阅读下列材料,从A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳答案。

Thanks to the Earth, we have fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink and warm sunshine to enjoy. But it seems that we haven't realized that the Earth is facing many environmental challenges and it is getting "sick".

Scientists say that of all the environmental challenges, climate (气候) change is the biggest one. The temperature on the Earth has risen by more than 0. 5C since 1992. Cities like Singapore and Tokyo that are at low altitudes (海拔) may be covered by the ocean (海洋) in the future.

But this is not the only problem people are facing. Since 1992, the human population has grown by 2 billion, while the population of all other animals has dropped by nearly 30 percent. At the same time, water pollution has become serious. We are also facing problems like light pollution, noise pollution and some other pollution.

However, we have made some progress in saving the Earth. For example, we stop using harmful materials to make the hole in the ozone layer (臭氧层) smaller to slow the rise of the temperature. We do a lot of work to help the animals in danger, or more than two-thirds of the worlds wild animals may disappear (消失) by the end of 2020.

"The progress shows that we can make good changes when we act wisely, "scientists say, "we must take action to protect the environment, or it will be worse."

(1)、In the passage, the writer mentions many good things the Earth brings us EXCEPT ________.
A、fresh air B、clean water C、rich land D、warm sunshine
(2)、According to scientists ________ is the most serious environmental challenge.
A、climate change B、water pollution C、light pollution D、noise pollution
(3)、Which of the following is TRUE?
A、People on the earth did nothing to save the earth. B、Climate change is the only problem people meet. C、People on the earth only face three kinds of pollution. D、The environment will get worse if we don't take action.
(4)、If we divide the passage into three parts, which of the following is the best?

(①=Para. (自然段)1 ②=Para. 2  ③=Para. 3  ④=Para. 4 ⑤=Para. 5)

A、①②; ③; ④⑤ B、①②; ③④; ⑤ C、①; ②③④; ⑤ D、①; ②③; ④⑤

Happiness is important for everyone. Most people want to be happy but few know how to find happiness. Money and success don't bring lasting happiness. Happiness depends on ourselves. In other words, we make our own happiness.
Some people believe that if they are wealthy, they will be able to do anything they want, which means happiness. On the other hand, some people believe that holding a high position in the government is happiness. In this way, you have not only money, but also many other things which can't be bought by money. However, other people believe that having lots of money is not happiness, nor is holding a high position in the government. These people value(重视) their beliefs, or their intelligence, or their health. They think these can make them happy.
Here are a few ways to help you be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future, for example, getting into college or getting a good job, that we don't enjoy the present. You should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have close friends usually enjoy happier and healthier lives.
The second secret of happiness is to be active. Many people go dancing or play sports. People can forget about their problems and only think about the activities.
Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. According to studies, people feel good when they volunteer their time to do many meaningful things for other people. If you want to feel happier, do something nice for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to get food for an old neighbor, or simply help around the house.
Now maybe you know how to find happiness!

For many years scientists have said that the earth is getting warmer. Now they have found something new-hot cities! In the southern US, they have found that cities become very hot in summer. For example, the city of Atlanta in Georgia has roof(屋顶) temperature of up to 50oC while it is 27℃ in the streets! At night, the outside of buildings stays so hot that the heat of the city causes storms over the city!
China also has the same kind of problems. Every year more farmland is used for factories or offices. More housing is needed, too. As people become richer, they buy more cars. New roads are needed and new car parks are built in the city centers. This all makes cities hotter.
It isn't easy to change the situation. City planners say that we should plant more trees in the middle of cities. Every new street should have trees on both sides, they say. Trees make the temperature lower, so we should have more trees in our parks and squares. We should also paint our roofs white. If we do this, they do not become so hot. Every roof in a hot and sunny country should have solar(太阳的) roof panels. The electricity from these can be used to run the air conditioners (空调)in the buildings.
People continue to cut down forests around the cities. This makes the problem worse. Cities are growing faster and faster. By the year 2025, four fifths(五分之四) of the population will be living in cities. If we go on like this, there will not be enough farmland to feed everyone in the world

Most people hope to have a memory which helps them succeed in study, work and life. Can memory be improved? Luckily, hundreds of studies in the past 50 years have already given us a definite answer.

A healthy lifestyle keeps our brain young and memory sharp. First of all, it is necessary to have a healthy diet. Eating more food rich in B vitamins and vitamin E, such as vegetables and lean meat, helps you have a better memory. Doing exercise can keep your brain alive, too. Proper exercise provides much oxygen for the brain. Running, riding a bike, swimming and even walking two or three times a week are helpful. Moreover, getting enough sleep is important. Only when your brain gets a good rest, can it work well. The healthier your lifestyle is, the better your memory will become. But do not expect a sudden change-it takes a long time to make a difference.

Memory stills help you remember things better. The following three are the most widely used. Chunking is a way of remembering a piece of information by cutting it into small ones. For example, to memorize a ten-digit telephone number 2127983630, you can divide the digits into three groups: first 212, then 798, and lastly 3630. This method is far more effective than remembering a string of 10 digits. Organization means organizing information into groups of the same kind. For example, trees, grass and flowers are plants; tigers, pandas, horses and cows are animals. Imagery is remembering newly learnt information by using your imagination and connecting it with something that you are familiar with.

However, memory skills will hardly work if you don't understand the information. What's more, only a regular review can make the memory last long. That is why students are always advised to go over what they have learnt and then use it as regularly as possible.

Human brains are like muscles that needs nutrients and exercise to become stronger. If you make a few lifestyle changes and try some memory skills, you can certainly improve your memory.

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon. The space suit Armstrong wore on his lunar mission has come to symbolize courage and human achievement. In 1971, the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum(NASM), in Washington, D.C., acquired (获得) Armstrong's suit. It stood proudly on display for visitors to admire, until there were changes in the suit's appearance. "Over time, the suit started to show signs of deterioration," Lisa Young said. Young is an objects conservator (文物修复员) at NASM. It is her job to preserve(维护)historical and cultural objects.

"Plastics are tricky to conserve," Young says. They tend to degrade (降解)over time. Neoprene is one type of plastic in Armstrong's suit. The material can turn brittle and break into tiny pieces. This would ruin the space suit. NASM, seeking ways to preserve this historical treasure, removed it from display in 2006.

What causes plastic to degrade in the first place? "Many things," Odile Madden says. Madden is a scientist in California. She explains that sunlight, water, humidity, and dust can cause plastics to degrade. "Some plastics will break down no matter what we do," Madden says.

Yet history can still be saved. Scientists have found that storing plastics in cooler temperatures, with lower humidity levels, can slow degradation. Young says Armstrong's suit is currently in storage at a temperature of 63°F and a lower relative humidity of 30%. These conditions will be maintained when Armstrong's suit returns to a museum display case in time for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

Plastic degradation affects art, too. Artist Claes Oldenburg created False Food Selection in 1966.It consists of plastic food displayed in a wooden box. The plastic food used to look real. Now, some of it has flattened and yellowed. Georgina Rayner is a conservation scientist at Harvard Art Museums, in Cambridge. She says the artwork's wooden box produces an acidic (酸的) gas that eats away at the plastic. This speeds up the degradation process. But Rayner is motivated to conserve this artwork and others like it. "Plastics are a part of our history," she says. "It's important to preserve them so that future generations can understand the journey we've taken."
