almost never went out, because he was afraid of the boy. When the boy asked him why, the monster told him the boy's face with two eyes, ears and a nose seemed to him the strangest thing he'd ever seen. The boy felt exactly the same way about the monster who had a huge head with many mouths and a lot of hair.

    The two of them talked so much that they became quite friendly, and they realized that both of them had bee afraid of the same thing:t he unknown. To lose their fear, they had to get to know each other.

Eating lots of vegetables is good for our health. Different vegetables can help our bodies in different ways. Eating carrots is good for our eyes. Carrots can help us see better at night. Do you want to have strong teeth? If so, you can eat some peas(豌豆). Peas have vitamin(维生素) K in them. Vitamin K is helpful to your teeth. Do you like tomatoes? They look nice. Doctors call tomatoes "healthy vegetables", because they can help you not to get cancer(癌症). They also have a kind of special vitamin PP. It can keep our skin(皮肤) healthy. So it is important to eat some tomatoes. Don't forget about spinach(菠菜). The spinach leaves have vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E. They help our bodies make red blood cells (血红蛋白).Vegetables are very important to us, but we can't only eat vegetables. We also need to eat other kinds of food to keep healthy.

Hansel and Gretel

Gretel heard their stepmother planning to kill her and her brother. But Hansel had a plan to {#blank#}1{#/blank#} himself and his sister. He went to get some white stones before he went to bed that night. The next day, the husband sent the children to the {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Hansel {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the stones as they walked. Later that night, they could see the stones because of the{#blank#}4{#/blank#}moonlight/moon. The stones showed them the way home. After getting home, their{#blank#}5{#/blank#} told them to go to the forest again when they {#blank#}6{#/blank#} up. Hansel wanted to get more stones, but she did not let him go out. The next morning, the husband sent the children to the forest. Hansel had no stones, so he dropped {#blank#}7{#/blank#} of bread. But the birds ate them, so Hansel and Gretel were {#blank#}8{#/blank#} in the forest.  They walked {#blank#}9{#/blank#} they saw a house made of food. Hansel wanted to eat the house, but then they heard the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} of an old woman coming from the house.
