Just 28 years ago, Berlin was a city divided into two by the Berlin Wall. How excitedpeople were as the Berlin Wall came down. Since then, Berlin has become one of the coolest cities in Europe. Here are the main reasons why I think Berlin is cool.

    First, Berlin has cheap hotels and everyday objects (物品). You needn't worry aboutspending too much money when visiting Berlin.

    Second, Berlin knows how to give parties, and there is a festival here every month ofthe year. Perhaps the most famous is the Berlin International Film Festival (the BIFF).

Third, Berlin has beautiful buildings of its own. The Brandenburg Gate is one of thecity's most famous buildings. It's the symbol (象征) of more than 200 years of history. The TV Tower is as good as the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the London Eye.

Lastly, Berlin is a city of living art. Artists can create works of art on the sides ofbuildings.

    At midnight at New Year's Eve people in Rome and Italy throw (扔) all the things they no longer want .The streets are filled with old chairs, beds, clothes and dishes…… In Madrid, Spain, new year comes in more quietly (安静地). People go to the main square, each holding a bag of grapes. As the clock strikes (敲) twelve ,the people eat grapes .

    In Tokyo people eat noodles at New Year's Eve. This food is said to bring long life. Early the next morning, some Japanese families climb Mount Fuji. There they watch the first sunrise (日出) of the new year.

    In China, New Year's food include (包括) a whole fish and a chicken. The chicken must be presented (呈现) with a head ,a tail and two feet to symbolize (象征) completeness (完美).

    Lao Men Dong (also known as East Zhonghua Gate Historical Culture Block) is a well-known place of interest in Qinhuai District, Nanjing. It is not big, but has attracted visitors of the whole city and the whole country as well.

    To the south of Confucius Temple, the block is not far from Qinhuai River. Over twenty years ago, it was only a small block full of old houses and dirty, narrow roads. There were not many shops or public services. Most of the people living there were either too old or too poor to move. Things have changed since 2010s. Because of the regulatory plan, the residence (原居民) have moved to other newly-built communities. The government has also built many clean and neat roads. A couple of old-fashioned houses have also been renewed. Both local and foreign businesses have settled down here, such as Librairie Avant-grade (先锋书店) and Starbucks. You can also try some other local snacks and pay a visit to the art museums.

    Lao Men Dong is developing so fast that it has become an outstanding landmark of Nanjing's culture.

    As we know, there are differences between Western culture and Chinese culture. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Let's look at some words about animals and plants. Most expressions in Chinese about the dog, for example, "a homeless dog", "a mad dog", "a running dog" and "a dog catching a mouse", have bad meanings. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.
