If you've been paying attention, you know that rooks (乌鸦)are very intelligent birds. Now these geniuses have been given a job: six rooks have been trained to pick up rubbish in the Puy du Fou historical theme park in western France.

Whenever these six rooks deposit a cigarette butt or other small pieces of trash in a special container, it gives out a treat rewarding (奖励)rooks for their efforts.

The idea came from one of the park's falconers (放鹰者), Christophe Gaborit. As part of the falconry show, rooks had been trained to pick up roses and bring them to a princess, so in the 2000s, Gaborit raised and trained two rooks to do the same with rubbish.

The rooks started to pick up rubbish for the first time over the weekend, and they'll be working four days a week under close supervision (监视) not for the birds, but to make sure the humans don't deliberately (故意地)drop rubbish to watch the birds clean it up.

The purpose of the rooks is to educate the people, to open their minds to think: OK, the birds are able to do something that we are much more able to do than them, so we should do this by ourselves," park president Nicolas de Villiers told NPR. "It's a funny way to show the people that you cannot throw the papers everywhere."

(1)、What are the rooks like according to the first paragraph?
A、Stupid. B、Clever. C、Kind. D、Cute
(2)、How are the rooks trained to pick up rubbish?
A、By picking up the roses for people・ B、By working for four days a week. C、By cleaning a special container. D、By rewarding their hard work.
(3)、Why do the rooks work under supervision?
A、Because they are not clever enough at first. B、Because people like dropping litter everywhere. C、Because they may be not hard-working at all. D、Because people may have fun with their abilities.
(4)、What's the main purpose of this passage?
A、Let people know that corvids are a clever animal. B、Educate people to learn from the great man, Gobarit. C、Make people know they can do more on rubbish. D、Hope people can sort out the rubbish in any place.

A volunteer experience

It was March 2018. I was finishing high school. While I was looking forward to my college years, I also felt a strong desire to volunteer abroad. After weeks of serious consideration, I decided to have a gap year(间隔年).

I cannot tell you how many hours I spent trying to find the programme I was most interested in. I contacted many volunteer organizations. In the end, I signed up with " African Impact". I wanted to make an impact(影响)-no matter how small-on Africa and its people.

I took part in the Child Care Project. We worked in an orphanage (孤儿院) in Cape Town( 开普敦) and spent time with a group of orphans(孤儿) between the ages of 0 and 3. There was nothing as exciting as seeing a baby taking her first steps, hearing a two-year-old girl repeat all of the letters in the alphabet after I said them, seeing a little boy kick or catch balls of different sizes, and watching all of the kids carefully wash their hands as it became a habit. These were the skills that I watched the children develop during my time there. My heart was filled with pride.

I also took part in the Teaching Project and worked in a preschool. Teaching was more tiring. Some children were naughty. They didn't always listen to me. But it's hard to describe the joy I felt when the kids finally understood what I was trying to teach them.

Volunteering in Cape Town changed my life. It has changed who I am as a person. I cannot be more grateful for this amazing experience.

Timo Boll, a famous table tennis star, decided to retire (退 役) from international matches after the Paris 2024 Olympics. Boll's first Olympics was at Sydney 2000. Paris 2024 Olymics was his seventh Olympics.

"The time has come. Thank you all for a great journey. I was, and I am, part of my favourite sport in a special way. However, my body condition doesn't allow me to enjoy playing games and taking part in daily training for fun," Boll wrote. In a video, he said, "I have said many times in the past. I was really afraid of this day, this decision, but it was clear that this day would finally come."

Then Boll talked about his career(职业) and made the decision to retire after his seventh Olympic Games. He said, "What I care most is not winning or losing games, but enjoying my career all the time."

After Paris, Boll planned to play for a table tennis club until 2025. As an eight-time European champion(冠军), leaving international matches was not easy for Boll. He would try his best for his last dance.
