     Elizabeth lived with her six children in a small house. One winter, there was a big flood(洪水) ,and quite a few houses were washed away, but Elizabeth's house was high enough to escape it.
     Elizabeth helped one of the families which had lost everything. She shared her home until the family could build a new house. Elizabeth's friends could not understand her since she already had so many children to take care.
      "Well," Elizabeth explained to her friends, at the end of World War II, there was a poor woman in a town in England .Her husband had been killed in the war and she had a lot of children, just like me now .”

      “The day before Christmas, this woman said to her children, “We won't be able to have much for Christmas. I'm going to get just one present for us all .Now I'll go and get it. She came back with a little girl who had no parents .Here's our present, she said to her own children. ”

      “The children were more than excited to get such a present. They welcomed the little girl happily, and she grew up as their sister. I was that Christmas present.”

    There is an old man in a house. In the house there are many mice. The old man has a cat. Every day the cat catches the mice and eats them.

    One day, the old mouse says, "All mice must come to my room this evening. We must find a way to deal with (对付) the cat."

    All the mice come. Many mice speak, but they don't know what to do. At last, a young mouse stands up and says, "We must put a bell (铃) on the cat. When the cat comes near, we can hear the bell and run away. So the cat can't catch us." "Who can put the bell on the cat?" asks the old mouse. But no one answers.

    Today is Sunday. It's warm. It's four o'clock in the afternoon. Jack and Simon are at home. They are twin(双胞胎)brothers. They want to play basketball, so they take their basketball and a bag, and then go to the playground(操场).Jack puts the bag under a big tree and opens it, but he can't find his sports clothes(衣服).There're only Simon's. "Where are my sports clothes？"Jack asks Simon." Oh, I'm sorry," says Simon, "I forget to bring your clothes here."

    Valentine's Day is a very old holiday. It goes back to the times of Ancient Rome (古罗马). One of the characters we often see on Valentine's Day is Cupid. He was the son of Venus, the goddess of love. He shoots people with arrows (箭) of love. When a man and a woman are hit by his arrows, they will fall in love.

Today people celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14. If a man and a woman are in love, they will give each other gifts. The most popular gifts are flowers (especially roses) and chocolates. Couples may also go to a restaurant for a very nice dinner or plan something else romantic.

    In the United States, Valentine's Day is not just for lovers. Children make special Valentine's cards for their classmates. Families and friends may give candy or other small gifts to each other. It can be a fun day.

    Mr. Brown had lived in a village before he became a famous lawyer. He remembered his hard life during studying in the college. And his parents borrowed much money for him. So he worked hard and tried his best to get more money.

    Now he lives in a beautiful house with his family and his son Richard is clever. He likes the boy very much and sent him to the best school in the city. He hopes Richard to live a happy life and buys everything the boy wants. He wishes his son could become a great scientist.

    But he doesn't know Richard hates studying and spends much time in playing. Now he's interested in fishing and sometimes cuts classes. So he failed in the exams. Miss Young, his head teacher, tells him not to do that, but he doesn't listen to her. She became angry after the boy was late again one afternoon.

    "I'll visit your father tomorrow evening, Richard." said Miss Young. "I'll ask him a good way to educate you."

    You'd better not talk with him, madam," said the boy. "Or you'll pay for a fee(费) for his advisory service !"
