When is World Animal Day? It is on October 4th. On that day, children in many countries often go to the zoo to see elephants, monkeys and tigers because they want to learn about animal life in the zoo. Most children like animals and play with them.
The first World Animal Day was On October 4, 1931. World Animal Day is "a day for remembering all animals and the people who love and respect(尊敬)them."
Jenny often goes to London Zoo with her classmates on that day. They go there for an art lesson. Jenny thinks it is good for the students to get out of the classroom and do art and helped them see that they could draw anything anywhere. Many students can do their best work in the lesson. Jenny likes drawing some monkeys. And her classmates also draw their favorite animals.
But now most of them don't need to go out to show their love of animals. They have pets at home. Almost every child has a favorite animal. Mike is one of them. He has two tortoises (乌龟). They are as big as his hand. Every day he changes the water for them. Sometimes Mike will have a walk with them in the park behind his home on weekends. He likes to play with them when he is free. But Lucy has a black cat. She gives it milk to drink and meat to eat from school every day.
The Art of Paper
Chen Zijiang is a paper cutting expert whom I interviewed for my article on Chinese Art. Paper-cutting is something that he learned to do from an early age.
"It is a Chinese folk art with a long history," Mr. Chen told me, "Paper cuts of animals have been found in tombs. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}" He added that by the Southern Song Dynasty, paper-cutting had become an important part of everyday life.
