Memories about Teachers

    Recently we made a survey (调查)and asked a large number of people to tell us about their teachers. Here is what they remembered about their teachers:

    "What teachers do I remember? Well, I remember my first teacher. She was so kind and pretty, and she told us many interesting stories."

    "I remember an English teacher . he always had colored socks: red, green, even orange,"

    "I remember a math teacher. She was always dressed very well. I couldn't stop looking at her. I wanted to be like her."

    "Our chemistry teacher. He was so strict. We were afraid of him. I don't think he liked us."

    "The physics teacher was so boring. He could make us fall asleep very quickly."

    "One year we had a really good Chinese language teacher. He was very patient and told very funny stories. He was popular with all the class. We always worked hard for him. We are his friends,"

    "The P.E. teacher always said I was stupid. I thought teachers should give us encouragement. I am not interested in sports because of him."

    "I had one history teacher who always wore clothes of the same color. In three years I never saw him change."

    "I remember two teachers well. One was my music teacher who was very active, and usually had a loud voice. The other was my computer teacher, who was very serious, but here ally helped me when I had problems at any time."

    The seasons in Australia are not like ours. When it is winter in china, it is summer there. June, July and August are the winter months; September, October and November are spring, the summer is in January, February and December, and March, April and May are the autumn months.

    A very large part of this country has no rain at all. The east coast (海岸地区) has rain all year, and there are no dry months there. The southeast winds blows (吹) here all the year. They bring rain from the sea. There is not much rain on the west side. The southeastern part of Australia has summer rain from the southeast winds. They only blow here in summer.

    The southwestern part of Australia has winter rain. The west winds blow over the southwest in winter only. In the north of Australia, there is no rain in winter. The rain comes in summer. The northwest winds bring it.

    Walking through the winter park, I noticed the trees stand cold and bare. The winter has shaken their yellow leaves to the ground. As I keep walking, a noise in the background is becoming louder and clearer. Now, 100 meters ahead, a group of Chinese women gathered at the side of a path. In the cold breeze of winter, they're moving their arms and legs to a rhythm(节奏).They are, of course, the dancing aunties. It seems that if you go to any public place around China, you're likely to see these dancing aunties. When I first came to China, it was one of the things that surprised me. That's because in Britain, dancing in public is not a cultural habit. You won't see any age group swinging their arms and trapping their feet in a park. Usually, they just take a walk for exercise. Now and again the dancing aunties have hit the headlines. Some people find them annoying. But others respect their rights to dance in public. With most of them middle-aged, they finally have some free time to do whatever they like. There is no more work, and their kids have left. Personally, I like seeing these women enjoying themselves. They remind us of the importance of exercise as we get older. Besides, most of them have raised the whole family. Now it is time for them to have fun and enjoy some peace.

    Have you ever been to Singapore? For many Chinese tourists, this small island in Southeast Asia is a wonderful place to take a holiday. On the one hand, more than seventy-five percent of population are of Chinese descent, so you can simply speak Mandarin most of the time. On the other hand, Singapore is an English-speaking country.

    When the ancient Chinese paid their first visit here in the early 14^th century, it was still a small seaside city. Later in the 1820s, the British Empire claimed it as a colony (殖民地). Singapore hasn't been an independent country until 1965. From then on, it has become an important port of trade and business between different countries.

One great thing about Singapore is that the temperature is almost the same all year round. It seldom drops below 20℃. It's warm and wet the whole year. This is because it is so close to the equator (赤道). So you can choose to go whenever you like—spring, summer, autumn or winter! And, of course, it's not too far from China. For those who enjoy the sun and the beach, Singapore is an ideal place.

    On the northeast coast of Singapore, Changi Village is far from the noise of central Singapore. The buildings are modern, but there's still a village terminal (晚期的) atmosphere. There's a small, attractive seaside camp site across the Changi Creek from the bus terminal, where you can watch the planes gliding into Changi airport while relaxing on the sand.

    Most large cities have zoos, but have you ever been to a zoo at night? Singapore has a night zoo called the "Night Safari". It might seem strange to go to a zoo when it's dark. But if you've ever been to a zoo during the daytime, you might understand why Night Safari is so special. A lot of animals only wake up when it goes dark at night, so this is the best time to watch them. At the Night Safari, you can watch these animals in more natural environment than a normal zoo.

    To be healthy and happy is important for each of us. Do you want to improve(改善)your health and feel better? Here are some ways.

    Eat whole foods. Eat some healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and a little meat. If you have a healthy eating habit, you'll be happier.

    Exercise. Take up a sport you really like. If you want to keep healthy, try to exercise for 30 minutes a day, twice or three times a week．

    Get enough sleep. It is best to get eight hours' sleep a day. A cup of milk before sleeping may help you get a good sleep.

    Keep yourself busy. This is good because it stops you from having bad habits. To keep yourself busy, you can walk around the house, spend time with your pets, do a sport, or do a hobby you enjoy.

    Spend time with your friends. Spend time and have fun with them. Talk with them, but you shouldn't talk about anything bad. You should stay with the people who are healthy and happy.
