阅读理解

It was in August 1999 that I decided to come to China to work as a language teacher.

I taught in Zhongshan City. Guangdong, for six months before moving to Ningbo. I came to Wanli University in 2000, and I taught there for five years. My time in Ningbo is great. I've met many wonderful Chinese teachers.

I came to China with the idea of helping Chinese friends learn English better, and I have achieved this many times. I've traveled to many places in China, and I find that Ningbo is my favorite place.

When I first came to Ningbo in 2000, it wasn't as clean as it is now. However, I found that this is a great city to live in. When I arrived, there was one McDonalds, and three KFC's. But we didn't get a Starbucks until 2002.

I've really enjoyed spending my time here, especially now that I have found my beautiful wife, and we will be having our first child in Ningbo. Maybe she or he will learn Ningbo dialect(方言), to talk with the grandparents.

While staying in Ningbo, I have found that many people can understand English, but are very shy to speak out. I'm telling you now, it is only a language, and don't be afraid to talk, just remember, "Nobody is perfect. "

Actress Jia Ling became very popular on social media for two days in a row during the Chinese Lunar New Year. People were amazed by how she lost 50 kilograms while making her movie Yolo. This made everyone talk about living a healthy lifestyle. Many people on Weibo were discussing Jia's weight loss journey,like"Jia's story of losing weight"and "Jia Ling totally surprised me. "They were wondering if it's time to start developing healthier habits,especially during the Spring Festival.

One moviegoer named Li Qiaoya, who goes to the gym to lose weight, said guilty(内疚)

Jia used to be known for her funny laughter and emotional performances. She shared her new look after losing weight on social media,and her fans were shocked by her new jawline(下颌线) and how radiant(容光焕发的),but it's a heartwarming story about"learning to love yourself".

However,not everyone agrees with Jia's weight loss plan. To finish filming the movie,Jia had to gain 20 kilograms before starting to lose weight in just six months. "Not everyone can handle the challenge of losing 50 kilograms in only six months,but also a mental one. "

In interviews before the movie was released,Jia emphasized the importance of setting realistic(切实可行的) goals when talking about her weight loss journey. Jiang agreed and said that having achievable goals is important for a healthy lifestyle. It's never a bad thing to have a movie reminding many people about the importance of staying fit,reachable goals. It's good to have a schedule and stick to it,rather than blindly trying extreme(极端的)

Ashley was honest, fashionable, and the"Queen Bee" in my school.

I looked up to her and idolised(崇拜) her. I listened to the music she listened to, and wore the clothes she wore. I even took art class though I had really wanted to take theatre. I finally fitted in 1 group.

One day, I got out of my last class a few minutes early to 2 seats for our group at the dining hall. Paying all attention to my homework, I didn't notice they had sat down behind me. Before I could say a word, I3 realised what they were    3

I listened silently. "She's such a loser, " one girl said.

Another girl added, "Ashley, she 4 follows you, trying to copy you. "

"I wish she would leave us alone. We were in the same summer school and now she thinks we're best friends. " The once familiar voice sounded so5 and strange.

I was mortified (感到羞辱的). My hands were shaking. I couldn't help crying 6 . I felt heartbroken for the very first time. How did this happen? I 7 we were friends.

I ran home. My mother just held me while I cried for hours. The advice she gave me was so 8 , and I had heard it a million times, "Just be yourself and people will like you for 9 you are. " This time I could understand it better. Then and there I 10 to find myself back. That was exactly what I did.

Over the next month, I went through a lot of 11 . I bought new clothes that I wanted to wear. I no longer went to art class 12 them, and took theatre. I began making new friends. I developed my own 13 and never again followed the crowd.

I had an amazing school year. 14 I look back, I think it was the year when I discovered the person I was going to be. It was a 15 they had given me, though I was deeply pained that day.
