Dear Mum and Dad,

    We have some exciting news for you. Jenny is going to have a baby!  At first, the doctor said she might have some trouble with the baby. Now he says she is just fine. She is very healthy and happy! She still works on her paintings every day.  She gets tired more quickly now.

 We're moving to New York! We want to be closer to you and Jane. It's much nicer to be near the family. Jenny grew up in Mexico, and she doesn't have a family member here. So that makes you even more important for us.

    Jenny is a little worried about working in New York.  In Italy her paintings are already popular. But I'm sure people will like her in New York.  I'm still working for the New York Times. I'll be writing about the United Nations in New York. We're planning to move next month.

    See you then!

Yours,

Jim

    If you want to learn English well. You have to practice speaking English! Use these sentences to help you start interesting conversations in English.

⑴We should try to do things independently, rather than wait for help. Do you think our schools stop us from thinking independently? How can we become more independent? Can we help our classmates to be more independent? How?{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

⑵I find this to be true with my students. If they only recite without understanding, they cannot use English well. Have you ever tried to recite many English words? What is the result? Do you know anyone that only follows but never thinks? What is that person like? Do you know anyone who is a clear thinker? What is that person like?{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

⑶How can laughter help us in our daily life? Do you think humor is helpful if we are really sick? Do you know anyone who laughs all the time? What is that person like? Do you know someone who never laughs? Do you enjoy being around that person?{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

⑷Do you have many friends or just a few very close friends? How did you meet your best friend? What advice would you give a newcomer to your school to help him or her meet new friends? What would you do to help your best friend?{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

⑸How should we eat to stay healthy? What do you think is the healthiest food we can eat every day? Do you eat very healthy food? Or do you prefer delicious but not so healthy food? What food should we avoid eating? Besides eating well, what should we do for our health?{#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    Service on the 102-km high-speed railway between Shenzhen and Guangzhou started on December 26, 2011. A non-stop trip between the Guangzhou South Station and the Shenzhen North Station takes 35 minutes at full speed.

    The train runs at the highest speed of 300 km per hour. All 36 pairs of trains run every day. A one-way first-class ticket costs 100 yuan. A second-class one costs 75 yuan, 5 yuan cheaper than a second-class ticket on the slower line.

    A high-speed train has 556 seats, including 16 seats in the VIP rooms and 50 in the first-class carriage (车厢). It offers more advanced facilities (先进的设施). For example, the seats are more comfortable, there are toilets for the disabled (残疾人), and there are power outlets (电源插座) in the first-class carriage.

    The high-speed service between Guangzhou and Shenzhen will be a convenient choice for many people. “I won't need to travel to the Guangzhou East Station to take a train to Shenzhen,” said Wang Yi, who lives in Panyu district in Guangzhou.

    Many people still prefer the slower trains, because the terminals (终点站) of the high-speed trains are far away from the centres of both cities. “I would not like to take a high-speed train to Shenzhen. I live in the centre of Guangzhou. First I have to get to the Guangzhou South Station. It is a waste of time for me,” said Zhang Lu.

    The way we spend our time can be. divided into three groups,or jars(罐子).These would be the necessary tasks jar, the voluntary tasks jar and the happiness jar.

    Every day,we spend time filling the necessary tasks jar. We fill this jar with useful things,like making money,doing housework,buying food and paying bills. We then fill another jar with voluntary tasks like taking children to activities and cooking family meals. Those jars are very important,but we may not enjoy them. If we don't fill them each day,our family won't run properly.

    However, we often forget to fill the third jar—the happiness jar. This is the jar that we fill with activities that make us happy. Is your happiness jar sometimes empty at the end of the day? We all have days like that. Between doing all the necessary, and voluntary tasks,time flies by on some days,and before we know it,it is time for bed.

    That is why each day we try to fill our happiness jar. Most days,I fill mine by going to the ballroom dance(社交舞)class. Playing music is another way that I fill my happiness jar. This week,I was happy to take part in an orchestra(管弦乐队)practice at my church(教堂).At the end of the evening, my happiness jar was full.

    Consider how your time is spent. Try to find ways to achieve a balance. At the end of the day,hopefully we've done all we can to make sure that our happiness jar is filled.
