阅读下列材料,从A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳答案。

Thanks to the Earth, we have fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink and warm sunshine to enjoy. But it seems that we haven't realized that the Earth is facing many environmental challenges and it is getting "sick".

Scientists say that of all the environmental challenges, climate (气候) change is the biggest one. The temperature on the Earth has risen by more than 0. 5C since 1992. Cities like Singapore and Tokyo that are at low altitudes (海拔) may be covered by the ocean (海洋) in the future.

But this is not the only problem people are facing. Since 1992, the human population has grown by 2 billion, while the population of all other animals has dropped by nearly 30 percent. At the same time, water pollution has become serious. We are also facing problems like light pollution, noise pollution and some other pollution.

However, we have made some progress in saving the Earth. For example, we stop using harmful materials to make the hole in the ozone layer (臭氧层) smaller to slow the rise of the temperature. We do a lot of work to help the animals in danger, or more than two-thirds of the worlds wild animals may disappear (消失) by the end of 2020.

"The progress shows that we can make good changes when we act wisely, "scientists say, "we must take action to protect the environment, or it will be worse."

(1)、In the passage, the writer mentions many good things the Earth brings us EXCEPT ________.
A、fresh air B、clean water C、rich land D、warm sunshine
(2)、According to scientists ________ is the most serious environmental challenge.
A、climate change B、water pollution C、light pollution D、noise pollution
(3)、Which of the following is TRUE?
A、People on the earth did nothing to save the earth. B、Climate change is the only problem people meet. C、People on the earth only face three kinds of pollution. D、The environment will get worse if we don't take action.
(4)、If we divide the passage into three parts, which of the following is the best?

(①=Para. (自然段)1 ②=Para. 2  ③=Para. 3  ④=Para. 4 ⑤=Para. 5)

A、①②; ③; ④⑤ B、①②; ③④; ⑤ C、①; ②③④; ⑤ D、①; ②③; ④⑤

Scientists in Britain and the United States have made a new kind of enzyme (酵素) that eats plastics (塑料). With its help, plastics can be turned into smaller parts and go away quickly. Scientists believe that, in the future, it could solve the problem of plastic pollution.
The enzyme is able to break down PET, a form of plastic. PET was first made in the 1940s and is now widely used to make plastic bottles. It can remain in the environment for many years and pollute large areas of land and water. So it has always been a headache to deal with the waste from PET and other plastics.
The researchers made the discovery (发现) while examining the structure of a natural enzyme in Japan. They found that the natural enzyme was helping to break down PET plastics. So, they decided to make small changes to the enzyme by adding some amino acids (氨基酸). It made the natural enzyme's plastic-eating abilities work faster and better.
John McGeehan, one of the lead researchers, said, “We've made an improved enzyme. It's better than the natural one. And we are trying to make more improvements to it.” He went on, “The enzyme is not harmful to humans or animals, and it is friendly to the environment. So we are considering putting it into wider use.”
The team is now trying to make the enzyme break down PET in large quantities (大量地). “We'll see that the plastic pollution may be stopped with this technology. However, there is still a long way to go,” John McGeehan added.
阅读下列短文,从下面每小题的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Sheridan is a town in Indiana, USA. There are lots of trees near the public schools in the town. Their leaves turn sunlight into energy.

In Sheridan, the Sun not just provides energy for plants. It keeps schools running, too. The schools use solar panels(太阳能电池板) to turn sunlight into energy.

The science behind solar energy is not new. But Sheridan Community Schools is the first school district (学区) in Indiana to be completely solar-powered. The district finished putting in solar panels for all three of its schools in 2016. Some of the panels can turn to follow the Sun across the sky.

In 2008, fewer than 1,000 schools used solar power. By 2014, there were 3,727 schools with solar panels in the USA. These numbers come from a report by The Solar Foundation. Roxie Brown, a programme director there, said that the number of schools with solar panels has continued to go up since 2014.

Solar energy has some advantages over other energy sources (来源). Sunlight is a renewable source, which means it won't run out. Solar panels don't harm the environment. Also, sunlight is free. So by using solar power, schools can save money on energy costs. Brown thinks more schools should run on solar energy. "The Sun is Earth's energy source," she says. "We're trying to make it the energy source for our houses, cars and schools, too."

But using solar energy isn't always easy. Solar panels can be expensive to put in. The panels also take up space. But for many schools, going solar is worth it.
