    The story is about Carl Fredrickson, a 78-year-old man who sets out to realize his lifelong dream of seeing the wilds of South America. He ties thousands of balloons to float his house and to travel to Paradise Falls with an unwelcome companion Russel, who is an eight-year-old explorer.

    Despicable Me

    Gru wants to become the greatest thief by stealing the moon right out of the sky but he meets a challenge. The three girls he had adopted (收养) change his life in a way nobody would consider possible. The world's greatest villain (坏人) ends up being from being super-bad to a super-dad.

    The Speaker was the title of an eight-part television series. It was produced by the BBC in the UK. The aim of the series was to find Britain's best young speaker.

    Young people between the ages of 14 and 18 from across the country were invited to take part in The Speaker. Applicants included tough-talking teens, jokers, and shy, sensitive types. The one thing they had in common was a desire(渴望) to talk publicly and enthusiastically about what was important to them.

    Each applicant was asked to prepare and film a one-minute speech on any subject-from pop music to politics, from hooligans(小流氓) to homework. From all the entries received, 160 speakers were chosen by three judges. These speakers were invited to the next stage of regional auditions(海选), where they had to deliver their one-minute speech again, but this time in front of the judging panel(评审团) and an audience. Of the 160 speakers, only 20 were selected by the judges to go through to the next stage. They then had to give another speech on a subject they were given only seconds before making the speech. Some competitors also had to speak about a picture, again without any preparation.

    The final eight were then coached by celebrity mentors(指导老师) and given new challenges to help improve their speaking skills. Their speeches were judged by the judges and their mentor. By the last part in the series, which was shown at the end of April 2009, only three competitors remained. They were taken on a research trip to Malawi, where they found out first hand the effects of children's rights, ahead of their final speech. Duncan Harrison, a 14-year-old schoolboy from Bristol was chosen as the winner by the judges and mentors.

    When asked what makes a good speaker, the actor, director and teacher, Jeremy Stockwell, who was one of the judges on the series, said, “An effective speaker must know and trust who they are, what they have to say, and why they have to say u. Whether you're playing Hamlet, delivering a political message or presenting a school meeting, you must have a story to tell, a message to pass on and a clear sense of purpose.”

    A new study from brain researchers helps explain how the human brain evolved or changed over time, to permit people to speak and write.

    Michael Ullman, the lead researcher, a professor at Georgetown University Medical School in Washington, D.C, has been studying language learning for more than 20 years.

    Ullman says his research shows that the human brain does not have a special area or system for making language. Over time we have simply reused or co-opted (指派) parts of our brain for language. And those parts, he says, are ancient-older even than humans themselves.

    "This study examines the theoretical framework (准则) that language is learned, stored and' processed in two ancient learning and memory systems in the brain."

    Ullman, Hamrick and the rest of the team looked at data from 16 other studies on language. They found that people learn language using two memory systems: declarative and procedural. Memorizing vocabulary, for example, is a declarative memory process. But learning grammar is, mostly, a procedural memory process.

    "Declarative memory, in humans at least, is what we think of as learning memory', such as, 'Oh, remember what you said last night' or things like that. And procedural motor memory is what we often call motor memory' such as how you learn to ride a bicycle." Or, Ullman adds, "These procedural memory skills become so deeply leaned that we are no longer aware that we are doing them."

    However, Ullman explains that the two long-term memory systems can share tasks. And, he adds, the adult brain uses the systems to learn language a bit differently than a child's brain.

    "Adult language learners of a second language may use their declarative memory for using grammar patterns. They think about it purposefully. For a child, the grammar may come more naturally. They don't have to think about the grammar rules before speaking."

    In addition to language learners, Ullman's study could help people who have a brain injury that affects speaking and writing. This knowledge can also help those who have learning disabilities such as dyslexia (阅读障碍). People with dyslexia have difficulty recognizing words and symbols accurately.

    Becca was 6 when she was told she had cancer on Sept. 8, 2014. She clearly remembers the bad days of her 26 months of non­stop treatment. Luckily, Becca celebrated her final treatment on Nov. 13, 2016, and she has been cancer­free ever since. But she was thinking about what her life was like while experiencing treatment.

    I was never able to do much, and that's what the kids lying in their hospital beds right now experience, asking their mom and dad, "When are we leaving? When can I play with my friends?" So I decided I have to help them.

    In February, 2017 Becca came up with the idea for Knots and Arrows, a company that makes bracelets (手镯) out of swimsuit materials (泳衣布料). Part of the money made from each bracelet goes to the organizations that help people with cancer.

    Becca created the company with her father, Gerhard Salmins. Gerhard Salmins once had cancer and already recovered from it. "I would be in the hospital sitting there crying and then my dad would come in and he would play games with me," she said. "It made me forget about what I was going through." Becca said the name of the organization shows the motto (座右铭) she stuck to through her personal cancer journey.

    Her organization has already given thousands of dollars to research organizations and families in need. Becca said she hopes her bracelets will make people remember that great things can result from small changes. "No matter what age you are, what you look like, how you act, you can make a difference!" she said.
