Have faith(信心)in others

I was in fifth grade. One day, my dad's car was broken into and all of the things inside were stolen, including my backpack. It had my binder(活页夹),my textbooks and my notebooks, where I used to write stories. I was really sad. I had to go to school with nothing the next day. My teacher, Miss Taylor, was very kind to me. She gave me a new binder after I told her what had happened. She also handed me some crayons(蜡笔)and asked me if I'd like to color the front of the binder. I really appreciated(感激)her kindness. But I never did color the new binder, because something even better happened later that same day. Miss Taylor got a call from the office, after she hung up the phone, she said this exactly, "Zoe, a miracle has happened! Someone found your backpack! "I rushed to the office and got my backpack. When I opened it, I saw that all my things were still inside, including my notebooks. The office girl said it had been brought to the school by a couple. They found my backpack on the side of the road and brought it to the school's office because they found the address in my binder. It tums out that there are lots of people out there who are kind. There is no need to lose faith in society just because of one bad apple.

In life, do you choose to take the road everyone has taken, or do you choose the path that is best for you? It might be 1 to choose what everyone has done, especially if it seemed to be the right fit for them. But is that what truly 2 for you?

Recently, on a hiking trip, my partner and I decided to take a popular trail (特定路线) in the 3 direction. This was an old, well-traveled trail that people had been hiking and biking from A to Z for years. For our own 4 , we chose to travel from Z to A. Going backwards made more5 with my plan. The trip would take several days and going backwards made it 6 that I would end the trip closer to the airport for my flight home.

As my partner and I walked, everyone crossing our path had something to say, "You're going the wrong way. Are you 7 ? Are you returning because you forgot something? Are you crazy? The path crossed a highway somewhere. When it did, even passing cars beeped (发出嘟嘟声) to8 us of the "right" direction.

Why did people only see one way? Because that's what everyone does? Because that's how it's always been done? We even 9 to talk to a Danish woman who said, "We have a saying in my country: When you go backwards to everyone else, it's because you're avoiding something. "I couldn't 10 it. We were just enjoying connecting with nature, hiking the way that best 11 us. Had we gone the "wrong way"? No. At least, not for us.

I decided to 12 the path I chose. In the end, we had a (n) 13 experience. Choosing the "wrong" path was 14 for me. When the 15 in your heart tells you something is right (or wrong) , listen to it. It's speaking to you for a reason and it knows, better than anyone, what's best for you.

阅读下面短文, 掌握其大意, 然后从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

One evening, Brian told Mom that the boys at school had been laughing at him, because they knew he had to do the dishes every night at home. "I didn' t like it. Today 1 called me Cinderella," he said seriously. Mom could tell that Brian was 2 about what had happened. After dinner, Brian went straight upstairs, without stopping to 3 as usual. "I' ve got a lot of homework to do," he said. Mom was surprised but said nothing.

When Brian got home from school the next day, he said 4 , "I' ve solved it, Mom." He had told the boys at school that he wouldn't do the dishes anymore, as he wasn't a 5 , "I'm not Cinderella," he said.

The next morning, Brian came downstairs, ate his breakfast, 6 his lunchbox and set off to school as usual. But at noon he rushed into the 7 again. "Mom, there was nothing in my 8 !" he said. "How strange," Mom said. Brian 9 made himself two sandwiches and ran to school.

That evening, before going to bed, Brian asked, "Mom, do you have a 10 pair of trousers for me? My laundry(洗衣) basket is full." Mom answered that she had been busy that day. The next evening 11 dinner, when Brian headed upstairs later to start his homework as usual, he came straight back down again. "Mom, my laundry basket is still full. Can you tell me 12 you will put a wash on?" he said. "Maybe tomorrow," Mom answered.

All week long, 13 Brian kept asking his mom for things, Mom kept giving him almost the same answers. Until this afternoon after school, Brian got home and 14 his mom alone preparing dinner for the family, he suddenly got the 15 . Mom had been trying to tell him: he might not want to be Cinderella, but neither did his mom. After dinner, Brian did the dishes again himself.
