     I have a best friend. His name is James. He is from the USA. We look totally different! I have blonde hair but he has red hair. I wear glasses but he doesn't. I am short but he is very tall. I'm very outgoing but he is very quiet. However, we both love singing and dancing.

     I don't really have a best friend but one of my good friends is Kristi. She is from America. I sometimes call her Kwiti. She is funny and kind. And she really cares about (关心) everyone and almost everything. She became one of my good friends at the age of five.

     My best friend's name is Edna. She comes from Australia. She likes to talk a lot and hardly keeps quiet. Edna has curly brown hair and brown eyes. She always makes me laugh. Also, she sometimes helps me with my homework.

     I have a best friend from India. Her name is Sinsha. I call her Kuttu. She is short. She has a round face and black eyes. She has long black hair. I can hardly get sad or angry when I'm with her. She often makes me happy.

    Some girls are talking about their dreams. They want to do different (不同的) jobs when they grow up (长大). The first girl says, "When I grow up, I want to work with animals. I like them and they are so cute." The second girl says, "Oh, Mary, I think it's boring to be with animals, because they can't speak. I want to be a reporter (记者), so I can meet and talk to interesting people every day. "The third girl says, "Jenny, I don't think it's a difficult job for you, because you are good at talking with others. I want to be a teacher, because my mom is one" The last girl says, "I like your mother's job, Sally. I am writing a story about that job. My mother says I can be an author (作家). But I want to be a doctor, because I like helping others."

    The story took place in a small town in winter. One day a man met an old lady standing by an expensive car. It was clear that her car broke down. So he stopped his old truck and got out. Although he was smiling, the old lady was worried. “Is he going to hurt me?”

    The man could see that she was frightened, so in his friendliest voice he said, “I'm here to help you, madam. ①Why don't you wait in the car to get warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.” It took Bryan about forty minutes to repair the car. The lady felt quite thankful and she asked how much she should pay him.

    But Bryan wanted no money. ②对他来说，帮助别人很正常。He said, “If you want to repay me, next time you see someone in need, just give out your friendly hand.”

    After saying goodbye, the lady continued down the road till she reached a small café. She stopped for something to eat. As the pretty waitress stood next to her, the lady noticed she was nearly eight months pregnant (怀孕). Although she looked tired, she still served the customers with a smile on her face. As the old lady was going to pay the $10 bill, she remembered Bryan's words.

    The old lady paid one hundred-dollar bill. But when the waitress returned with the change, the lady was gone. On the table she saw a small note. ③Her eyes were filled with tears when she read it, “Somebody once helped me the way I'm helping you. If you want to pay me back, continue being kind to others. ” Under the note were nine more $100 bills.

    Was the old lady an angel? The waitress was so excited that she called her husband to tell the story. “Bryan…Bryan Anderson my dear… you're not going to believe what has happened… ”

    Love needs to be passed on. Everyone can be an angel.

    Tom lived by himself a long way from town. He hardly went to town, but one day he went into town to buy a few things. After he bought them, he went into a restaurant and sat down at a table. When he looked around, he saw some old people put glasses on before reading their newspapers. So after lunch he decided to go to a shop to buy himself one pair, too. He walked along the road, and soon found a shop.

    The man in the shop let him try on a lot of glasses, but Tom always said, "No, I can't read with these."

    The man became puzzled (迷惑的) , and he said, "Excuse me, but can you read?"

    "No, of course I can't!" Tom said angrily. "If I could read before, do you think I would come here to buy your glasses?"

    I was feeling a little blue because my mother had lost her job.

    One day, while I was1on the street, I heard the piano music and singing rising above the noise of the people. I walked more slowly to2where it was coming from. Then I saw a young lady sitting at a piano.

    She was singing songs about love,3 yourself and keeping on trying. The way she was singing made me a little comfortable. I stood there 4, watching her playing on such a crowded New York square. I thought that she must be 5enough to perform in front of so many people. She noticed me. I walked over and told her how good her6sounded. "Thank you," she said.

    "I have been going through a hard time recently, 7 you've made me hopeful again." I said to her.

    "I'm glad that I could help," she replied. "Why are you so 8?"

    "Well, my mum has lost her job, and I'm not sure what to do…"

    "Did you noticed the9you were walking? Your head was down," she said. "Don't be upset, because 10 comes in different ways and if your head is down, you might not see it. You should11more…lift your head up."

    I looked12her, amazed at how she was encouraging(鼓励) me. "13are you playing the piano here?" I asked her with a smile. She14that she saw a lot of unhappy people in the world and she tried to cheer15 up by playing music.

    I smiled a little wilder, realizing that no difficulties could stop me from going on.

    Mr Scott talked about colours all the time. "What a honey—yellow morning it is!" he said to his wife. His wife planted fruit and vegetables in their garden, but Mr Scott was more interested in the leafy plants, the bushes, and even the grass that grew in the garden. "So many kinds of green," he said to her after watering all the plants. "I counted at least twenty shades of green!"

    "Well done, dear," Mrs Scott said. " Now would you please count twenty dollars and go to the supermarket for some ingredients(配料)? I want to make lunch! "

    With a smile on his face, Mr Scott left at once. He enjoyed trips to the supermarket because of all the colourful cans and boxes in it. Fruit and vegetables, too, shone in their bright skins. There was never just one colour: carrots were orange, but also had bits of yellow and brown in them. Bananas were yellow and black; apples hid oranges and purples inside their reds. Mr Scott would walk through the supermarket and enjoy all the colours around him.

    "I wish there was a store full of colours that I could spend all my time in," he sighed.

    He bought everything on his wife's list and came home. When he walked into the house, Mrs Scott noticed the sad look on his face. "What's wrong?" she asked him. "It looks life you had fun at the store. I can see that you picked out the best things."

    "I did have fun in the store. So much that I wish I could have spent more time there. It's so full of colours!" Mr Scott said.

"I see," Mrs Scott said. "Well, cheer up, because I'm going to cook a nice lunch for us!"

    The next day Mr Scott was on his usual morning walk through the neighbourhood, saying hello to everyone, enjoying the colours of the trees and flowers. It was another day of colours!

    "Good morning, Mr Brown," he called out to one of his neighbours. He liked Mr Brown very much, because, well, you guessed it: his name was a colour!

    "Mr Scott! Just the person I wanted to see!" Mr Brown replied. "My wife and I are moving out of this town, and I need someone to take over my shop. You are the perfect person for the job because it's a paint shop! I need someone who knows its colours. Would you be interested?"

    Mr Scott was mad with excitement. "I will take it over right away!"

    Mr Brown was relieved when he left town, because he knew his paint shop was in good hands. Sure enough, Mr Scott kept the paint shop open for twenty more years and got to talk about colours all day, every day.
