I first met Steve Jobs years ago at a yard pool party. I was {#blank#}1{#/blank#} excited and embarrassed by the chance to meet him in person that I could hardly whisper my name when we {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(introduce). I watched as he swam in the pool with his son, like a regular guy, a good dad {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(have) fun with his kids.

    The second time I met him was when our children started going to school together. He was sitting in the classroom while {#blank#}4{#/blank#}rest of us were pretending that having Steve Jobs in the room was {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (total) normal. It was one Halloween when I realized he actually knew my name, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} made me a little surprised. {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(dress) like a monster, he was decorating a scary house with his wife. As I walked by with my son, Steve smiled and said, “Hi, Lisen”, My son thought I was the {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(cool)mom in town when he realized Steve Jobs knew me.

    {#blank#}9{#/blank#} then on, when I saw him holding his meetings in our neighborhood, I didn't hesitate to smile and say hi. Steve always {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (return) the greetings, proving that while he may have been a genius, he was also a good neighbor.

    Last summer holiday, I took part in a teaching project and volunteered{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(teach) in a countryside primary school for two weeks.

    When we arrived at the school, though shocked by the poor living conditions, we quickly adapted {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to the life there. My good friend Tom and I were in charge of the third year students, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(consist) of just 18 boys and girls. We not only taught them English and maths, but also organized some after-school {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(activity) for them. Gradually, I found that many of the students were actually quite 6{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(talent). But some had to leave school early, which is{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(large) because their families were under heavy financial pressure, and they had to find a job to support the family.

    As well as giving lessons, we also helped set up a reading room in the school {#blank#}7{#/blank#} students hardly had any access{#blank#}8{#/blank#} good reading materials except textbooks. With the help of school staff and students, we cleaned out an abandoned classroom. When we placed the books students and teachers in my high school {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(donate) onto the shelves, I found the students were more than excited and {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(dive) into reading there.

    Two weeks quickly passed and we had to leave. I did not know how much we had actually taught them, but for me I learned a great deal—cherish what I possess and study harder.

    Hello, everyone! Up to now, we have finished learning the first three units of Book 1. Now let's review what we have learnt together.

    In Unit One, we have learnt about what kind of friends we should make from our friend Anne {#blank#}1{#/blank#}was killed by the German Nazis during World War Ⅱ. It was the first time in her life that she{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(keep)diaries in the hiding place. So she had great difficulty{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(set) down what she and her family had gone through. Though she grew so crazy about everything to do with nature, it was no pleasure looking through the dusty windows any longer.

    In Unit Two, we have known that there is more than one kind of English in the world and in some important ways they are very different{#blank#}4{#/blank#}one another. Believe it or not, there is no such thing as standard English. However, today the number of people learning English in China{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(increase)rapidly, although they find{#blank#}6{#/blank#}hard to learn English well. As high school students, we should make full use of our time{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (have) a good command of English in order to pass the College Entrance Examinations in three years.

    In Unit Three, our friends Wang Kun and Wang Wei made up their {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (mind) to take a great bike trip along the Mekong River. They both bought {#blank#}9{#/blank#} expensive mountain bike. Finally they got the chance after graduating from college. Soon they got their cousins{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(interest) in cycling too. After making preparations, they together started their journey and realized their dream to take a great bike trip.

    When I left for the United States to study, I had butterflies in my stomach. I was nervous because I was going to {#blank#}1{#/blank#}new place with new people and new customs. I couldn't even understand{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(they) language. Everything was{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(difference) from my own country. There was nobody {#blank#}4{#/blank#} I could talk to. I just had my husband, who was a new person for me, too.

    It was a sad moment {#blank#}5{#/blank#} I had to say goodbye to my family and friends. I didn't want {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(leave) my hometown because I grew up there and had wonderful{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (memory) of the place.

    So, {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(think) about all these changes made me nervous and I {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(worry) about my new life. But studying abroad was a {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(decide) that I made myself. I had to continue and accept the challenge. I looked forward to visiting my family in the summer vacation.

    One day a young man was walking along the road {#blank#}1{#/blank#} he heard a cry. It seemed to be coming from underneath a bridge. As he approached the bridge, the sound got {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (loud) and then he saw {#blank#}3{#/blank#} pitiful sight. There, lying in the muddy riverbed was a little dog about two months old, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} front legs were tightly tied with ropes. It had wounds on its head and {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (cover) with mud.

    The young man wanted to help the dog, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} as he approached, the dog started to bark. The young man did not give up. He sat down and started {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (gentle) talking to the dog. It took a long time but eventually the dog {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (stop) barking and the man was able to touch it. The young man carried the dog home, cared for its wounds, and gave it food and water. Even with all of this, the dog was still {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (friend) every time the young man approached. But the young man did not give up. Weeks went by and the man continued attending to the dog. Then one day, as the young man approached, the dog wagged its tail.

    It was consistent love and kindness {#blank#}10{#/blank#} won a lifelong friendship of loyalty.
