河北省唐山市2019届高三英语第二次模拟考试试卷
At the end of a long day, it's all too easy to take a hot shower, brush your teeth, and then jump into bed. As it turns out, going to bed with wet hair isn't as harmless as you probably thought.
The first negative result of sleeping with wet hair is purely cosmetic (美容). lf you try to style your hair in the morning after sleeping on it wet, you're probably going to have trouble styling the resulting curliness (卷曲), funny waves, and flat sides.
When you wake up, you're probably going to have to re-wet it again to properly dry it and regain control.
Sleeping with wet hair does not immediately damage your hair, but it can certainly lead to hair breakage, because hair is weakest when wet.
First, you can swap your cotton pillowcases for silk ones. Silk has a much smoother surface, so you won't experience as much unfortunate breakage.
Next, you can make sure to sleep with your hair down, instead of up in a tight ponytail. In addition, you should replace your tight bands with a soft one that isn't going to roughly pull at night.
Dry oils and texturizing mousses (摩丝) are some of the best ways to ensure you don't wake up looking like a lion while protecting your precious hair from damage.
Now that you know how bad sleeping with wet hair is, make sure you're not making these hairstyle mistakes.
A. Finally, never skip out on applying product.
B. Here are some tips that can help dry any hair faster.
C. This unnecessarily adds time to your morning routine.
D. If you haven't noticed, the ends of your hair tend to dry first.
E. You can't predict how your wet hair is going to look in the morning.
F. But have you ever thought about the risks of sleeping with wet hair?
G. If you must sleep with wet hair, there are a few ways to minimize the damage.
The Science of Risk-Seeking
Sometimes we decide that a little unnecessary danger is worth it because when we weigh the risk and the reward, the risk seems worth taking. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Some of us enjoy activities that would surprise and scare the rest of us. Why? Experts say it may have to do with how our brains work.
The reason why any of us take any risks at all might have to do with early humans. Risk-takers were better at hunting, fighting, or exploring. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} As the quality of risk-taking was passed from one generation to the next, humans ended up with a sense of adventure and a tolerance for risk.
So why aren't we all jumping out of airplanes then? Well, even 200, 000 years ago, too much risk-taking could get one killed. A few daring survived, though, along with a few stay-in-the-cave types. As a result, humans developed a range of character types that still exists today. So maybe you love car racing, or maybe you hate it.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}
No matter where you are on the risk-seeking range, scientists say that your willingness to take risks increases during your teenage years. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} To help you do that, your brain increases your hunger for new experiences. New experiences often mean taking some risks, so your brain raises your tolerance for risk as well.
{#blank#}5{#/blank#} For the risk-seekers, a part of the brain related to pleasure becomes active, while for the rest of us, a part of the brain related to fear becomes active.
As experts continue to study the science of risk-seeking, we'll continue to hit the mountains, the waves or the shallow end of the pool.
A. It all depends on your character B. Those are the risks you should jump to take. C. Being better at those things meant a greater chance of survival. D. Thus, these well-equipped people survived because they were the fittest. E. This is when you start to move away from your family and into the bigger world. F. However, we are not all using the same reference standard to weigh risks and rewards. G. New brain research suggests our brains work differently when we face a nervous situation. |
A. Get more purposeful. B. Worry ruins creativity. C. Do what you should be doing. D. We need to stop letting life just happen. E. Make new plans and then move forward. F. Here are some effective ways to deal with it. G. You do the same things as the people around you do. |
Ways to Worry Less
Do you want to worry less? Of course you do. That's like asking if I can send you free bacon. Worry is like black mold—it appears in damp conditions and spreads uncontrollably. And very often we don't realize it's there until it's killing us. We must get rid of worry before it destroys us. But how should we do it? {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
Do what you need to do.
{#blank#}2{#/blank#} You ought not to avoid tough projects or hard conversations. If you don't do what you should be doing, you will end up spending the rest of the time worrying about the must-do things. Believe it or not, the anxiety that comes from the worry is much worse than the task we're worried about.
{#blank#}3{#/blank#}
I think many of us act like we're puppets (木偶) in a play and we're waiting for something or someone to put us in the right place. We just react to whatever is going on. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} We need to live purposefully. Nothing can cause more worry than purposelessness.
Make plans.
You can't succeed without making plans. Making plans will enable you to achieve your aims more smoothly. However, your plans aren't set in stone. You can adjust your plans flexibly. Accept changes. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
There are other ways to lessen worry. As long as you are determined to take action, you will live a worry-free life.
