A boy thought that he was the most unhappy person in the world. He thought he was 1 because almost everything bad always happened to him. So he wanted to 2 the secret (秘密) to happiness. He walked a long way and finally came to a beautiful 3. There he met the king（国王）.

     After learning why the boy had come, the king advised that he should  4 the palace and come back in two hours. "At the same time, I want you to hold (拿住) this spoon with milk," said the king. "As you walk around my palace, carry(携带) this spoon 5spilling(溢出) the milk."

    I once had a hard time making a living in France. Three years ago, I moved to a new neighborhood and felt an intense(强烈的) need to meet people so I went to the cinema. Outside the cinema was a woman with long gray hair who had a strong smell and was asking for money. I reached for my wallet to give her a Euro and then something made me stop and enter into conversation with her. I said, “Look, all the women going to the cinema here on a Tuesday night are seeing a film that can change your life. I'd rather buy you a ticket than give you money.”

    She hesitated（犹豫） for a moment and then came in with me. She hid behind me because, she said, the people running the theater didn't like her. I got her a ticket and she sat next to me. There were about 80 women there; I noticed some of them were turning around and looking at me with expressions of surprise and curiosity(好奇心).

    I encouraged the woman I had bought the ticket for to come the following night to an event where there would be many representatives(代表) of various social services. I thought they could be of some help to her. She did come and I was able to direct her to an agency that helped women in her situation. At the same time, a woman came toward me and said, “Are you the person who bought a ticket for the woman outside the theater asking for handouts?” When I said yes she said, “I want you to come to the community center where I work. I want the other employees there to meet you.”

    This was the beginning of a deep friendship and colleague relationship. I now have a great job and have more work than I've ever had in my 20 years in France. And the woman I took to the cinema that night? I learned that she was not homeless and that she was a secretary.

    Mr. Brown works on a farm. Mr. Green works in a park. But they don't know each other. Today is Sunday. Mr. Brown comes to the park. He feels tired. He wants to have a little rest. He sees a red chair under a tree over there. So he walks to the chair. Mr. Green is behind him. Mr. Green runs to the chair with a board when he sees Mr. Brown come to the chair. But Mr. Brown runs faster（更快） than Mr. Green. Then he sits on the chair. Mr. Brown is very happy. But Mr. Green doesn't say anything. He gives the board（板子） in his hand to Mr. Brown. It says, "Wet Paint(油漆未干). "

    Joe Read studied in this school for four years. When he finished school, he was already eighteen years old. And then his father said to him, “You finished school, and you are a good student. Now you may go to town and get a good job. They need some clever people to work in the office. The people there can get a lot of money now. If you stay at home, you can't get money from our family.” A few weeks later, Joe went to the office and asked for a job there. A man took him into a small room and gave him some questions on a piece of paper. Joe answered the questions quickly, and he gave the paper to the man.     This is the story of a little fir(冷杉) tree that dreamed of growing up so that he could be a Christmas tree for humans. The other older trees knew more about life and they told him that being a Christmas tree for humans wasn't as good as he thought. But the little fir tree didn't believe them.

    He was so pleased that day when some children came in with their parents to pick a fir tree as their Christmas tree to decorate the living room. The children adored him at first sight. So he was dug up and brought into the living room. After they finished decorating him, the little fir tree shone with a hundred lights. Christmas was getting closer and everyone admired (欣赏) the little Christmas tree.

    He was the prince of the living room, but he started to lose his leaves after January. Nobody looked at him or touched him. The fir tree started to feel sad that he had been chosen by the family. After several days, the little fir tree was replanted in the family's backyard. He was so happy to be back in the good old earth! In the following years, the family dug him up again to put him back into the living room as their Christmas tree and then replanted him. He was very happy with his new family. And yes, in the end the older trees were wrong. Some humans are good after all.
