    Many scientists believe our love of sugar may actually be an addiction (上瘾). When we eat or drink sugary foods, the sugar enters our blood and influences parts of our brain that make us feel good. Then the good feeling goes away, leaving us wanting more. All tasty foods do this, but sugar has a particularly strong effect. In this way, it is in fact addictive, and doctors suggest we all cut down on it.

    "It seems like every time I study an illness, I find my way back to sugar," says scientist Richard Johnson. One-third of adults worldwide have high blood pressure (血压), and up to 347 million have diabetes (糖尿病). Why? "Sugar, we believe, is one of the reasons, if not the main reason," says Johnson.

    Our bodies are designed to survive on very little sugar. Early humans often had very little food, so our bodies learned to keep sugar as fat. In this way, we had energy stored for when there was no food. But today, most people have more than enough. So the very thing that once saved us may now be killing us.

    So what is the solution? It's obvious that we need to eat less sugar. The trouble is, in today's world, it's extremely difficult to avoid. From breakfast cereals to after-dinner desserts, our foods are increasingly filled with it. Some manufacturers (制造商) even use sugar to replace taste in foods that are advertised as low in fat. This may make the food appear as healthier, but large amounts of sugar are often added.

    But there are those who are fighting back against sugar. Many schools are offering more fruit instead of deserts. Other schools are building facilities for students to do exercise. The battle has not yet been lost.

DEALING, WTTH FEELING

DISAPPOINTED

Disappointment happens when something you're hoping or wanting to happen doesn't end up happening. Disappointment is a feeling that you can feel about yourself or toward others. Read below to find out how you can start dealing with feeling disappointed!

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

Disappointment is not a good feeling. It especially hurts because of the excitement and happiness that you were feeling before. It's OK to feel sad and hurt when something you really hope for doesn't happen. Allow yourself to feel, instead of trying to pretend that it doesn't hurt or acting like you don't care. Disappointment will usually disappear if you are honest about how you are feeling.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Talking about feelings is always helpful. When you are disappointed, you share how you are feeling with the person who disappointed you or with a close friend or family member. Sometimes it's helpful for people to know how their actions made you feel so that they try not to do it again. When you share your feelings, others can also help you feel better.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Though you might be disappointed, can you think of any positives in the situation? When you are disappointed, it can be easy to only focus on all the bad things or to think about all the time when you've been let down in the past. Sometimes it can be helpful to say, "I'm disappointed, but at least..." and then think of something positive to say, you can think of all the things you do well. Remember, everyone makes mistakes, nobody is perfect.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

What can you do to keep from feeling so disappointed next time? Sometimes, it can be helpful to have a backup plan because what you're really wishing for may not happen sometimes. For example, if you're supposed to go to the park, but it looks like it might rain, you could say, "I'm really excited about going to the park, but if it rains, I'll be OK." And then you think of other fun things to do instead, just in case!

为每一小段选择合适的副标题,有一个多余选项。

A. Look at the positives

B. Stop thinking of your past

C. Share how you are feeling

D. Prepare a backup plan

E. Accept how you're feeling

根据文章选择正确答案。

What can we know about disappointment from the passage? {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. It's not a bad feeling, but it may hurt us.

B. It happens when something we hope comes true.

C. We may feel disappointed with ourselves as well as others.

D. We may feel disappointed when we are not honest with ourselves.

请从文本中选择适当的单词,完成以下小结。每空仅限一词。

It's easy for us to feel disappointed, but it may not naturally {#blank#}6{#/blank#} unless you try to deal with it. Being {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to your own feeling is the start of facing the problem. If others disappointed you, you need to let them know their {#blank#}8{#/blank#} made you feel like this. Try to think in a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} way when you have the feeling of disappointment about yourself. Don't forget that you may need another possible {#blank#}10{#/blank#}, for a result you don't want.

Thousands of years ago, in the south of ancient China, there lived Shen Nong, a man who had an ox (4) head and a human body. Seeing that local people were suffering from diseases, he built ladders and houses on a high mountain to store hundreds of medical plants. To remember him, people named the place Shennongjia.

The legend(传说 )makes Shennongjia in Hubei an inviting place for tourists. Traveling there is a unique experience, as you can see scenery of the four seasons from different altitudes.

" When the bottom of the mountain is summer, the top is spring and while the foot of a hill is autumn, the top is covered with ice, " local people speak of the special climate of Shennongjia.

Shennongjia is also home to thousands of species of animals and plants. Many endangered animals live there, such as the golden monkey, the clouded leopard and the Asian black bear.

One interesting and mysterious thing about Shennongjia is its legend of wild men. Some people once claimed that they saw big prints or big-foot creatures. Yet so far, scientists haven' proved that it is true and some say they are just bears.

The beautiful place has received a new title. On July 17,2016,$hennongjia Forestry District was added to the World Heritage List as a natural site. China now has 56 world heritage(进产) sites, second only to Italy in the world.
