I'd like to tell you a story about my best friend Jane. Last week in school we had a big fight, and she didn't{#blank#}1{#/blank#} me. It all started when she asked me if she could copy my homework. I asked her why she wanted to do that, and she said that she had forgotten to do hers. I said I didn't think it was a good idea. I said it would start a bad{#blank#}2{#/blank#} and she should do her own work. She got really{#blank#}3{#/blank#} at me and said she didn't want to be my best friend anymore. I said that was OK and that I was sure she would {#blank#}4{#/blank#} it. And she did. Yesterday she told me she was {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. She said it was much better if she did her own work.

    we can't stop an earthquake(地震), but we can do things to make sure they don't destroy(毁坏) whole cities. first, it is not a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} idea to build houses along lines where the {#blank#}2{#/blank#} of the earth's plates(板块) join together. Second, if you think there {#blank#}3{#/blank#} be an earthquake, it is better to build houses on rocks , not on {#blank#}4{#/blank#} . Third, you must make the houses as {#blank#}5{#/blank#} as possible. Weak buildings will fall down in an earthquake, but strong ones may {#blank#}6{#/blank#} Scientists are {#blank#}7{#/blank#} that one day an even bigger earthquake will hit the part around San Francisco(旧金山) . They call it " the big one ". However, people today are still building more {#blank#}8{#/blank#} .The population in and around San Francisco is now ten {#blank#}9{#/blank#} more than it was in 1906.This means that {#blank#}10{#/blank#} there is another earthquake, a great many houses and buildings will be destroyed.

    One of my best friends, Bob, has a very large police dog named Jack. Every Sunday afternoon, Bob and Jack have a walk in the park nearby. Jack likes these walks very much.

    One Sunday afternoon, I paid a visit to my friend. I stayed there fora{#blank#}1{#/blank#} time and my friend and I had a longer talk with each other than ever before. Soon it was time for them to take a walk in the park. We {#blank#}2{#/blank#} that, so Jack became worried about it. He walked around the room several times and then sat down in front of me and looked at me.

    But I still paid {#blank#}3{#/blank#} attention(注意) to him. I went on talking with my friend. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Jack could not wait any longer. He went out of the room and came back a few minutes later. He sat down in front of me again. But this time, he held my hat in his {#blank#}5{#/blank#} . Soon I understood what Jack meant and so did my friend.
