Last month, we went for a school trip to a group of islands called Langkawi. It was exciting at first, but by the end of the day, I'd say it was a trip full of pain.

We got up early and jumped onto the boats. As the engine(引擎) of the boats worked, snow-white bubbles came out from below the boats, and the breezes (微风)touched our faces.

The first island we arrived at was called the Island of the Pregnant Maiden. We were allowed into the water for about half an hour, and I had fun playing with my classmates in the water. All was fine until one of my water shoes fell into the lake.

So I had to do the rest of the trip with only one shoe on.

When we first walked through the forest, I thought it was a nice walk. But with only one shoe, my foot came across either cold shards (玻璃碎片) or hot stones along the way. As the time went on, the land became increasingly jagged (凹凸不平的). I winced (皱起脸) with every step I took. But then something magical happened-I found a pretty seashell! I felt like I had found gold and all the pain was worth it.

The trip was a valuable experience-the beautiful sea views and the beach treasure hunt were wonderful moments for me. I've learnt an important lesson from that day, which is not to focus on the bad memories, but to remember the cheerful feelings and value them.

Just outside a village, there was a pretty but small Fir tree. He lived in a very beautiful forest with a lot of sunshine and fresh air. However, he didn't care about that, and always wished for something more interesting instead of enjoying the simple things in his life. 

One day, the largest trees were cut down. They would be made into masts. The Fir tree thought happily, "I want to be a mast. It seems so cool. "

The air and the sunshine heard the tree and said, "Don't wish for another life. Be happy now. You have warm sunlight. You have a health y trunk. "But the tree did not understand them.

This year, some young trees were cut down. They would live in a warm room and were decorated(装饰) with so many colors and lights. The Fir tree was very interested in this and really wanted to be like that. 

Again, the sunlight and the air said to the tree, "Do not be so silly. Your life in the forest is the best. Be happy with that. "But the tree didn't listen to them.

Finally, the woodcutters came to cut down the Fir tree and put him into a large room. 

On Christmas Day, many servants came in. They decorated the tree. On its top, there was a large golden star. Later, all people came in and sang Christmas carols together. The tree enjoyed watching all of this. 

"This is all for me!"thought the tree, "I will live my life in this warm room. The sunlight and the air were all wrong. "He felt very good about his future.

However, the next morning, some servants came into the room. They put him into a dark room. He was forgotten. 

As many lonely nights passed, the door to that dark room finally opened. Two servants came in and took the tree outside. 

"This is wonderful. "thought the tree. "My new life is beginning. "He relaxed in the sunlight. Just then, he discovered something terrible. His branches were all yellow. They were weak.

At that time. Some children were running around the garden They cned, "Look! The Christmas true is old and ugly. But it still has the yellow star on top of it. "One of the children took the star from the tree. Now, there was nothing beautiful about the tree anymore.

Soon, a gardener came with an axe. He chopped the poor Fir tree into pieces. Then, he placed each piece into a fire. The poor tree burned in the flames. As he burned, he could see the children playing. They were playing with his golden star. But it was too late for regrets now.

My parents usually celebrate a special day by enjoying a special kind of wine called Canadian ice wine.

My mother once told me the story of ice wine. To make it. people must freeze grapes on the vine. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Sometimes. a great new product is invented by accident. And that's exactly how we got ice wine.

In the 1700s in Germany, a man was away from his farm in autumn. The weather suddenly turned cold and his grapes froze when he came back. How terrible! Anyway, the man tasted the grapes. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Then, he decided to use these grapes to make some wine. Guess what? {#blank#}3{#/blank#} For two centuries, Germany was the only place where ice wine was made.

Then, a Canadian got the idea that this kind of wine could be produced in Canada, After all, the winters are cold in Canada, and that's the main requirement for making ice wine. After hard work, some grap e farmers found the best process. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

The story of ice wine got me thinking. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} It's really hard to imagine the world without penicillin and the microwave. Penicillin has saved millions of lives. And the microwave has certainly changed the way we cook.

Life is sometimes like that. When we look for one thing, something even better comes along … if we keep our eyes and minds open.

 Billy always loved blueberries. They were his favorite fruit. Today he was going to make juice with his uncle. His uncle liked to make juice out of everything. He made carrot juice, apple juice, vegetable juice, and more juices. He had never made blueberry juice before though!

 First, Billy and his uncle went to a blueberry farm. They were each given a basket. They picked for an hour and got several pounds. It was hard work picking the little berries from the trees. Now Billy understood why they were expensive in the store. 

 Next, they had to wash the fruit. Some of them still had leaves. Those had to be pulled off. Then the bad berries had to be thrown away. They washed the berries and made them air-dry. 

 After that, they pushed the blueberries through a strainer (过滤器). The strainer caught most of the seeds and skins, and only left a small glass of dark purple juice to them. 

 When they tasted the juice, it wasn't very sweet. Billy's uncle didn't want to add white sugar (糖) to the juice. It was better to use a naturally sweet juice, like apple juice, pear juice, or grape juice. They use grape juice as a sweetener, because grapes had a similar color to the blueberries. 

 Finally, they could drink it. It was a lot of work to make juice, but it sure was refreshing!

I'm Rita. My grandmother is 80 years old. That's really old! We have a birthday party for her every year. All my uncles and aunts come to the party. Every time, my aunt Laura makes a big cake with many candles on it. We sing the birthday song and eat the cake together.

Grandma is very old, but she is doing well. Her ears are not good, but she can see very well. Watering flowers is her favorite. She often says the flowers are like her children, and she likes watching them grow. She also works on the farm every day. She gives us a lot of vegetables. We take photos when eating them, because seeing us eat her vegetables makes her happy.

I hope I live to be very old and have a big family. I want to have a birthday party every year and grow flowers and vegetables, too, just like my grandmother!
