Last Friday, my friend David called me and invited me and our friend Tom to a party in his university. Tom and I are in{#blank#}1{#/blank#} same class. We both wanted to go to the party, but there was a problem--we'd have a final exam on the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (come) Monday.

    “Don't worry. We can come back on Sunday and won't miss the exam,” really{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (want) to go to the party, Tom said. So I decided to go{#blank#}4{#/blank#} him.

    The party was great and we{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (true) enjoyed ourselves there. However, we stayed up late on Saturday night and slept all day on Sunday and didn't make it back to our university until Monday morning. We missed the exam. Then we went to our professor's office and explained{#blank#}6{#/blank#} we missed the exam. We lied that there was a flat tire（车胎漏气）on our way back to the university. Our professor {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (agree) that we could take the exam the following day.

    When it was time to take the exam, Tom and I{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (take )to different rooms. After we opened the test paper, we saw only one question, “Which tire?”

    Neither Tom nor I answered the question. Instead we told our professor the truth. Luckily, he later gave {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (we) the real test paper. And both Tom and I made a{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (decide): never to lie again.

    While I was in Ojai this past weekend, I came across a man {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (sit) at a bench by himself. I smiled and said hello to him. As I passed, he yelled to me {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (come) back. The man said that I was the only one of the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (passer-by) who had treated him in such a kind way. He said he was a reverend (牧市) and asked {#blank#}4{#/blank#} I was from; I said England. At that point, most people would say something like, near London. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}, his response was Birmingham. As {#blank#}6{#/blank#} matter of fact, Birmingham is the largest city near my rural hometown. We carried on a {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (friend) conversation and in the conversation, I {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (inform) that he needed some money to go back home. Not knowing how much money I had, I told him I'd give him whatever was in my purse. He said he prayed that I'd have $47. Then I opened the wallet in my purse and counted out the money. That was {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (exact) $47. I offered the man all of my money. I felt really good for giving help to someone, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} was in trouble.

    Today I share this story with you, because I want to spread as much kindness in the world as I can.

    Once a group of 50 people was attending a seminar. Halfway {#blank#}1{#/blank#} his talk, the speaker stopped and decided  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(create) a group activity. He went around the hall and gave each person a balloon. Each one was asked to write his or her name on the balloon {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(use) a marker pen. Then all the balloons   {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (collect) and put in another room.

    The speaker then led the group to the room full of balloons and asked them to find the balloon that had their name  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (write) on within five minutes.  Everyone was  {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (hurry) searching for their name, bumping into each other, pushing each other around. It was chaos. At the end of the five minutes no one could find their own balloon.

    Now each person was asked to randomly collect {#blank#}7{#/blank#}balloon and give it to the person whose name was on it. Within two minutes everyone had their own balloon. When everyone quieted down, the speaker began to talk, saying that this is exactly {#blank#}8{#/blank#} was happening in our lives.

    We may like to think of {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (us) more important than others, but our happiness sometimes lies in the happiness of other people. Give them their happiness {#blank#}10{#/blank#} you will get your own happiness.

    I got laid off at 53 from a senior management position in a restaurant. And I knew it was going to be hard to find another job in the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (competition) working market. My age put me at {#blank#}2{#/blank#} disadvantage. But I also knew it was time for me{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(realize) my lifelong dream of owning a restaurant.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} was most difficult was that in order to make this happen, I needed to find an{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (exist) café that wasn't doing well. It couldn't be better if its owner was ready to quit his business. With great{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (lucky) I found just what I wanted eight blocks from home. Since I had never financially planned for this day, I had to borrow money from friends as well as {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (relative). I, together with my wife,{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be) ready to start off. We changed the name to Black Dog Coffee, the menu, the recipes and the look of the cafe, and my wife did great job of designing. Eighteen years later, we're still here and doing{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (well) than ever. I'm grateful{#blank#}10{#/blank#}the layoff and the opportunity to pursue my dream.

    Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (let) the angels stay in the guest room. Instead the angels{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(give) a space in the cold basement. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}midnight the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied: Things aren't always what they seem.

After sharing their food, the couple let the angels sleep in their only bed .As {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(usually), the angels found the farmer and his wife in{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (tear). Their only cow died. The younger angel was very angry and asked the older angel, "Why did you not care about the poor family? The first man had everything, yet you watched over his house. The second family had little but was willing to share everything, but you did not help."

    {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (final)the older angel replied. "When we stayed in the basement, I noticed there was gold kept{#blank#}8{#/blank#} the hole . Since the owner was so greedy and unwilling to share his good fortune, I asked God if I could seal(封口) the wall so he wouldn't find it. Then last night as we slept in the farmer's bed, the angel of death(死神) came for his wife. I made up {#blank#}9{#/blank#}mind to help them, so I gave him the cow instead of the farmer's wife. Just remember that things aren't always {#blank#}10{#/blank#}they seem."

    The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the world's{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(long) cross-sea bridge, enters the history of human engineering and connection as a point of pride upon {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(it) opening to traffic at 9 am on Oct.24, 2018.

    One day after the opening was announced at a ceremony{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(hold) in Zhuhai, the bridge's ports in three different administrative regions started serving travelers around-the-clock , opening 24 hours a day, seven days a week.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (ensure) faster boundary crossings for passengers, the Macao and Zhuhai ports jointly use a one-off immigration clearance model,{#blank#}5{#/blank#}allows travelers to queue up only once to finish both exit and entry procedures of the two cities in about 30{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(second).

With the bridge now in service, the traveling time between Zhuhai and Hong Kong International Airport will{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(shorten) from four hours to 45 minutes, and the time between Zhuhai and Hong Kong's Container Terminals will be cut from 3. 5 hours to 75 minutes.
