I wonder {#blank#}1{#/blank#} it is because I haven't been able to be outdoors for so long {#blank#}2{#/blank#} I have grown so crazy about everything to do with nature. I can well remember that there was a time {#blank#}3{#/blank#} a deep blue sky, the song of the birds, moonlight and flowers could never have kept {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(myself) spellbound. That {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(change) since I was there. For example, one evening when it was so warm, I stayed awake {#blank#}6{#/blank#} purpose until half past eleven in order {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(have) a good look at the moon by myself. But as the moon gave for too much light, I didn't dare open a window. Another time five months ago, I happened to be upstairs until the window had to {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(shut). The dark, rainy evening, the wind, the thundering clouds held me {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(entire) in their power; it was the first time in a year and a half that I {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(see) the night face to face.

    When kids in parts of the world want to play, they often make soccer balls out of trash tied together with string. “{#blank#}1{#/blank#} the areas used for playing fields are often rough and rocky, millions of real balls go flat (变瘪){#blank#}2{#/blank#} 24 hours,” says Tim Jahnigen, a California businessman. Determined to solve this problem,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} created an indestructible ball called the One World Futbol.

    The ball is made of {#blank#}4{#/blank#} special material, ethylene-vinyl acetate foam. It's lightweight, it's flexible, and—{#blank#}5{#/blank#} important—it holds its shape.

    The One World Futbol needs no pump {#blank#}6{#/blank#} won't wear out, even on rough surfaces. When tested,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} withstood (经受住) being crushed by a car, and even being chewed on by a lion.

    Although it costs more to produce {#blank#}8{#/blank#} a typical soccer ball, Jahnigen estimates the One World Futbol can last 30 years. So far, it's been given to kids in 143 countries. 

    There once lived a boy named Woo Sing, whose father {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (bring) home a mirror. Woo Sing had never seen one before. So when he saw it for the first time, he didn't understand {#blank#}2{#/blank#} it was, but though he saw another boy, which made him very happy, for he thought the boy {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (come) to play with him. He spoke to the stranger in a very {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (friend) way, but received no reply. He laughed and waved at the boy, who did exactly the same thing. Then he thought, “I'll go closer. It may be that he doesn't hear me.” But when he began to walk, the other boy imitated (模仿) him. Woo Sing stopped  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (think) about these strange actions, saying to himself, “This boy is fooling me. He does everything that I do.” And the more he thought about it, the{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(angry) he became and soon he noticed the boy became angry too. So Woo Sing {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (strike) the boy in the glass, but he only hurt his own hand and went {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (cry) to his father, who said, “The boy you saw was{#blank#}9{#/blank#}image. This should teach you an important lesson, my son. You should never show your anger to others. Now remember that in real life when you strike{#blank#}10{#/blank#} any cause you'll hurt yourself most of all.”

    One night, a mother and her daughter went out for dinner together. The mother was a heavy smoker, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(make) her daughter feel very upset and worried. She would often tell her mother that smoking was very bad {#blank#}2{#/blank#}her health. But her mother wouldn't listen and refused to stop smoking.

    However, at {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(they) dinner that night, she noticed that her mother didn't have a single cigarette. As a matter of fact, she realized that she hadn't seen her mother smoke for {#blank#}4{#/blank#} whole day.

    “I can see that you're not smoking at all today. Are you trying {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(give) up smoking?” the daughter asked hopefully.

    The mother answered, “No, I'm just feeling a little bit sick right now. I don't smoke {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(cigarette) when I'm sick, because if I do, it takes me {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(long) to get better.”

    The daughter{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(reply), “Well, I guess you would{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(probable) live a better life {#blank#}10{#/blank#}you got sick a bit more often!”

    Elias was born in the 20th century when the black people were put in to a miserable position {#blank#}1{#/blank#}they had no rights at all. Elias, like most black people in South Africa, had little {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(educate)and was worried {#blank#}3{#/blank#} whether he would become out of work. This was the very reason {#blank#}4{#/blank#} he met Mandela. Mandela always encouraged him not to lose heart.

    At that time, black people had no rights of {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (vote). They couldn't get jobs they wanted. The parts of town in which they had to live were decided by white people. They were sent to the poor areas {#blank#}6{#/blank#}no one could grow food.

    Nelson Mandela organized the ANC Youth League to fight against the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(govern). They first broke the law in a {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (peace) way.

    When it was not allowed, they decided to answer violence with violence. So Elias joined the ANC Youth League, helping Nelson Mandela blow up some government {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (build). Elias {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (strong) believed what he did would help them achieve their dream of making black and white people equal.

    Iceland is a land of volcanoes. Nowhere is {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（evident） than on the Westman Islands off the southern coast of Iceland. Here, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（century） of volcanic eruptions formed many eye-catching sea cliffs （悬崖）, among {#blank#}3{#/blank#} one stands out: A part of the volcano-formed coast on Heimaey looks exactly like the head of a large elephant {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（stick）its trunk in the water.

    In fact, it looks so much like an elephant that many people think it must have been shaped by humans. That is not {#blank#}5{#/blank#} case, however. The elephant's realistic {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（appear）is, at least partially, due to the fact that the cliff {#blank#}7{#/blank#}（consist）of a special rock. The rock gives the figure "skin" that looks wrinkled and gray, just like that of a real elephant.

    The most common theory is that the rock formations came from the Eldfell Volcano, which {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（erupt）many times since the 1940s.

    In spite of the strong resemblance to an elephant, some people {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（actual）see something different when they look at the rock formation. They see the fictional character Cthulhu, a sea beast.

    Whether you see an elephant {#blank#}10{#/blank#} a fictional beast, as one of many attractions on Heimaey, the rock does draw curious sightseers.
