In the town of Lampang in northern Thailand, there is an unusual group of musicians. They play many different k{#blank#}1{#/blank#} of music—everything from traditional Thai songs to music by Beethoven. Both children and adults love this group. What makes them so p{#blank#}2{#/blank#} ? Is it their music? Their looks? Yes, it's both of the things, but it's a{#blank#}3{#/blank#} something else: they're elephants.
These musical elephants started at the TECC(泰国大象保护中心)in Lampang. The TECC protects elephants. It teaches people to understand and love them. And, like many zoos {#blank#}4{#/blank#} the world, the TECC encourages elephants to paint.
Richard Lair w{#blank#}5{#/blank#}  for the TECC. He loves his job there and knows a lot about elephants. He says some of the animals' paintings are very good. But, in fact, elephants h{#blank#}6{#/blank#}  better than they see. And so he had an idea: if elephants are s{#blank#}7{#/blank#} and they have good hearing, maybe they can play music. To test his idea, Lair and a friend started the Thai Elephant Orchestra. During a performance(表演), the elephants play a number of i{#blank#}8{#/blank#} including the drums and the xylophone(木琴).
But can elephants really make music properly? Yes, says Lair. They are very creative. Human e{#blank#}9{#/blank#}the animals to play, but the elephants make their own songs; they don't just copy their trainers {#blank#}10{#/blank#} other people. There are now CDs of the group's music which make money for the TECC. And the music these artists create is pretty amazing.

Before Father's Day, I found my father was unhappy because he was out of work. I decided to cheer him up by {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (buy) him a special Father's Day gift.

One day after school, I rode to the Amy's Store which was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (know) for fashions and styles. I told Amy that I was looking {#blank#}3{#/blank#} a Father's Day present.

"Do you think he'd like a watch?" she asked and took out a Swiss watch {#blank#}4{#/blank#} looked nice. I told her that my father would like it.

"How much money do you have?" she asked.

    "Twelve dollars," I replied.

"You're so {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (luck)," she told me. "It's only $11. You still have $1 for the card." She packed the watch {#blank#}6{#/blank#} thanked me for my business. Then I rode off home {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (quick) with the gift under my arm.

When my father opened the gift, he asked, "Where did you get it?"

"I bought it at the Amy's Store. It cost me $11," I said. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} surprised my father looked!

Many years later, I learned that the watch was worth several hundred dollars, and I appreciated

(感激) how wonderful Amy had been to me. I always {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (regret) that I never had a chance to thank her.

"What really amazes me to this day... my daughter," My father said. "Letting you have the watch for eleven dollars was unbelievable enough. But the fact that she let you leave the store with a dollar for the card was a touch of {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (kind). I'll never forget it."

I packed, and was ready to leave for my two-day trip. I had been busy with my work. I had made p{#blank#}1{#/blank#} for the trip for the last few days, and I expected to get r{#blank#}2{#/blank#} for several days.

As I got into the car to leave, my mind flew to my kids.

How to keep in touch with your kids when you're busy or far away is a dilemma(两难的问题) many fathers have. Men like to focus special attention on one thing for a long p{#blank#}3{#/blank#}, but this can lead to trouble. Moving from work to family isn't always an easy thing. And if you don't s{#blank#}4{#/blank#} your kids that you're thinking about them, they may think that you don't care.

As I started down the road, I suddenly stopped to t{#blank#}5{#/blank#} back to my house and wrote a short message on a c{#blank#}6{#/blank#} of cards to each of my children. I put each in a "secret" place where I knew they'd find it.

When I called the next night, they both said e{#blank#}7{#/blank#}, "Daddy, I got your card. When did you do that?"

I was moved when I heard these words. What I had never thought was that a small thing had a big influence on my kids. It proved(证明) that they were in my heart. And distance (距离) couldn't s{#blank#}8{#/blank#} them from their father. To my satisfaction, they feel "love" of their father.

This v{#blank#}9{#/blank#} experience encouraged me to continue to do the small things to be a responsible father.

As fathers get much busier and have to work longer hours, they usually pay l{#blank#}10{#/blank#} attention to the small things. Don't miss the good chances to let your kids see how important they are.

Take a moment to do a small thing for your kids. It won't s {#blank#}11{#/blank#} small to them.
