Sometimes I really doubt whether there is love between my parents. Every day they are verybusy trying to make money for my schooling. One day, my mother was sewing a quilt (缝被子). I silently sat beside her.

    " Mum, is there 1 between you and dad?" I asked in a very low voice.

    With surprise in her eyes, she2her work for a while. Then she said, "Susan, look at this thread (线). It can hardly be seen, 3it's really there. It makes the quilt strong. If life is a quilt, love should be a thread. Love is inside. "

    I couldn't understand her4 the next spring. At that time, my father suddenly got sick seriously. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month.

    After they were back, my mother helped my father walk5on the country road every day. They were so kind to each other and it seemed they were the happiest couple.

    After two months my father6couldn't walk by himself.

" Dad, how are you feeling now?" I asked him one day. "Susan, don't7me, " he said, "I just like walking with your mum. I like this kind of life. "8his eyes, I knew he loves my mother deeply.

     Now I understand that love is just a thread in the quilt of our 9. Love is inside , making life10and warm.

    It was Molly's job to hand her father his paper lunch bag each morning before he left home to work.

    One morning, besides his 1 lunch bag. Molly handed him a second paper bag, which looked a bit old.

    "Why two bags?" her father asked. "The other is something else," Molly answered. "What's in it?" "Just something. Take it with you."

    He put2 paper bags into his briefcase (公文包), kissed Molly and rushed off. At noon he opened Molly's bag and took out all the things: a small Teddy bear, 2 tiny sea shells (贝壳), 5 small stones, and 12 coins…The 3 father smiled, finished eating, and swept the desk clean into the wastebasket, Molly's things in the bag included, and then put himself into the afternoon work.

    That evening, Molly ran up to him 4 he was reading the newspaper.

    "Where's my bag?" "What's bag?" "The one I gave you this morning."

"I 5 it at the office. Why?" "I forgot to put this 6 in it," she said. "And, besides, Daddy, the things in the bag are the things I really like—I thought you might like to 7 with them. You didn't lose the bag, did you, Daddy?"

    "Oh, no. I just forgot to bring it home." he 8.

    While Molly hugged (拥抱) her father's neck, he opened the note that read: "I love you, Daddy." Molly had given him her 9 —all that a 7-year-old held.

    Love in a paper bag, and he 10 it. He had even thrown it in the wastebasket. So back he went hurriedly to the 11. Just before the night cleaner, he found all the things back and carried the bag home 12 .

    After dinner, he asked Molly to tell him about the things in the bag. It 13 a long time to tell. 14 had a story or a memory.

    The life journey with the people we love is all that really matters. It is such a simple 15  but it is so easily forgotten.

Three years ago, a story happened in Japan. At that time Mike and Ben were taking a holiday on the beach. The two good friends had a fight. Mike hit Ben on the face. Ben was hurt but he said nothing. He only wrote in the sand, "Today my best friend hit me on the face."

After that, they took a taxi back to their hotel. After dinner, Ben started to read in bed. Mike went for a walk in the park near the hotel. Suddenly, an earthquake happened. The small hotel fell down and Ben was under the hotel. Mike saved him. After Ben was out of danger, he wrote on a stone, "Today my best friend saved my life."

Mike asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now you write on a stone. Why?" Ben answered, "When someone hurts us, we should write it down in the sand, and then the wind can blow it away. When someone helps us, we must carve (雕刻) it in the stone, then the wind can't blow it away."

I was doing the work in the garden yesterday. It was a soft evening and I was   making the most of it when I heard a neighbor's voice coming from the path out of our garden. 

I found there was a man lying on his back on the path with his eyes closed. I   recognized him. I had seen him doing the drunkard's(酒鬼) walk along that path several times. 

I stopped to walk out. " Do you need some help?"I asked. 

He opened his eyes and said, " Probably. " Then he told me because of arthritis(关节炎) he couldn't walk well at the most of times. I thought I should do it when he asked to help him go home where he lived a few hundred metres away. 

I tried to let him walk under his own strength with me guiding him but that   was getting us nowhere. It was easier to carry him, but that would be a real insult(侮辱) to him. So, I held his left hand with my left hand and grabbed his belt with my right hand. Then we started walking slowly. 

On the way he told me his name, what he had worked as, what holidays he had been, how wonderful his granddaughter was, what his wife's name was, and what a hard time she would give him when he got home!

Thank goodness! His wife wasn't in when we walked forty- five minutes back to his home. 

If we wait until we feel good about helping before we help, then people will go unhelped and we will become the ones who end up walking on by.
