Courage is often thought to be one of the important spirits everyone needs. Then what is courage? {#blank#}1{#/blank#} One isn't necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential(潜力). Kids build courage as they are growing up.

Many people talk about connections between courage and fear. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} If there is no fear, there is no need for courage. That is to say, courage is the ability to do what makes you feel afraid. Courage doesn't only mean great actions such as saving one's life or taking a big risk. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} For example, we show courage when we raise our hand to answer a hard question during class or try a new sport.

Courage is in everyday choices we make. Can you be kind to the new kid in class? {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Or can you stand up for someone in need? Often, these things don't come with praise, but they need courage.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} When we become brave enough to face failure, we'll be more willing to try new things and try again after we fail. Courage doesn't always shout. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, "I'll try again tomorrow."

Do you like fishing? Have you ever put a fish back into the water after catching it? What made you decide to do this?

One day, two fishermen were fishing in a pond（池塘）. Both of them were looking forward to getting a big catch. The first fisherman caught a big fish in a few minutes. He was very happy. He put the fish in his box. He would cook it in the afternoon. Soon the second fisherman also caught a large fish. However, he threw it back into the pond. Later, he caught many more big fish, only to throw them back into the water again and again. 

The first fisherman was surprised. "Why are you throwing the fish back into the water? They are beautiful and big!" The second fisherman answered, " l know they are big, but I don't have a pan(锅)that is big enough to cook big fish! I'm looking for a small fish that fits my cooking pan.

The first fisherman was surprised by the answer. He told the second fisherman that he could just cut the big fish into small pieces to fit them into the small pan. 

Many of us are just like the second fisherman. We don't think carefully and this sometimes causes us to lose chances. 

What will the schools be; like in-the future? Smart schools will be the schools of the next generation. These future schools will use high technology to help students-learn more quickly, as well as bring convenience to teachers.

A university in Canada has built the first 5G smart-campus（校园）in the country. A high-tech company helped to build a 5G network across the schoolyard. This made it easy for everyone to use the smart system.

In the UK, Stanffordshire University made an AI robot called Beacon. It. is like a personal helper for students and it's very popular at school. The-students can ask it questions and it can answer as a real teacher.

The smart system can be a big help in the classroom. It can change the brightness according to the environment. When it's bright enough, the smart system will turn the lights down a bit. When it's dark inside, it will turn the lights up. In this way, the students can learn in a better condition.

Experts believe that more and more schools will welcome the smart system to better facilitate the school and serve the teachers as well as students. So, is your school also a smart one?

I'm Michael from America. Now I am in China and celebrating the Spring Festival with Li Lei's family. It's New Year's Eve (除夕). What are we doing?

Li Lei's grandfather is making red lanterns. People always hang them at the gate. In China, red means good luck. His parents are getting ready for lunch.

Mobile phones are becoming more and more popular not only with adults but also with students.However，they have also become a problem for middle schools in the last few years.Some children get mobile phones as Christmas or birthday gifts，and more of them ask their parents to buy for them.

Many students like mobile phones because they are so useful and enable them to do a lot of things.Some parents feel it convenient because they can get in touch with（联系）their children.Some teachers think using mobile phones is a distraction （分心的事） to students during school hours and that mobile phones also give them much trouble in their classrooms.Sometimes students send phone messages to cheat（作弊） during exams.A new study says that some teenagers even hurt their fingers because of the over﹣use of mobile phones.They keep using mobile phones for more than ten hours a day.

Many teachers suggest that students should not have phones at school，but if there is a good reason they can leave their phones at the school office.Many people think they understand why parents want their children to have mobile phones，but they agree that schools should let students know when they can use them.In school，they shouldn't be allowed to take their phones to the classrooms.Besides，strict rules about using phones at school should be made.
