Almost every Chinese person can recite(背诵) the two lines of the famous poem, "Every grain on the plate comes from hard work." But sadly, many of us don't get the real meaning of these lines: Don't waste food.

A CCTV program reported that the food Chinese people throw away every year is enough to feed 200 million(百万)people for a year. Do we have too much food? Of course not. There were 925 million hungry people around the world in 2011. Six million children die of hunger every year.

Chinese people are well-known for being friendly. Many even feel that they lose face if their guests have eaten up all the food on the table. Luckily, a number of people have known the importance of saving food. What should we do in our daily life to waste less food?

⑴Don't order too much in a restaurant. Only order as much as you want to eat. If you cannot eat all the food you ordered, take the rest of it home.

Traditional Chinese Medicine,also called "TCM",is an ancient system of traditional medicine.It has developed for thousands of years and is an important part of Chinese culture.Today people in 183 countries and areas are now using TCM.Massage(按摩),Guasha,Qigong,tai chi and acupuncture (针灸) are some common kinds of treatment of TCM.Chinese massage can make you relaxed and fresh.In acupuncture,doctors put long needles(针) into the patients' heads,faces,arms...It takes away pain,though the look is funny.

The earliest medical classic is in China.Huangdi's Classic on Medicine(黄带内经) came out more than 2,000 years ago.The book is about the relationship between man and nature.In Chinese culture,yin and yang are the two parts of nature.Nature .keeps balanced if yin and yang work well together.According to TCM,imbalances(不平衡) in the human body can lead to health problems,many TCM treatments focus on restoring this balance.

To many people's surprise,for some health problems,a doctor of TCM will not give you medicine.Instead,he may give you just a food plan and right ways to eat.For example,TCM thinks it's wrong to eat on the way to school,at our desk,or in front of the TV.But here are correct ways:Sit down to eat.While eating,turn off the TV and get away from the work desk.Eat seasonal foods.Do not miss any of the three meals.

A Kind Grandmother

Mrs. Wallace had two grandchildren. They lived near her house. They visited her house every day after school.

She was very good at making things. One day she made some beautiful

dolls and gave them to her grandchildren to play with.

The grandchildren wanted some pet rabbits, and Mrs. Wallace said she

could make a hutch to keep them in. The children went to ask their parents.

"Can we please have some pet rabbits?" they asked.

"Where will you keep them?" their father asked. "You need a hutch for them."

"Grandma will make a hutch for them," the children said.

The father and mother talked about it. They told the children they could have two rabbits. But they must put them in the hutch.

Mrs. Wallace went to a shop and bought wood, paint and nails (钉子). She worked all daywhen the children were at school. After school they came to watch and help.

The next day Mrs. Wallace finished (完成) the hutch and painted it. Then she thought about how to get it to the children. It was too big to put into her car.

"I know," she thought. "I'll put it on the wheelbarrow(手推车) and wheel it there. It's not far."

On the way to the children's house, aman saw her and said. "That's very nice. Did you make it yourself?"

"Yes," she said happily." I made it for my grandchildren." "Really?" he said. "I thought it was for rabbits!

When Tim Carter finished high school, he started to deliver(送) pizzas. But soon he found that he didn't want to do it for the rest of his life. He thought about he saw his uncle welding(焊接) the parts of his car and was really interested in it. So he took a night class at a local school to see if welding was a job that he was going to stick to(坚持).

After studying for some time, he found it was. Tim learned more about welding there and then he wanted to learn everything about it. He decided to make welding his career(职业). But one night class wouldn't be enough. Tim went to a welding school for real practice. He was quite sure he would stick to the job.

Spain is famous for its tomato festival, called La Tomatina. It happens in the town of Bunol in the Valencia region in Spain on the last Wednesday of August every year. During the festival there are all kinds of activities, but the most exciting part is the tomato fight. It takes place(发生) at the end of long celebration. You're encouraged to throw tomatoes in the fight. There're many stories about how the festival began. One of the stories goes that during the 1940s, some friends started a tomato fight, while another story is about a local band. Anyway, everyone in Bunol seems to have a different story.

Before the tomato fight, there are parades(游行), musical bands, street parties and so on. On the day of the fight, shopkeepers cover their windows and doors in order to keep away from the tomato fight. At the same time, thousands of tourists and local people come to the town square together. Then large trucks(卡车) full of tomatoes arrive. From the back of the large trucks, a great town band start to throw tomatoes at others. Then the crowds fight back. throwing the tomatoes at anything and anyone. Soon the streets are in the sea of red tomato juice.

Everyone is supposed to obey a small number of rules. You must squash(压烂) the tomato before throwing it and you are allowed to throw nothing but tomatoes.

It is usually over in less than half an hour. Everyone then sets off to the river to clean up. Sounds like fun!
