Everyone can benefit from better communication. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Of course, we know that isn't true, but this shouldn't stop you improving your communication skills. Here are a few tips to help you become a better communicator.

    Verbal (口头的) language is only one part of the communication — body language is another. If you ever wanted to know how to tell if someone is lying, body language is the answer. Your body language tells other people what you aren't verbally saying, such as if you are anxious, confident, confused, angry or any other type of emotion or state of mind. If you become great at reading body language, it will help you become a better communicator.

    Listen to others

    Before you ever begin to speak, take a minute to see if anyone else has something to say.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Listening to others has many benefits, such as allowing you to learn new things or get information that you may later need.

    Think before you speak

    Your parents probably told you this as a child, but many people still do not take a moment to think about the words they are about to say.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}There is a time and place for all words and tones of voice.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}You will have to practice your communication skills before you can ever become an excellent communicator.

A. This is not an overnight thing.

B. Singing a song for them is good.

C. Become fluent in body language.

D. Don't try to make the conversation go your way.

E. You should decide what you want to get in a conversation before you choose your words.

F. If you are too anxious, you can't look for the right body language to use in communication.

G. In fact, if everybody were excellent communicators, the world would be a much better place.

    Many students want to learn a foreign language well, but what must they do? In my opinion, in order to know a foreign language thoroughly, four things are necessary{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Secondly, we must be able to speak it ourselves correctly with confidence and without hesitation. Thirdly, we must be able to read the language, and fourthly, we must be able to write it{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    There is no easy way to success in language learning. A good memory is a great help{#blank#}3{#/blank#}It is not much use learning by heart long lists of words and their meanings, studying the dictionary and so on.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}If we are satisfied with only a few rules we have memorized, we are not really learning the language. “Learn through use”is a good piece of advice for those who are studying a new language. Practice is important{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. We must learn by using the language.

B. To master a foreign language is very important.

C. Firstly, we must understand the language when we hear it spoken.

D. We must be able to make sentences that are grammatically correct.

E. We must study how we have to do to learn a foreign language.

F. But it is not enough only to memorize rules from a grammar book.

G. We must practise speaking and writing the language whenever we can.

    Generation Y is known as the generation that was born in the 1980s and 1990s, although experts do not agree on when this time started. The people who make up Generation Y are often the children of baby boomers（生育高峰中出生的人）.

    The millennium（千禧年）generation, as it is often called, has grown up with new technology and can use it in their jobs much better than the older generation can. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} They like to communicate via text messaging, Facebook and other online technology. They have high expectations and seek new challenges. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    Generation Y youths have a different attitude towards work, which is different from that of their parents or grandparents. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} They do not live to work but they work to live.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} They want jobs that are flexible, not always having work from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m.. They prefer working from their homes and taking a day or two off to spend with their family when the weather is fine.

    While baby boomers worked hard, grew up with a company and stayed there for the rest of their lives, Generation Y workers do not want to do the same thing during their whole life. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} That means if you don't like what you do then do something else.

A. They want to spend most of their time at home.

B. They expect to change jobs at least a few times.

C. The new generation can be described as energetic.

D. Besides, they often dare to raise questions when confused.

E. The Internet, cell phones, iPads are normal for this generation.

F. Young people expect a different type of workplace than their parents had.

G. They don't want to work as hard as their parents but spend their life in a meaningful way.

    Do you long to have garden-fresh vegetables on your plate every night, or to gaze out your window at rows of colorful flowers? No matter how large or small your yard might be, you can craft a garden plan to fit your needs.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    Decide what type of garden to grow. What purpose do you want your garden to serve? {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Others are more ornamental(装饰用的)in purpose, serving to beautify your property and provide a pleasing sight to people passing by.

    Decide what specific plants to include in your garden. Find out what grows well in your region garden zone.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} If you live in a place with mild winters and hot summers, you may have trouble growing plants that require a cold snap to grow properly. As you find out more about your options, make a list of the plants you want to buy and the best time of year to plant them.

    Choose a spot for your garden. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} The location you choose should both help the garden serve the function you want it to have and also be in a spot that is likely to grow strong, healthy plants.

    Make a garden deign. Draw an outline of your garden or yard space. Map out different options where you want to plant various items in the location you chose.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} Make sure the ones that need shade will be planted in shade, and the ones that need full sun are in an area that isn't east in shadows during the day.

    Body language provides a lot of information on what other people are thinking. A research has shown that 55% of communication comes from body language. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Next time you're in a meeting, watch for these cues(暗示):

    Real smiles crinkle (使起皱纹) the eyes. When it comes to smiling, the mouth can lie but the eyes can't. Real smiles reach the eyes, crinkling the skin to create crow's feet around them. People often smile to hide what they're really thinking and feeling, so the next time you want to know if someone's smile is real, look for crinkles at the corners of their eyes. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Have you ever been in a meeting with someone and noticed that every time you cross or uncross your legs, they do the same? Or perhaps they lean their head the same way as yours when you're talking? That's actually a good sign. It means that the conversation is going well and that the other party accepts your message.

    Eyes that lie. Most of us believe that it's difficult to hold someone's gaze (凝视) when they're lying. But that's such common knowledge that people will often try to hold eye contact, hoping to cover up the fact that they're lying. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} If you're talking with someone whose gaze is making you uncomfortable, something is up and they might be lying to you.

    Even if you can't read a person's exact thoughts, you can learn a lot from their body language.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. Copying your body language is a good thing.

B. If they aren't there, that smile is hiding something.

C. Good sings lead to good conversations in a meeting.

D. You'll have to find out how long they have looked at you.

E. Learning how to understand that 55% can give you a lot of help.

G. The problem is that most of them will hold eye contact until it feels uncomfortable.

    Parents usually teach their children how to cross the street safely, by looking both ways for cars. But do they also teach them to put away their cell phones?

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Texting while crossing the street will soon be banned in the city. Beginning on October 24, you could be fined from $15 to $99 if you step into a Honolulu street while looking at your phone. Honolulu is the first major U.S. city to ban what is called "distracted walking". It recently passed a law in a seven to two vote. The law says: "No pedestrian shall cross a street or highway while viewing a mobile electronic device." In other words, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    The law's creators hope it will lower the number of people hit and killed by cars in the city. Mayor Kirk Caldwell told Reuters news agency, "We hold the unfortunate reputation of being a major city with more pedestrians being hit in crosswalks, particularly our seniors, than almost any other city in the country."

    The law includes all electronic devices with screens: cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, digital cameras and laptop computers. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Pedestrians may use such devices in the street to call emergency services and rescue workers, such as firefighters and police officers.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#} The state of Washington was the first to outlaw distracted driving back in 2007. Now, 46 other states as well as D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands, have laws against texting while driving reports the GHSA.

    If you still want to text while walking, you could avoid being fined in Honolulu (and be safer, in general) by using a voice-controlled digital assistant such as Siri or Google Assistant. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
