    Several years ago, a television reporter was talking to three of the most important people in America. One was a very rich banker, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}owned(拥有)one of the largest companies in the world, and the third owned many buildings in the center of New York.

    The reporter was {#blank#}2{#/blank#}to them about being important.

    "How do we know if someone is really important?" the reporter asked the banker.

    The banker thought {#blank#}3{#/blank#}a few minutes and then said, "I think anybody who is invited to the White House to meet the President(总统)of the United States is {#blank#}4{#/blank#}important."

    The reporter then turned to the owner of the very large company. "Do you {#blank#}5{#/blank#}with that?" she asked.

    The man{#blank#}6{#/blank#}his head, "No. I think the President invites a lot of people to the White House. You'd only be important if while you were visiting the President, there was a telephone call from the president of another country, and the President of the US said he was too busy to answer it. "

    The reporter turned to the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}man. "Do you think so?"

    "No, I don't." he said. "I don't think that makes the visitor important. That makes the President important. "

    "Then what would make the visitor important?" the reporter and the other two men asked.

    "Oh, I think if the visitor to the White House was talking to the President and the phone rang, and the President picked up the receiver, listened and then said, "it's for you."

    A study was made to find out how {#blank#}2{#/blank#} British people are. About 2000 people took part in this study. The results were{#blank#}3{#/blank#}.

    More than half of the people were so lazy that they would {#blank#}4{#/blank#} for the lift for a long time rather than walk to the second {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

    About one in six people said if the remote control(遥控器) was {#blank#}6{#/blank#}, they would go on watching the same TV show rather than get up.

    More than one third people said they would not {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to catch a bus.

    So it's no wonder that one in six children in UK is fat {#blank#}8{#/blank#} they start school.

    Dr Sarah Dauncey, the medical director of Nuffield Health, said," people need to get healthier, not just for {#blank#}9{#/blank#}, but for their families and friends. If we don't start to get over this{#blank#}10{#/blank#}, a whole generation (一代人)will become too unhealthy to finish their tasks."

    A farmer was put in prison (监狱). One day, he got a letter from his wife. "I am worried about our farm," she wrote. It's time {#blank#}1{#/blank#} potatoes, but I can't do all the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} by myself." The farmer then had an idea. He wrote to his wife, "Don't dig the fields. This is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} my gold (金子) is." A few days later, the farmer got the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} letter. It said, "About ten guards (守卫) came to our farm. It {#blank#}5{#/blank#} they were looking for something. They dug our farm everywhere." The farmer wrote to his wife at once. "Now you can plant our potatoes," he wrote.
